Plenary session, Strasbourg

Election of the new EP President. The first act of the newly-elected Parliament will be to elect its President. MEPs who are nominated for the EP presidency by Monday, 19.00, will each be entitled to give a five-minute presentation on Tuesday, 10.00, prior to the vote. Candidates for the presidency may be proposed either by a political group or by a minimum of 40 MEPs and the vote is held by secret paper ballot. (Tuesday) Election of Parliament’s Vice-Presidents and Quaestors. Once the new President has taken the chair, MEPs will vote to elect its 14 Vice-Presidents and five Quaestors. The first ballot of each election is held by a secret paper ballot, followed by secret electronic votes. (Tuesday and Wednesday) Agenda Debate on European summit. MEPs will debate the results of the 26-27 June European Council with the European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and Commission President José Manuel Barroso. (Wednesday)

Debates on Italian and Greek EU presidencies. MEPs will debate ’s EU Presidency priorities with Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and on the work of the outgoing Greek Presidency with Prime Minister Antonis Samaras and Commission President José Manuel Barroso. A press conference with Prime Minister Samaras, Parliament's newly elected president and President Barroso is scheduled for 12.30. Prime Minister Renzi, the new president of the Parliament and President Barroso plan to hold a press conference at 17.00.(Wednesday)

Forming Parliament’s committees. Parliament will vote on the numerical size of its committees and on their membership. Committee chairs and vice-chairs will be elected in the constituent committee sessions on 7 July. The EP Rules of Procedure say committee membership should as far as possible reflect the composition of Parliament. (Wednesday and Thursday)

Closing ceremony of the 7th legislature. A raising of the colours ceremony will take place at 15.30 on the parvis of the Louise Weiss building in the presence of Parliament's acting president Gianni Pittella, to mark the end of the 7th European parliamentary legislature, before the new Parliament holds its constituent session on Tuesday 10.00. (Monday)
