Janak asks his family guru to invite Vishvamitra and princes to the ceremony. Janak’s vow is heralded and the kings try and fail to lift the bow. Ram holds the bow and snaps it into three pieces. Sita comes with a garland and drops it around Ram’s neck. Then there follows a long dialogue between Lakshman and Parshuram.

Janak’s messengers reach Ayodhya to deliver his letter to Dashrath. The news of Ram’s glory is passed on to all. The wedding procession leaves for Janakpur. The marriage ceremony is performed.

Dashrath expresses his desire to make Ram the Prince Regent. Elaborate arrangements are made for the coronation. Manthara goes to Queen Kaikeyi and argues that the installation of Ram will mean disaster for Kaikeyi and for her son Bharat. She convinces her to demand that Ram be exiled to the forest for fourteen years and Bharat be installed on the throne. Dashrath goes to see Kaikeyi and is stunned to hear that she is in the sulking house.
