It is considered as the eye of the Vedas (considering the Vedas to be a person). But the science of astrology is tougher to master than any other sciences. Whether it be worldly science or spiritual science, astrology is tough in that it requires a lot of perseverance, practices and moksha or liberation. Only a true jnaani or one who has realized the non-dual reality of Brahman will be able to predict correctly or accurately (such a person alone is a true astrologer). At least progressing towards moksha alone will make us master the science of astrology. Since it is tough to master therefore many learn or try to learn this science but very few are those who are able to really master it. Just because something is tough doesn’t mean that we will give it up (or not strive for it) – since it is tough therefore we will be able to put more effort towards mastering it (at least those who are passionate and have a passion for achieving things that are tough). But what is the use or purpose of astrology? Astrology can help us know our future and predict the future for others as well. Though it is tough to change the future (or even predict the future accurately) still if we have a clue as to what awaits us in the future then we will be careful and cautious in whatever we do. For example, if it is raining heavily outside then we will still drive our car but we will be careful. Normally we will drive carelessly but since it is raining and chances of accident are high therefore we will be careful while driving. Similarly if we know as to how our future will be, then we will be careful and cautious. Anticipating that something might go wrong is enough for us to progress further happily (even if something goes wrong). The spiritual path is very tough to tread as we will experience all sorts of problems or obstacles. Amidst all this, remaining focused on the non-dual reality of Brahman isn’t that easy. Therefore the science of astrology is something that is essential to make us deal with the external world and its problems – if we face problems in the world then our focus will not be on the goal of moksha. But if we anticipate problems and are able to live expecting it then we will not be distracted away from the goal of moksha. Vetti yah vedaangam sa aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 3 Jyothisha Prakaasham Makara (Vijaya) Knowing our future while remaining ever focused on the goal of moksha we will very soon be able to attain the goal of moksha (if we have the science of astrology to our rescue). Thus the science of astrology indirectly helps us in progressing quickly towards the goal of moksha. Also for people suffering in the world in sorrow, astrology will provide a temporary relief. This temporary relief will eventually be able to set them right in the spiritual path (without temporary relief all they will be focused will be on removing sorrows rather than on the goal of moksha). Thus it isn’t wrong to say that the science of astrology also helps us in eradicating or at least reducing sorrow in the future. It cannot be argued that is there any person who has predict the future to perfection – future is uncertain and it constantly is changed based on our actions but majority of people aren’t able to change the future due to their current actions. Therefore the future is set for majority of people and if the future is known, even to a little bit extent, then lot of calamities and problems can be avoided. Even while facing grave calamities people will be able to remain unaffected (at least to an extent) as they anticipate the calamities (and therefore are better equipped to deal with it). Though it is almost impossible to condense the vast science of astrology into just one magazine, still here the effort is bring out certain nuances of astrology so that it aspires sadhakas to take up this science. Through taking up this science, they will also be able to eventually progress in the spiritual path themselves and help others through the science of astrology. Ultimately bliss will be established in the world if at least few astrologers are there who are practicing the science of astrology in the right way and for the welfare of thet world. May we all strive to learn and practice the divine science of astrology so that we will be able to reduce or nullify the bad effects in the world and thereby we will be able to progress towards moksha; and attaining moksha we will be able to ever rejoice in bliss. Vetti yah vedaangam sa aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 4 Jyothisha Prakaasham Makara (Vijaya) Jyothisha Vivaranam Many times we come across horoscopes, which look good at first glance and show better prospects, but that does not reflect on the person and his life style. If we look deeper we see that the strength of planets giving the yoga is very weak and negligible. The degree of the planets is less than 3 degree. We shall analyse few horoscopes and see the effects of such planets as well as lagna. When planets or lagna are at 28, 29, 0, 1, 2 deg in a horoscope, the planetary strength is very less. It’s like a person who is standing at the edge of a house. It’s like a person is leaving the house almost and is right before the steps of the house either entering or exiting. Such people would not have any influence on the house or its members. Such locations are also called sandhi or border or the place where two houses meet. Generally such planets in bhava chart move to the next house. They cause an influence on both houses to an extent. If a planet or lagna is at 0 degree it means that it is as good as not existing. The value of planet is lost. The more the planet nears 0 or 30 the lesser its effects in the house it is located. The house owned by this planet in the given chart also suffers. We shall now see the effects of each planet at 0,1,2,29 deg in a house. Sun: Such people will lack knowledge or truth of the world and its existence. The father of the person may face serious problems. The vitality of the person will be lacking. Person will be lacking in enthusiasm and energy. Sun stands for power and position, this also will be lacking in life. Sun also is one of the eyes. So eye trouble can be there for this person. Person is likely to suffer from heart problem. Moon: Moon at these degrees in a house, makes a mind very fragile. Moon stands for mind or mental strength. Mind can breakdown for even slightest of disturbances. Natives get effected with small variations in life. They get effected if anyone says anything. They cannot withstand the difficulties in life. They can get into depression, lack self-confidence, easily effected by people and situation, highly fluctuating nature of mind. They are either highly emotional or lack all emotions. Mother of the child will also have many problems in life and Vetti yah vedaangam sa aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 5 Jyothisha Prakaasham Makara (Vijaya) most cases, they may be away from mother or the mother dies early in life. This can lead to eye problem as well. Chart 1 Analysis: In the above chart moon is in “1” degree and sun is in “0” degrees. The native has not cleared his papers and could not get a degree. The person is very much effected by this and hasn’t cleared his papers since couple of years. Moon is also afflicted by ketu and rahu and sun also is also in zero dege and opposite moon. Thus the person mind is very delicate and get into depressions and can go extremes. He is scared of failure and not mustering the courage to write the papers. He lacks self- confidence that he can pass again. But he goes around asking if he can pass the exam. Sun weak also made him weak in education and gaining knowledge of the subjects, we see see mercury is in 6th also denying the strength to study. 4th lord Jupiter is in 7th house, which is good but is afflicted by sun , moon, rahu and ketu. Thus his education is affected. Vetti yah vedaangam sa aapnothi paramam padam prathikoolanivaarakam mokshopakaarakam cha 6 Jyothisha Prakaasham Makara (Vijaya) Mother of this person might be suffering from serious ailments or may have undergone lot of difficulties in life. Chart 2 Analysis: In the above chart we see that venus is in “0” degrees.

DREKKANNA - THE D/3 CHART = DRESHKHAMSA Drekkana the D-3 chart = dreshkhamsha = a graphic representation of the placement of each radix graha into one of the 36 Drekkana BPHS Chapter 6: Shloka 7-8. Dreshkamsha: "One third of a Rashi is called Dreshkamsha. These are totally 36, counted from Mesha, repeating thrice at the rate of 12 per round. The 1st, 5th and the 9th Rashi from a Rashi are its three Dreshkhamsha and are, respectively, lorded by 1. Narada, 2. Agasthya 3. Durvasha." The meaning of the word DRESH – KANA DRESH mens seeing or visualizing objects which are apparent or hidden (obscure) in nature. KANA means corner or trine (Trikona). Therefore, Dreshkana represents the varga (division) where the signs, trine to each other, convey apparent as well as hidden personality and nature (swaroopa) of the native. Quotes From: David Frawley. the Astrology of the Seers, p. 186: "In this harmonic the first 1/3 or ten degrees 00° 00'-10° 00' of any sign ruled by itself. The middle 1/3,10° 00'-20° 00', is ruled by the subsequent sign of the same element. The last 1/3, 20° 00'-30° 00', is ruled by the final sign of the same element. For example, the first 1/3 of Sagittarius is in the harmonic third of Sagittarius, the second 1/3 in the harmonic third of Aries, and the last 1/3 in the harmonic third of Leo. Hence, if Saturn is located in a birth chart at 15° 20' Sagittarius, it would be in the harmonic third of Aries.

1 Jyotish vidya ( sage Parasara ) Chapter 1. The Creation 1-4. Offering his obeisance to all-knowing sage Parasara and with folded hands, Maitreya said, "O Venerable, Astrology, the supreme limb of the Vedas, has three divisions, viz. Hora, Ganita and Samhita. Among the said three divisions, Hora or genethliac part of astrology is still more excellent. I desire to know of its glorious aspects from you. Be pleased to tell me, "How this Universe is created? How does it end? What is the relationship of the animals born on this earth with the heavenly bodies? Please speak elaborately". 5-8. Parasara answered, O Brahmin, your query (so to say, the desire to know of the intricacies of astrology) has an auspicious purpose in it for the welfare of the Universe. Praying Lord Brahma and Sri Saraswati, His power (and consort), and the Sun God, the leader of the planets and the cause of Creation.
