Ever since his retirement from the Navy two years before, it seemed as though he needed to get a little high, or better, every day. After getting off work on September 21, 1977, in Berryville, Arkansas, Lloyd was on his way to visit his older sister in Okarche, Oklahoma. Next to the bottle of Jim Beam on the front seat was a loaded .22 Magnum pistol for shoot- ing jack rabbits on his sister's farm. Lloyd was driving a 1971 Ford Torino he had bought just the week before, paying $500 down.
