V současné době se rod dělí na dvě sekce. V sekci Diffusae se rozlišují čtyři druhy L. alberto-vojtechii, L. diffusa, L. fricii, L. koehresii. Do sekce Lophophora se řadí jeden polymorfní druh L. williamsii. Takovéto systematické členění rodu je ale povětšinou ignorováno odbornou veřejností a v odborné literatuře se lze setkat s názory, že rod obsahuje jenom dva druhy, jižní typ – L. -

Received 18 January, 2017, Accepted 8 March, 2017 The two target cactus species in this study, Micranthocereus flaviflorus subsp. densiflorus (Buining and Brederoo) P.J.Braun and Esteves and Micranthocereus. polyanthus subsp. alvinii M. Machado and Hofacker, are endemic to the state of Bahia and have ornamental value. Therefore, this work proposed to establish M. flaviflorus in vitro, as well as to micropropagate both species. The temperature regimes 25°C and 30°C and the alternating temperatures of 15 to 25°C were tested for in vitro germination of M. flaviflorus seeds, which achieved higher germination rates at 25°C. Regarding nutrient media, the lower water potentials of MS and MS/2 media, when compared to agar, allowed the germination of M. flaviflorus seeds. Furthermore, the test of plant growth regulators for in vitro multiplication consisted of regulator concentrations in a factorial arrangement (2x4): Naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA) (0 and 1.34 μmol L-1) and Kinetin (KIN) (0, 6.74, 20.22 and 40.44 μmol L-1) in MS/2 media. -

ABSTRACT Astrophytum asterias, commonly called star cactus, is a federally listed endangered cactus endemic to the Tamaulipan thornscrub ecoregion of extreme southern Texas, USA, and Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Only three metapopulations totaling less than 4000 plants are presently known in Texas. Star cactus, known locally as “star peyote”, is highly sought by collectors. This small, dome-shaped, spineless, eight- ribbed cactus is sometimes mistaken for peyote (Lophophora williamsii), which grows in the same or adjacent habitats. Peyote is harvested from native thornscrub habitats in Texas by local Hispanic people and sold to peyoteros, licensed distributors who sell the peyote to Native American Church members. Annual peyote harvests in Texas approach 2,000,000 “buttons” (crowns). Although the peyoteros do not buy star cactus from harvesters, they cultivate star cactus in peyote gardens at their places of business and give star cacti to their customers as lagniappe. If even 0.1% of harvested “peyote” is actually star cactus, the annual take of this endangered cactus approaches the total number of wild specimens known in the U.S. This real but unquantifiable take, together with information from interviews with local residents, suggests the existence of many more star cactus populations than have been documented. Las poblaciones de esta especie son mermadas por el saqueo directo de individuos debido a sus supuestas propiedades químicas y curativas. Además, los sitios en donde habita están sujetos a transformaciones constantes por cambios de uso del suelo. La especie es señalada como amenazada (A) en la NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010, como vulnerable (Vu) en la Lista Roja de la UICN y está incluida en el Apéndice ll de CITES. Sin embargo, la asignación de estas categorías ha sido un tanto subjetiva debido a la carencia de información sobre muchos aspectos de la biología de la especie. En este trabajo se aplicó el Método de Evaluación del Riesgo de Extinción de las Especies Silvestres en México (MER) (Anexo I de la NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010) con el fin de justificar la re-categorización deL. diffusa como especie en peligro de extinción (P). Palabras clave: Conservación, disturbio, especie en peligro, MER, Peyote. Abstract The “peyote queretano” Lophophora diffusa, is an endemic cactus from the semiarid region Queretaro-Hidalguense. Their populations have decreased by direct plunder of individuals due to their supposed healing and chemical properties. In addition, sites are subject to constant changes in land use. The species is designated as threatened (A) in the NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010, as Vulnerable (VU) in the IUCN Red List and is listed in Appendix II of CITES. -

MARTIN TERRY Stalking the wild Lophophora PART 1 Chihuahua and Coahuila Ay, Chihuahua! ul Ross State University gradu- ate student Robert Hibbitts and I set off in my old Dodge truck from Alpine, Texas, in late May and crossed into Mexico at Presidio- Ojinaga, which is the only official border crossing between El Paso, at the westernmost corner of Texas, and Del Rio, some 500 miles downstream. Presi- Sdio, Texas is a town of about 3000 souls. Ojina- ga, on the Chihuahua side, is considerably larg- er, famous for its delicious asadero cheese and its high murder rate. From here a scenic two- lane, Mexican Highway 16, winds through the massive mountains of northern Chihuahua to the state capital, Ciudad Chihuahua, where we arrived on the campus of the agricultural school of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua on the southwestern edge of the city. Hoping to receive guidance with regard to the exact loca- tions of populations of Lophophora williamsii on the western edge of its range (and also of the range of the genus), we were disappointed to learn that no one had managed to locate a single Lophophora population in the state—valuable information nonetheless. Contrary to the report of Robert Bye, quoting anonymous sources sug- gesting that Lophophora occurred in “the hills west of Chihuahua City”1, Dr Toutcha Zebgue told us that such an occurrence was extreme- ly unlikely. Not only had peyote not been found there, but the geology was all wrong: igneous rock, rather than the limestone normally pre- ferred by Peyote. Chloroplast DNA sequences of the trnK intron, including the matK gene, were sequenced for 70 ingroup taxa and two outgroups from the Portulacaceae. In order to improve resolution in three major groups of Cactoideae, trnL-trnF sequences from members of these clades were added to a combined analysis. The three exemplars of Pereskia did not form a monophyletic group but a basal grade. The well-supported subfamilies Cactoideae and Opuntioideae and the genus Maihuenia formed a weakly supported clade sister to Pereskia. The parsimony analysis supported a sister group relationship of Maihuenia and Opuntioideae, although the likelihood analysis did not. Blossfeldia, a monotypic genus of morphologically modi®ed and ecologically specialized cacti, was identi®ed as the sister group to all other Cactoideae. -
