Creationists List 3/10/08
HOME GODTUBE BOOKSTORE YOUTUBE ESSAYS PANORAMIO VIDEOS FAQ PHOTOS LINKS BLOG GENESIS WEEK Darwin Skeptics A Select List of Science Academics, Scientists, and Scholars Who are Skeptical of Darwinism Compiled by Jerry Bergman PhD. It is commonly claimed that no scientist rejects macroevolution or Darwinism (by which is meant evolutionary naturalism, or the view that variation caused by mutations plus natural selection accounts for all life forms). For example, Dr. Steve Jones, Professor of Genetics at University College of London, wrote that “no scientist denies the central truth of The Origin, the idea of descent with modification... plants, animals and everything else descended from a common ancestor” (Jones, 2000, pp. xvii, xxiii). Other writers avoid the words “all” or “no scientist” and claim instead that “almost no scientist” rejects Darwinism as defined above. In an article refuting “wiccan creationism,” the author claimed that evolutionary theory has been confirmed to such a high degree and has such great explanatory power that it is the central organizing principle of the biological sciences today. Modern biology is basically unthinkable outside of the context of evolution and that is why it is accepted without reservations by pretty much every working scientists [sic] in the life sciences. It also isn’t really questioned in the other natural sciences, either, like physics or chemistry. The author then makes the following absolutist statement: Evolution is taken as a fact—and while there might be disagreements about some of the details of how evolution proceeds, there are no disagreements about the idea that it does occur and that it is the explanation for the diversity of life on our planet. -

THE HOLLYWOOD YOUTH NARRATIVE AND THE FAMILY VALUES CAMPAIGN, 1980-1992 by Clare Connors Bachelor of Arts, Macalester College, 1982 Masters of Arts, University of Louisville, 1987 Submitted to the Graduate Faculty of Arts and Sciences in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of Pittsburgh 2005 UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH FACULTY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES This dissertation was presented by Clare Connors It was defended on April 15, 2005 and approved by Dr. Marcia Landy Dr. Troy Boone Dr. Carol Stabile Dr. Lucy Fischer Dissertation Director ii THE HOLLYWOOD YOUTH NARRATIVE AND THE FAMILY VALUES CAMPAIGN, 1980-1992 Clare Connors, PhD University of Pittsburgh, 2005 The dissertation seeks to identify and analyze the cultural work performed by the Hollywood youth narrative during the 1980s and early nineties, a period that James Davison Hunter has characterized as a domestic “culture war.” This era of intense ideological confrontation between philosophical agendas loosely defined as “liberal” and “conservative,” increasing social change, and social polarization and gender/sexual orientation backlash began with Ronald Reagan’s landslide victory in 1980 and continued for twelve years through the presidency of George Bush, Sr. The dissertation examines the Hollywood youth narrative in the context of the family values debate and explicates its role in negotiating and resolving social conflict in a period of intense social change and ideological confrontation. The dissertation theorizes the historic and cultural function of the Hollywood youth narrative in “translating” complex social problems into generational and familial conflicts that can be easily, if superficially, resolved through conventional Hollywood genre narrative structures. -
Hate Crime Report 031008
HATE CRIMES IN THE OSCE REGION - INCIDENTS AND RESPONSES ANNUAL REPORT FOR 2007 Warsaw, October 2008 Foreword In 2007, violent manifestations of intolerance continued to take place across the OSCE region. Such acts, although targeting individuals, affected entire communities and instilled fear among victims and members of their communities. The destabilizing effect of hate crimes and the potential for such crimes and incidents to threaten the security of individuals and societal cohesion – by giving rise to wider-scale conflict and violence – was acknowledged in the decision on tolerance and non-discrimination adopted by the OSCE Ministerial Council in Madrid in November 2007.1 The development of this report is based on the task the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) received “to serve as a collection point for information and statistics on hate crimes and relevant legislation provided by participating States and to make this information publicly available through … its report on Challenges and Responses to Hate-Motivated Incidents in the OSCE Region”.2 A comprehensive consultation process with governments and civil society takes place during the drafting of the report. In February 2008, ODIHR issued a first call to the nominated national points of contact on combating hate crime, to civil society, and to OSCE institutions and field operations to submit information for this report. The requested information included updates on legislative developments, data on hate crimes and incidents, as well as practical initiatives for combating hate crime. I am pleased to note that the national points of contact provided ODIHR with information and updates on a more systematic basis. -
Sheigra Dxpedition Log 1985-2020
SHEIGRA DXPEDITION LOG 1985-2020 A compilation of mediumwave logs from Sheigra DXpeditions Part 1: The Americas Sheigra DXpedition Log This is a compilation of logs from past Sheigra DXpeditions for stations heard in the Americas (a separate compilation has been made for those stations heard in Africa, Asia and the Pacific). Sheigra is a small crofting village in the North West Scottish Highlands. The A838 makes its way to Rhiconich where the B801 branches off to Kinlochbervie. To arrive the traveller must pass through some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. The Scottish Highlands are a vast and unique place. At the head of Loch Inchard, the side road follows the northern shore to the fishing port of Kinlochbervie, four miles northwest of Rhiconich. Beautifully situated, the B801, both single and double tack, is the narrow winding road leading north-westwards from Rhiconich with splendid views towards the lonely mountain Reay Forest, dominated by Foinaven and heads west to Kinlochbervie. Through the crofting townships of Achriesgill, Inshegra, Badcall Inchard and Oldshoremore to Blairmore and Balchrick, the road continues for some four miles towards the open sea with fine views, and ends beyond Balchrick at Sheigra, the last habitation on the west coast and a small hamlet of the western coastline. The first visit to the area took place in 1979, when Dave Kenny, Chris Greenway and James Hobson ventured north for a mini-DXpedition based in nearby Oldshoremore, just a short distance away from Sheigra. The first DXpedition to Sheigra itself took place in October 1985 with Mark Hattam, John Faulkner, Ian Kelly and David Hyams travelling north to Sutherland, whilst the latest was in October 2020 with Dave Kenny and Alan Pennington.
