WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22, 2016 PLETCHER JUVENILES SARATOGA BOUND >MOON= ON THE RISE, >ICE= by Ben Massam ON THE COMEBACK TRAIL Some two months into the 2-year-old racing season, seven-time Eclipse Award winner Todd Pletcher has already established his customary position at the fore of the training ranks, with two juvenile stakes wins and a number of other promising prospects. Pletcher=s barn was firing on all cylinders this past weekend, sending out three maiden graduates in the span of three hours at Belmont Park and Monmouth Park, Saturday. Pletcher kicked off the action with a rallying score by Bronson (Medaglia d=Oro) in a five-furlong maiden event at the Jersey Shore [video]. Given that the colt=s pedigree leans toward longer-distance races and turf--including his MGSW dam Cambiocorsa (Avenue of Flags)--Pletcher said that he was pleased to see his charge win at first asking on dirt. Offered by Hertfordshire-based Newsells Park Stud, the colt (Lot 20) was sold to SackvilleDonald’s Alastair Donald, whose valuation added a crisp £100,000 to the previous Doncaster best price for a yearling which had been achieved on three previous occasions. In 2011 an Oasis Dream colt who became sire Gale Force Ten made £280,000, and that was matched by Galileo Lot 20, the son of Gleneagles who smashed the record price Gold’s sister Choumicha (Paco Boy) in 2015 and, the following at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale when knocked down to year, by last month’s Gr.3 Hackwood Stakes winner Yafta (Dark SackvilleDonald for £380,000. © Sarah Farnsworth Angel). Donald, whose financially robust clients include King Power Racing, has been enjoying a winning run with his sales-ring stand-out horse at this sale and one of the nicest horses I’ve seen at purchases, highlighted by a four-timer on Saturday that included Doncaster in many a year.

The QIPCO Guineas Festival 2021 Featured Image: https://www.flickr.com/photos/113417287@N08 © 2021 TGH Trading Ltd – All Rights Reserved The 2021 Qipco Guinea’s Festival at Newmarket is a weekend of world class turf flat racing over two days, featuring the first two Classic races of the new turf flat season, the 1000 and 2000 Guineas, which form part of the British Champion Series. First run in 1809 the 2000 Guineas, a race ran for 3 year old colts and fillies and named after the amount of Prize Money on offer, was followed 5 years later, in 1814, by the addition of the 1000 Guineas, a race solely for 3 year old fillies. Both races are run on the Newmarket Rowley Mile course on consecutive days. The 2000 Guineas on day 1 is a test of speed for the thoroughbred runners and the prize money on offer for the winner this year amounts to a hefty £212,663, with the race forming the first part of the English Triple Crown which also includes the Epsom Derby and the St Leger. The English Triple Crown has been won by 15 horses over its years (including 3 winners of substitute races at Newmarket during World War I). The most recent and most popular is Nijinsky back in 1970 ridden by the famous Lester Piggott. Steve Mellish explains in the video below why achieving the Triple Crown is such a difficult task. STALLIONS 2017 STALLIONS 2017 Your Key to Success Welcome to Rathbarry & Glenview Studs 2017 Dear Breeders, The nature of the bloodstock industry is that each and every year brings fresh challenges as well STALLIONS 2017 as new achievements and 2016 has been no different. The main concern is that there has been increased catalogue sizes to cater for a larger foal crop of 2015, so the necessity for breeders to focus on quality and value is more important than ever. Happily we have witnessed another fantastic year for ACCLAMATION’s progeny on the track with 17 Black Type performers including Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye winner MARSHA and Dual Group 2 winning 2-Y-O MEHMAS. LIMATO has again proved a great advertisement for TAGULA in 2016, when competing at the highest level. He was successful in Group 1 July Cup and Group 1 Prix de la Foret and we look forward to even more successes for him in 2017. As we write the first crop foals by the Group 2 Winning and Dual Group 1 placed 2-Y-O MOOHAAJIM and the Dual Group 1 Winning Miler, XTENSION, are being prepared for the sales ring and we are confident that you will be impressed by their excellent quality and confirmation. In 2017 we are proud to introduce two new stallions which will offer breeders a great variety of choice to our existing roster - AJAYA, the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes Winning 2-Y-O by Leading Sire Invincible Spirit from an established stallion producing female line and KODI BEAR, the Group 2 Winner of 4 Stakes Races from 7-8 furlongs, by Multiple Stakes Producing sire Kodiac.

  • A Guide for Owners & Trainers
A GUIDE FOR OWNERS & TRAINERS TUESDAY 30 JULY – SATURDAY 3 AUGUST 2019 THE QATAR GOODWOOD FESTIVAL Welcome To Goodwood Proudly boasting an illustrious history and heritage, Goodwood is an inspirational and unique venue that has often been described as the world’s most beautiful racecourse. I am delighted that the continuing success of the Qatar Goodwood Festival has culminated in further race upgrades, most notably The Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes, upgrading to Group 2 status last year. Goodwood has, for more than 200 years, been about the best racing in the most English of settings, accessible to everyone. Our partnership with Qatar has enabled us to significantly increase the prize money on offer this and it is, as always, key for us that this new money does not just sit at the top end but trickles down to the grassroots of the entire race programme. Royalty, celebrities, sporting heroes, statesmen and diplomats have all enjoyed visiting Goodwood. It now gives me great pleasure to invite some of the very best overseas owners and trainers to be a part of this truly great horseracing Festival and join our ambition to become the best race week experience in the world. The Duke of Richmond and Gordon Owner of Goodwood Over £5million in prize money will be awarded over five thrilling days at Goodwood Racecourse from 30 July – 3 August 2019 The Qatar Goodwood Festival, now in its fifth year, has established itself as one of the most competitive and entertaining weeks in the international racing calendar. Including the increase in prize money for the upgraded Qatar Lillie Langtry Stakes the total prize purse for the Festival now exceeds £5.5million and no race will be run for less than £25,000.
