Yogyakarta: Department of English Letters, Sanata Dharma University, 2016. Death is something that every living thing in this world cannot avoid. Sooner or later death will come and claim the living things’ life. When someone is forced to face death (or in other word face the terror of death) it will create a reaction inside that person’s mind related to the death which he or she faces. Usually the reaction caused by such even is fear. Fear can be one of things that affects one’s psychological condition. This study has three objectives. First, this study describes the characteristic of the protagonists in Animorphs. Second, after describing the protagonists and understand their characteristics, this study wants to analyze the kind of terrors which are faced by the protagonist. Third, after understanding the terror and the character’s reaction towards it, this study wants to analyze the kind of defense mechanism that they use, and how they apply it in their daily life This study used library research methods. First the writer read the main source of the study which is all of the Animorphsnovels. Second the writer selected thirteen books and conducted close reading on them. Third the writer then studied from books, journals, and studies which has a relation with the problem on the novel. Finally the writer analyzed the relation between the studies/theories and the novel. The primary source of this study is K.A Applegate’s Animorph, while the secondary sources are books and journals about psychology, terror, and defense mechanism. The approach used in this study is psychological approach, because this study wants to analyze the psychological condition of the protagonists. The problems that the protagonists of theAnimorphs have are how their life is endangered because of the Yeerks’ invasion. This study discovers that the protagonists of Animorphs choose their defense mechanism based on their characteristic. Jake, who is considered to be a responsible person, adopted a defense mechanism called anticipation (realistic planning). Rachel, who is the most reckless and the bravest member of the team adopted a defense mechanism called courage (bravely facing any trouble). Marco, who likes to make a joke out of everything adopted a defense mechanism called humor (Entertaining himself and others). Tobias, who is a loner, adopted a defense mechanism

    Carbon Capture: A Technology Assessment Peter Folger, Coordinator Specialist in Energy and Natural Resources Policy November 5, 2013 Congressional Research Service 7-5700 www.crs.gov R41325 CRS Report for Congress Prepared for Members and Committees of Congress Carbon Capture: A Technology Assessment Summary Carbon capture and sequestration (or carbon capture and storage, CCS) is widely seen as a critical strategy for limiting atmospheric emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2)—the principal “greenhouse gas” linked to global climate change—from power plants and other large industrial sources. This report focuses on the first component of a CCS system, the CO2 capture process. Unlike the other two components of CCS, transportation and geologic storage, the CO2 capture component of CCS is heavily technology-dependent. For CCS to succeed at reducing CO2 emissions from a significant fraction of large sources in the United States, CO2 capture technologies would need to be deployed widely. Widespread commercial deployment would likely depend, in part, on the cost of the technology deployed to capture CO2. This report assesses prospects for improved, lower- cost technologies for each of the three current approaches to CO2 capture: post-combustion capture; pre-combustion capture; and oxy-combustion capture. While all three approaches are capable of high CO2 capture efficiencies (typically about 90%), the major drawbacks of current processes are their high cost and the large energy requirements for operation. Another drawback in terms of their availability for greenhouse gas mitigation is that at present, there are still no full-scale applications of CO2 capture on a coal-fired or gas-fired power plant (i.e., a scale of several hundred megawatts of plant capacity).

NOVAK PROFESSOR, UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN SCHOOL OF LAW The idea of regulatory capture has controlled discussions of economic regulation and regulatory reform for more than two generations. Originating soon after World War II, the so-called “capture thesis” was an early harbinger of the more general critique of the American regulatory state that dominated the closing decades of the 20th century. The political ramifications of that broad critique of government continue to be felt today both in the resilient influence of neoliberal policies like deregulation and privatization as well as in the rise of more virulent and populist forms of anti-statism. Indeed, the capture thesis has so pervaded recent assessments of regulation that it has assumed something of the status of a ground norm – a taken-for-granted term of art and an all-purpose social-scientific explanation – that itself frequently escapes critical scrutiny or serious scholarly interrogation. This essay attempts to challenge this state of affairs by taking a critical look at the emergence of regulatory capture theory from the perspective of history. After introducing a brief account of the diverse intellectual roots of the capture idea, this essay makes three interpretive moves.

    The Gorilla in a Tutu Principle or, Pecan Pie at Minnie and Earl’s Adam-Troy Castro Prior Analog stories set against the backdrop of this very strange period in the history of lunar colonization were "Sunday Night Yams at Minnie and Earl's" (June 2001) and "Gunfight at Farside" (April 2009). Many years ago—and when a man as old as I am uses the phrase, “many years ago,” he means a lifetime—I told Minnie, “I’m an engineer, not a poet.” Minnie was a dear old gal of unfailing honesty, with a central role in what follows. I was in love with her eyes. I don’t mean this in a sexual way. The difference between our ages, and certainly our backgrounds, would have made that grotesque. But her eyes were rich and deep, and filled with an understanding of life’s greatest mysteries, that made them a perfect place to lose yourself when she was pointing out how silly you are. I haven’t seen her or her husband Earl in decades, but I can picture those eyes like it was yesterday. When I told her I wasn’t a poet, she said, “How dare you. It’s okay to operate under a poetry deficit, but to imply that deficit for an entire profession is dishonest. I’ve known more than my share of engineers, and any number of poets among them. Great engineering is poetry.” I suppose she was right. She was, in most things. Regardless, I can speak for myself. I’m not a poet, not even in the sense that sweet lady meant.

CERTIORARI TO THE UNITED STATES COURT OF APPEALS FOR THE SEVENTH CIRCUIT No. 08–1521. Argued March 2, 2010—Decided June 28, 2010 Two years ago, in District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U. S. ___, this Court held that the Second Amendment protects the right to keep and bear arms for the purpose of self-defense and struck down a Dis- trict of Columbia law that banned the possession of handguns in the home. Chicago (hereinafter City) and the village of Oak Park, a Chi- cago suburb, have laws effectively banning handgun possession by almost all private citizens. After Heller, petitioners filed this federal suit against the City, which was consolidated with two related ac- tions, alleging that the City’s handgun ban has left them vulnerable to criminals. They sought a declaration that the ban and several re- lated City ordinances violate the Second and Fourteenth Amend- ments. Rejecting petitioners’ argument that the ordinances are un- constitutional, the court noted that the Seventh Circuit previously had upheld the constitutionality of a handgun ban, that Heller had explicitly refrained from opining on whether the Second Amendment applied to the States, and that the court had a duty to follow estab- lished Circuit precedent.

    Governing New Guinea New Guinea Governing An oral history of Papuan administrators, 1950-1990 Governing For the first time, indigenous Papuan administrators share their experiences in governing their country with an inter- national public. They were the brokers of development. After graduating from the School for Indigenous Administrators New Guinea (OSIBA) they served in the Dutch administration until 1962. The period 1962-1969 stands out as turbulent and dangerous, Leontine Visser (Ed) and has in many cases curbed professional careers. The politi- cal and administrative transformations under the Indonesian governance of Irian Jaya/Papua are then recounted, as they remained in active service until retirement in the early 1990s. The book brings together 17 oral histories of the everyday life of Papuan civil servants, including their relationship with superiors and colleagues, the murder of a Dutch administrator, how they translated ‘development’ to the Papuan people, the organisation of the first democratic institutions, and the actual political and economic conditions leading up to the so-called Act of Free Choice. Finally, they share their experiences in the UNTEA and Indonesian government organisation. Leontine Visser is Professor of Development Anthropology at Wageningen University.
