It has always insisted on the development philosophy of “building a first-class hydropower station to stimulate the local economy, improve the local environment, and benefit the resettled residents” to coordinate the relationship of hydropower development and residents resettlement, environment, and local economic development for the overall sustainable development of hydropower industry. CTG has shouldered the historical mission of “Construct Three Gorges Project, Develop Yangtze River” for twenty years of ups and downs. It has always insisted its goal on green, cyclic, and low-carbon development, and steadily promotes the ecological conservation, pollution prevention and control, energy-saving and emission-reduction in the project-affected areas. Long-term ecological monitoring, protection and scientific research have been conducted on the impacts of hydropower projects. By taking a variety of measures, the conservation results of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems are remarkable, the conservation and research on rare and endemic plants and fishes has made breakthrough, the multiplication of rare and endemic plants such as Davidia involucrata (Chinese Dove tree), Taxus chinensis (Chinese yew), Myricaria laxiflora, and Adiantum reniforme var. sinense has made breakthrough, the complete artificial propagation of second filial generation Chinese sturgeon has succeeded for consecutive years since 2009. The water and soil conservation, and pollution prevention and control, has been orderly and steadily carried out in construction zones, and the effect is obvious, while no environmental violations incidents has been occured for many consecutive years. In 2013, CTG Mr. LU Chun, Board Chairman Mr. WANG Lin, President successfully passed the “Three Standards in One” management system certification, which is in line with the international standards, further perfected the environment management system, greatly improved its environment management capacity, thus the environmental protection work has entered a new stage. Looking into the future, CTG will always keep in mind the great trust of the CPC and the people, conscientiously study and implement the guidelines of the Third Plenum of the 18th Central Committee of the CPC, closely focus on the strategic objectives to build a world-class clean energy conglomerate, vigorously develop clean energy, and make greater contribution on building a beautiful China. Managers’ Statement China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG) is an international clean energy conglomerate mainly engaged in large-scale hydropower development in Yangtze River Basin as well as active and orderly development in wind power, solar energy and other new energies. • Determination of the Velocity and Direction of Groundwater Seepage in Monitoring Wells Around Three-Gorges of the Yangtze River
Journal of Water Resource and Hydraulic Engineering Sept . 2016 , Vol. 5 Iss. 3, PP. 133-139 Determination of the Velocity and Direction of Groundwater Seepage in Monitoring Wells around Three-Gorges of the Yangtze River Using Isotope Tracing Method REN Hong-wei 1, LIU Yao-wei 1, ZHANG Lei 1 1Key Laboratory of Crustal Dynamics, Institute of Crustal Dynamics, CEA, Beijing, China [email protected] Abstract-In order to investigate whether the groundwater moving state is affected after Three Gorges Reservoir impoundment, this study tested the velocity and direction of the groundwater seepage in the monitoring wells around Three Gorges Dam using the method of isotope tracing, and gained good results. Test results showed that the groundwater seepage directions in Gaojiaxi well (W1) and Hanjiawan well (W4) are respectively 25°east by south and 2° south by east, according with the previous hydro-geological inference. These indicated that the groundwater seepage directions around the Three Gorges Dam are not affected significantly after reservoir impoundment. The groundwater seepage velocities in W1 and W4 wells are respectively 0.72m/d and 1.29m/d. There is small difference between them and this may be related to the tectonic setting of the two wells. Keywords- Isotope Tracing; Seepage Velocity; Seepage Direction; The Three-Gorges of the Yangtze River I. INTRODUCTION Three Gorges Project(TGP) is the largest hydraulic key project in the world today, including flood control, power generation, shipping and water supply. It is of great promoting significance for the stable development of social economy. Recently, the continuous drought in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the extreme weather events such as sharp turn from drought to flood in part countries occur, and these raise again the debate of the advantages and disadvantages of TGP.

Following the analytic process that has been the conducting thread in the last few years, ISOCARP Congresses have been looking at the sustainability problem and how it was and is still affecting the planet from many different professional perspectives. In Dalian, 2008, we looked at urban sprawl, in Porto 2009 we concentrated on Low Carbon Cities in respect of the developed world, in Nairobi 2010, the subject matter focused on sustainability in developing economies. In Wuhan 2011, the overall concept is to attempt to understand how the different alternatives and initiatives can now be blended together with careful attention being paid to all of the policies that have already been discussed in our previous Congresses.
