The Visser Chronicles
1 Animorphs Chronicles 3 Visser K.A. Applegate *Converted to EBook by asmodeus *edited by Dace k 2 Prologue “Honey?” No answer. My husband was watching a game on television. He was preoccupied. “Honey?” I repeated, adding more urgency to my tone of voice. He looked over. Smiled sheepishly. “What’s up?” “Marco’s fever is down. I think he’s basically over this thing. He’s asleep. Anyway, I was thinking of getting some fresh air.” He muted the television. “Good idea. It’s tough when they’re sick, huh? Kids. He’s okay, though, huh?” “It’s just a virus.” “Yeah, well, take some time, you’ve been carrying the load. And if you’re going to the store- “ “Actually, I think I’ll go down to the marina.” He laughed and shook his head. “Ever since you bought that boat… I think Marco has some competition as the favorite child in this household.” He frowned. “You’re not taking it out, are you? Looks kind of gloomy out.” I made a smile. “Just want to make sure it’s well secured, check the ropes and all.” He was back with the game. He winced at some error made by his preferred team. “Uh-huh. Okay.” I stepped back, turned, and walked down the hall. The door to Marco’s room was ajar. I paused to look inside. I almost couldn’t do otherwise because the other voice in my head, the beaten-down, repressed human voice, was alive and screaming and screaming at me, begging me, pleading <No! No! No!> Marco was still asleep. -
Governing New Guinea New
Governing New Guinea New Guinea Governing An oral history of Papuan administrators, 1950-1990 Governing For the first time, indigenous Papuan administrators share their experiences in governing their country with an inter- national public. They were the brokers of development. After graduating from the School for Indigenous Administrators New Guinea (OSIBA) they served in the Dutch administration until 1962. The period 1962-1969 stands out as turbulent and dangerous, Leontine Visser (Ed) and has in many cases curbed professional careers. The politi- cal and administrative transformations under the Indonesian governance of Irian Jaya/Papua are then recounted, as they remained in active service until retirement in the early 1990s. The book brings together 17 oral histories of the everyday life of Papuan civil servants, including their relationship with superiors and colleagues, the murder of a Dutch administrator, how they translated ‘development’ to the Papuan people, the organisation of the first democratic institutions, and the actual political and economic conditions leading up to the so-called Act of Free Choice. Finally, they share their experiences in the UNTEA and Indonesian government organisation. Leontine Visser is Professor of Development Anthropology at Wageningen University. Her research focuses on governance and natural resources management in eastern Indonesia. Leontine Visser (Ed.) The Community Industry: an Analysis of Reddit and /R/Socialism
THE COMMUNITY INDUSTRY: AN ANALYSIS OF REDDIT AND /R/SOCIALISM Richard Babb A Dissertation Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2021 Committee: Radhika Gajjala, Advisor Samuel T McAbee, Graduate Faculty Representative Lara Lengel Yanqin Lu © 2021 Richard Babb All Rights Reserved iii ABSTRACT Radhika Gajjala, Advisor Social media is an increasingly important space for community formation and interactions. Coinciding with the rise of social media has been an increasing interest in leftist ideologies once outside the mainstream. This analysis seeks to understand the social media site Reddit.com’s enabling and constraining features on the community /r/socialism. Using the communicative theory of identity and Marxist media theory not only to look at Reddit and /r/socialism’s relationship, but five key functions of a media: capital-economic, media sales and media market function, commodity circulation, domination, and the audience. Employing a mixed-methods approach enabled various data to be analyzed and relationally understood. Qualitative content analysis was used to examine user’s salient topics and their uses for the community. Survey methods were deployed to the community to gather demographic data on the /r/socialism community and user opinions on the group’s relationship with Reddit. Finally, secondary documents were analyzed to provide greater context to the other findings. Findings from the content analysis of salient subjects showed a preference for contemporary capitalist critique, socialist quotations, and class issues. However, topics impacting women and other minority groups were light to nonexistent. -
The Biology and Ecology of Cat Fleas and Advancements in Their Pest Management: a Review
insects Review The Biology and Ecology of Cat Fleas and Advancements in Their Pest Management: A Review Michael K. Rust ID Department of Entomology, University of California Riverside, Riverside, CA 92521, USA; [email protected]; Tel.: +1-951-827-5327 Academic Editors: Changlu Wang and Chow-Yang Lee Received: 7 August 2017; Accepted: 18 October 2017; Published: 27 October 2017 Abstract: The cat flea Ctenocephalides felis felis (Bouché) is the most important ectoparasite of domestic cats and dogs worldwide. It has been two decades since the last comprehensive review concerning the biology and ecology of C. f. felis and its management. Since then there have been major advances in our understanding of the diseases associated with C. f. felis and their implications for humans and their pets. Two rickettsial diseases, flea-borne spotted fever and murine typhus, have been identified in domestic animal populations and cat fleas. Cat fleas are the primary vector of Bartonella henselae (cat scratch fever) with the spread of the bacteria when flea feces are scratched in to bites or wounds. Flea allergic dermatitis (FAD) common in dogs and cats has been successfully treated and tapeworm infestations prevented with a number of new products being used to control fleas. There has been a continuous development of new products with novel chemistries that have focused on increased convenience and the control of fleas and other arthropod ectoparasites. The possibility of feral animals serving as potential reservoirs for flea infestations has taken on additional importance because of the lack of effective environmental controls in recent years. B. cenocepa- cia is known for its ability to cause lung infections in people with cystic fibrosis and it possesses a large 8 Mb multireplicon genome encoding a wide array of pathogenicity and fitness genes. Transcriptomic profiling across nine growth conditions was performed to identify the global gene expression changes made when B. cenocepacia changes niches from an environmental lifestyle to infection. In comparison to exponential growth, the results demonstrated that B. cenocepacia changes expression of over one-quarter of its genome during conditions of growth arrest, stationary phase and surprisingly, under reduced oxygen concentrations (6% instead of 20.9% normal atmospheric conditions). Multiple virulence factors are upregulated during these growth arrest conditions. -

1 Collin de Visser – 3772047 Israëlslaan 2, Utrecht MA English Language and Culture: Education and Communication Thesis (20 ECTS) First supervisor: Dr. E.W. van der Knaap Second supervisor: Dr. R.G.J.L. Supheert 18-04-2017 14,519 words Bridging the reading gap: An Exploratory Study into the Possibilities of Graphic Novels for Dutch teachers of English in Secondary Education. 2 Abstract Dutch English as a foreign language education faces two challenging developments, namely the gap between the lingual school culture and the visual popular culture, and the transition from the lower forms to the upper forms marks a sudden shift from reading education to literature education. Secondary school pupils do not read less, but they read differently. This study argues that the graphic novel is a perfect tool that can bridge the gap between the two cultures and between the more reader-oriented lower years and more culture-oriented upper years. This study attempted to map the educational possibilities of the graphic novel for teachers in Dutch EFL education and was carried out in two third-year classes at a secondary school in the Netherlands. First, results were gathered from four third-year students who provided insights that were helpful for designing the materials and lessons. Subsequently, one havo and one vwo class participated in four lessons that used four graphic novels and thirteen different exercises. Interviews and questionnaires were used to gather the results. This study found that the success of the graphic novel is entirely dependent on the way it is implemented. Interesting results are that female participants enjoyed the exercises more and that the difficulty level of the graphic novels and exercises did not have an effect. -

Animorphs the Threat
Animorphs The Threat Converted to E-Book by: Kamal Raniga My name is Rachel. And I was deep in this strange dream that seemed to involve me trying on dresses at my favorite department store. Only the salesladies kept bringing me things that were way, way too small. So I said, "Hey, can't you tell these aren't my size?" And the saleslady said, "Well, we don't have anything in your size." "What?" I demanded. "You don't have anything in size three hundred and twelve?" Wait a minute, I thought. / don't wear size three hundred and twelve. But at that moment I caught sight of myself in the mirror. And I was in my elephant morph. I was still growing. Bigger and bigger, till my massive bulk was pressing people against the walls and floors and ceiling. I looked down, and there, beneath one massive fold of elephant belly, was a small figure in an orange hooded sweatshirt. "Oh, my God! She killed Kenny!" someone cried. "Aaaahhhh!" I screamed. "Try Juniors on the second floor," the saleslady suggested. "Only please don't use the elevator." And then she leaped at me and started digging her fingernails into me. They were really sharp. So I got mad and I shoved her. Only when I shoved her, she suddenly wasn't a saleslady at all. She was a bird. "Aaahhh!" I yelled, sitting straight up. There, in the darkness of my room, the large gray bird fluttered back and knocked into my desk. "Tobias?" I whispered. Only it wasn't a red-tailed hawk. -

Read Ebook {PDF EPUB} Visser by K.A. Applegate Visser — K.A. Applegate. In an hour or so, once I was out of sight of land, I would lower my sails and wait for a Bug fighter to come lift me off the deck. The engine backwash of the Bug fighter would capsize the boat. Or / might put the Taxxon pilot to the test and see if he could ram the low-slung boat. That would puzzle the humans. Either way, my body would never be found. My time of lying low was over. I would spearhead the invasion of Earth. I would take charge of our greatest conquest. I would stand alone atop the Yeerk military hierarchy. I was to become Visser One. Her human name is Eva. There was a time when she had a loving husband and a son, Marco. When she had a wonderful career. But that was before she was infested by Edriss 562. Before the invasion of Earth. Now, Edriss 562 lives in Eva's head and controls her every movement. And through Eva, Edriss has become the highest-ranking general in the Yeerk empire, surpassing even her arch rival, Visser Three. She is Visser One. But, it has become known that Visser One's tactics for attaining her current position were less than acceptable -- even to the Yeerks. Now she is on trial for treason. If she's found innocent she'll continue to rule. But if she's found guilty, she'll lose her life -- and possibly the life of her host, Eva. -
