I am a princess. All girls are. Even if they live in tiny old attics. Even if they dress in rags, even if they aren't pretty, or smart, or young. They're still princesses.

Continued from page 1 Harvey Waugh, Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts; Ann Comeaux, Daughters of the Nile Foundation Director; and Imperial Sir Jerry Gantt, Chairman of Shriners Hospitals for Children®. Many thanks to Anna Craig, Queen of Oppela Temple No. 50, for her assistance in making the event such a success. Another exciting plaque presentation was held at Shriners Hospital for Children® - Portland on November 7. Again, we had approximately 80 people in attendance. The majority of Al Kader Shrine’s divan joined us along with Art Borland, Most Worshipful Grand Master of Masons in Oregon. President Vickie was also honored to welcome Cathy Carol Rose, Supreme Queen; Muriel Knapp, Past Supreme Queen and Foundation Director; Dale Olbernolte, Supreme Princess Badoura and several Supreme Appointees. These plaque presentations just get more exciting. This one was very inspirational as the Foundation presented a Three Million Dollar plaque to the Portland Hospital. A very humbling moment for all in attendance was having patient Rebecca Mobley join the group for lunch. She motivated the entire group when she shared her journey as a patient at the Portland Hospital. The Shriners Hospitals for Children® system is known for its many successes, not least of which is infusing patients with the knowledge and confidence that they truly can conquer the world. Rebecca is a shining example of this belief. We wish her the best as she continues to thrive and as she continues to contribute to the world around her. The Foundation could not have had such a successful event without Sharon Kelley, Queen of Nydia Temple No. 4. Thank you, Queen Sharon, and thank you to the staff at Shriners Hospitals for Children® - Portland. Plans are also in progress for Honolulu and Mexico City plaque presentations. Dates are: February 17, 2017 Shriners Hospitals for Children® - Honolulu — Two Million February 27, 2017 Shriners Hospitals for Children® - Mexico City — Two Million If you are interested in attending either or both of these presentations, please contact Wanda Dunwoody for details. Wanda’s email address is [email protected]. In the near future, invitations will be added to the Foundation’s website, www.donfdn.org

This is my wish for you: Comfort on difficult days, smiles when sadness intrudes, rainbows to follow the clouds, laughter to kiss your lips, sunsets to warm your heart, hugs when spirits sag, beauty for your eyes to see, friendships to brighten your being, faith so that you can believe, confidence for when you doubt, courage to know yourself, patience to accept the truth. Love to complete your life. Let's make a promise right now: to always look out for each other. - “The Little Princess”

Temple Use of the Daughters of the Nile Foundation 501(c)(3) Tax Identification Number. The Foundation receives many requests for use of the 501(c)(3) tax identification number to defray costs associated with a fundraiser, particularly tax. The ultimate goal of the Foundation must always be to protect the integrity of the 501(c)(3) status. Please read the letter received from our legal counsel, Chris Blomenberg, McHenry Haszard Law. We hope this will help explain use of this number. References to fundraising guidelines may be found in the Supreme Temple Manual of Procedures, pages M-36—M-53.

THE FOUNDATION CLUB Major Donor Reception Daughters of the Nile Foundation JW Marriott—Indianapolis, July 15, 2016

The Daughters of the Nile Foundation hosted its first annual major donor reception at the 2016 Supreme Session. It was an exciting afternoon for all Foundation Board Directors and for those in attendance. Details are as follows: 29 Subordinate Temples were named as Founding Members of The Foundation Club. In order to be invited, Subordinate Temples must have donated to the Foundation at a level of $10,000 or above. These 29 Temples varied in membership and approximately 60 Temple representatives were in attendance. Invitations were mailed to the reigning Queens of each of these Temples, allowing them to invite one guest. Lucite plaques were presented to each Temple. The Foundation was honored to have in attendance several elected Supreme Officers, including Sharon K. St. John, then-Supreme Queen. The group also welcomed Jerry Gantt, 2015-2016 Imperial Potentate, and his Lady, Princess Lisa. The Imperial Potentate was very generous with his praise of Daughters of the Nile and the Foundation and what they have, together, accomplished. Those in attendance were so pleased that their Temple ladies were recognized for their hard work in 2015. Members became quite emotional congratulating each other during the champagne toast. The Daughters of the Nile Foundation has identified over twenty four (24) Subordinate Temples who have already reached the minimum requirement to be invited to this year’s 2017 event. We hope your Temple’s contributions to the Foundation will allow you to join this elite group. See you in Niagara Falls!

Philanthropy Philanthropy is a word we often stumble over with our tongues, but it is a word that adds value to our membership in Daughters of the Nile. Perhaps understanding the origin of the word philanthropy will give us special insight and a renewed interest in the service we give. Philanthropy is a term that derives from the Greek words “philos anthropos,” or love of humanity. Through our Daughters of the Nile Foundation, we show our love of humanity by uniting in the common cause of supporting the Shriners Hospitals for Children®. We are so blessed with this expression of service. Thank you for your part in our philanthropy.

FOUNDATION CLUB 2016 Two of the temples honored at the first Foundation Club Reception were Hatasu Temple No. 1 Seattle with Muriel Knapp, Past Supreme Queen, Molly Nagel, Queen and Beth Rachel Eng, Junior Past Queen; Menzaleh Temple No. 16 Sacramento with Lynda Languasco, Queen and Imperial Potentate Jerry Gantt; and the beautiful Lucite plaque presented to Menzaleh Temple.
