7 Sempre Ferrari 7/8 2007 FORMULA ONE VIEWING MONACO GRAND PRIX AT FERRARI Article By Photos By OF EWPORT EACH Tom Brockmiller Marshall Buck N B and Wally Clark and Blake Christian On Sunday, May 27th we were the guests of Ferrari of Newport Beach where we enjoyed their beautiful new Ferrari & Maserati showroom and watched the Monaco Grand Prix. While all F1 racing is exciting, this particular venue offers challenges beyond the norm with its tight street circuit. The first three grid starters finished in the same order as they started, rather typical for this race. They were Alonso, Hamilton and Massa, in that order with two McLarens and our beloved Ferrari as the podium finishers. Our gracious host, Bill Story, along with service man - ager Alan Woodard and Classiche manager John Amette were in attendance, as well as over 60 of our own membership. adorned the entire front parking lot from a few vintage to the newest 599 GTB’s. Amanda Thompson, marketing and retail director, offered a 10% discount on Ferrari regalia with good success. Our special thanks to her for being our liaison with the dealership. SF 8 9 Sempre Ferrari 3/4 2007 APRIL 22, 2007 EARTH DAY DRIVE TO OJAI Article By Photos By Event Co-Chairs Tino Mingori Participants Bob Boas and Tino Mingori

The Ferraris performed beautifully during their spirited gallop through the valleys and across the hills to Ojai, our destination for the day. Ferrari windshield wipers are rarely used, but on this day they did turn out to be rather handy. The event was advertised as the first ever Green Ferrari driving event. In keeping with this theme our excursion resembled a wet season drive arranged by the Ferrari Club of Ireland. We had mist, cool weather and some light rain. Nevertheless, our hearty group of participants seemed to enjoy themselves as Ferrari drivers generally do. After negotiating almost 170 miles of beautiful and challenging back roads, we arrived at the lovely Ranch House Restaurant on the outskirts of Ojai. People found their way to the inviting entrance, and it was time to relax to enjoy the company of the other drivers and passengers. The conversation at our table began to flow, but inevitably the following question had to be asked, “Can you tell us once again about the miles of sun drenched roads that were scheduled for this event?” Actually, some of our pre-drive hyperbole did refer to beautiful sunlight, gorgeous vistas and miles of trouble free driving. So much for truth in advertising. In our defense it would have to be said that there were numerous gorgeous vistas and also many miles of exciting trouble free driving. It was mainly in the sunlight department where we fell a bit short. Entrance to the Ranch House Restaurant. 10 Continued page 12 7 0 0 2 8 / 7 i r a r r e F e r p m e S 11 In addition to the much needed mist and rain, several other green features were included as part of this FCA Celebration of Earth Day. Each participant received a Compact Fluorescent Light bulb (CFL) that uses about 1/4 of the power of an incandescent bulb. Also, a small portion of each participants entry fee was donated to the CarbonFund (www.carbonfund.org), an organization that deals in carbon offsets. In this way the CO2 generated by 30 Ferraris motoring through the countryside was offset by contributions to support renewable energy sources (wind, solar) and biomass digestion (don’t ask). The green theme was rounded out by the presentation of a few prizes such as ’s personal copy of the Sierra Club Newsletter, a solar green turtle, a container of Simple Green, and a spray can of green automotive paint (guaranteed to make your Ferrari Green). The brunch at the Ranch House must be singled out for special praise. We were allowed to select from among seven tempting entrees, and the staff worked very hard to make us feel welcome. After a relaxing hour or two at the Ranch House, people were ready for a leisurely drive home. The issue of how much work would be required to clean up the cars could be put aside until another day. SF S 19 FCA SW CHALLENGES MOTHER NATURE ONCE AGAIN CORONA AIRPORT OPEN HOUSE Article By Photos By Don West Wally Clark, Tom Brockmiller and Marshall Buck

Last April, the FCA-SW golf outing started on a miser - able day of steady rain. By 10 A.M. the rain tapered off and we started what would become a great day and event. Our Corona Airport event had a beautiful sunny day combined with a 30 to 40 miles per hour cross-wind coming over the runway. Only 3 or 4 of the heavier planes would chance a take-off or landing. A beautifully restored Piper Cub took off, managing to stay right side up, but we never saw him again. He must have had a destination with a runway sans cross-wind. As in the past three Corona events, we were hosted by FCA’ers Fred Peters and Charles Betz. Over 45 Ferraris showed up, including several ’50s classics and racing road - sters. Almost every model from the 1950’s to the current Ferrari offerings were on display in the special parking area next to the runway. Over 85 people enjoyed a homemade Mexican buffet catered by the ever popular “Betsy ”. There was praise by all for the quality and quantity of the servings. Several pilots opened up their hangers for us to check out their beautifully restored planes which dated back to the 1940’s. The 150 people who attended this event all seemed pleased and asked to do it again in a couple of years. The FCA Southwest Region wishes to again thank From top: Fred and Charles for making this event possible with the Corona Airport’s front apron was filled with our Ferraris.
