HARZAND KEY FACTS

HARZAND a remarkable feat in winning both the blue ribbon of the turf, the Gr I , Dual and the Gr I Irish Derby this year. In doing so, he became Derby winner only the 18th horse to complete this Derby double in 151 years and H.H. the Aga Khan’s fi fth dual Derby winner.

2016 was particularly successful for the graduates of the Aga Khan Studs. The fi llies and mares offered at the breeding stock sales produced the winners of no less than 30 Stakes races, including Europe’s leading three-year-old ALMANZOR. Talented Group I winners VADAMOS and MONT ORMEL were also bred out of mares purchased from the Aga Khan Studs and the success of dual Derby winner HARZAND, his dam Hazariya having been sold in 2014, further demonstrates the potential of the mares offered for sale.

Over the jumps, DAWALAN, who was bred by the Aga Khan Studs, ALMANZOR was crowned Champion Steeplechase Horse at the Eclipse Awards in the USA. This year’s highly impressive winner of the Gr I Prix du Jockey RAWNAQ, out of the Aga Khan bred mare Sharemata, won two Grade I races in Club, Gr I Irish Champion Stakes and Gr I Champion Stakes is 2016, including America’s richest Steeplechase, the US . the fi rst foal of Aga Khan-bred Darkova who was sold for €16,000 to Almanzor’s breeder, Haras d’Etreham. 52 Almanzor VADAMOS Winner of the Gr I Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, Vadamos was bred by Haras de Saint Pair out of Celebre Vadala.
