01 OPERATION & SETTINGS

CAUTION – USE THE Wii REMOTE™ WRIST STRAP Feed the cord on the Wii Remote Wrist Strap through the Connector Hook. Insert the Nunchuk™ plug into the External Extension Connector on the bottom of the Wii Remote. Place your hand through the Wii Remote Wrist Strap and hold the Wii Remote firmly in your hand. Slide the strap lock up so that the wrist strap will not fall off your wrist. Do not over-tighten the strap lock so that it’s uncomfortable. It should just be tight enough to hold the Wii Remote Wrist Strap in place.

CAUTION: Always keep a firm grip on the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Use the Wii Remote Jacket (RVL-022) and the Wii Remote Wrist Strap at all times to prevent losing your grip on the Wii Remote and possibly causing damage to the Wii Remote and surrounding objects, or injury to other people. The Wii Remote Jacket will provide protection if the Wii Remote is accidentally thrown or dropped during game play. Please ensure there is sufficient distance from other people and objects when playing Wii™ games. Stop playing and dry your hands if they become sweaty or wet. The Wii Remote responds to minor movements so do not use excessive, rapid or wide swinging motions. Be sure to install the Nunchuk as described. Use the Connector Hook on the Nunchuk plug with the Wii Remote Wrist Strap cord to prevent the Nunchuk plug from becoming separated from the External Extension Connector on the Wii Remote and striking objects or people. WARNING: Not suitable for children under 36 months of age. The Wii Remote Wrist Strap and the cord of the Nunchuk can coil around the neck.

02 OPERATION & SETTINGS

Nunchuk™ Neutral Position Reset

NOTE: If the Control Stick is Control Stick moved out of neutral position when the power is turned on, or when connecting to the Wii Remote™, that position will be set as neutral position, causing incorrect game control during gameplay. To reset the Control Stick, allow it to return to the normal neutral position, then simultaneously hold down the A, B, Plus (+) and Minus (–) Buttons on the Wii Remote for three seconds. To prevent this from occurring, do not move the Control Stick when: • Turning on the Wii™ console • Plugging the Nunchuk into the Wii Remote • Starting Channels from the Wii Menu • Returning to the Wii Menu from games or Channels.

Optimising Your Settings To enhance your gameplay experience you can make use of the following features: Volume/Rumble – This game uses the Wii Remote™ Speaker and the Rumble function. To adjust the volume of the speaker or turn Rumble ON or OFF, do so on the Wii Remote Settings Option Screen accessible from the HOME Menu. Dolby Pro Logic II – This game supports surround sound using Dolby Pro Logic II. To use this sound setting, choose the SURROUND setting on the Sound Option Screen accessible from the Wii Settings Screen.

60Hz (480i) Mode Many people don’t know what the difference between 50Hz and 60Hz is, but since most modern TV models support 60Hz it’s Modes definitely worth finding out if your TV is compatible. In basic terms, Supported Hz (Hertz) is related to the number of frames per second (fps) appearing on your screen. 50Hz produces 25 fps and 60Hz produces close to 30 fps, which may not sound like a big difference, but the increase in quality from 25 to around 30 fps is quite noticeable on-screen. With 60Hz you get a smoother game screen with less flicker and the game running at optimal speed, all of which produces a great gaming experience.

03 OPERATION & SETTINGS 60 Hz (480i) Mode The default setting of the Wii™ console is 50Hz (576i) Mode. To change this, activate 60Hz (480i) Mode by selecting this TV TYPE in the Wii Settings. However, certain (mainly older) TV sets are unable to display games in 60Hz (480i) Mode, and therefore a small number of players could experience difficulties using this display mode on their TVs. To find out if your TV set fea- tures 60Hz (480i) Mode, consult your TV instruction manual or contact the manufacturer. If, after changing the setting to 60Hz (480i) Mode, the screen appears blank or distorted, it will likely be the case that your TV does not support 60Hz (480i) Mode. To revert to the default setting, press RESET on the Wii console while holding the down direction on the Control Pad, and the Wii system will restart in 50Hz (576i) Mode. For additional information on how to set the TV TYPE, please refer to the Wii Operations Manual – Channels & Settings. Also, when you connect the Wii RGB cable (RVL-013) (sold separately) to a TV which has an RGB terminal and PAL60 compatibility, or you connect the Wii Component AV cable (RVL-011) (sold separately) to a TV which has compo- nent video inputs, you can enjoy an intensely sharp picture on-screen.

EDTV / HDTV (480p) Mode – Progressive Scan EDTV / HDTV (480p) is a progressive display mode that allows play- ers to view and enjoy their game in the best possible quality. This means an intensely sharp picture, the game running at optimal speed with minimised flicker, all of which produces a great gaming experience. However, it may be the case that this mode cannot be displayed, depending on the combination of TV and cable that you use. To find out if your TV sup- ports the Progressive Scan display needed for the EDTV / HDTV (480p) Mode, consult your TV instruction manual or contact the respective manufacturer for details. Please make sure to use the Wii Component AV cable (RVL-011) (sold separately) and to enable Progressive Scan on your display device when selecting this mode. The default setting of the Wii™ is 50Hz (576i) Mode. To activate EDTV / HDTV (480p) Mode, please select this TV TYPE in the Wii Settings. For additional information on how to set the TV TYPE, please refer to the Wii Operations Manual – Channels & Settings.

04 OPERATION & SETTINGS Wii Remote™ Configurations • The Wii Remote can be used by itself, or in different configurations when connected up to other Wii™ accessories. These configurations can be used right or left handed. • The configuration will depend on the game you are playing. Review the appropriate section for the specific controller requirements.

Wii Remote™ – Vertical Position Wii Remote™ – Horizontal Position

Wii Remote™ and Nunchuk™ Wii Remote™ and Wii Wheel (sold separately)

12 FERRARI CHALLENGE SERIES

Ferrari, the Italian sports car manufacturer based in Maranello and , Italy, was founded by in 1929. It began manufacturing race cars for the track but moved into the production of street legal vehicles in 1947. With an emphasis on the best engineering possible and beautiful body design, Enzo Ferrari established a brand that became a true automotive legend, remaining at the top of its game for over 60 years. In 1993 the Ferrari Challenge Series was founded, allowing racing in a structured and competitive environment. With specially prepared race cars containing all manner of roll cages, fi re suppression systems and safety harnesses, the upper limits of machinery were pushed to the max around some of the best racing circuits in the world. The original choice of Challenge car was the 348 but there have been many more since with most of them playable in this game. The racers of the Ferrari Challenge series take their driving very seriously and the resulting action is close and competitive. Expect to fi ght for every position and to be shouting with delight whilst you’re doing it. In this game, the main weapon of choice is the awesome Ferrari F430 Challenge car. FLYING START From the initial screen, press the A button to get to the main menu. On the Main Menu select GAME MODE using the Control pad. Select the entry using the appropriate button A or 2 as explained on Page 9 to call up a list of available play modes. If you don’t feel confi dent with the controls, or how to race on a real track, then choose the TUTORIAL option. Alternatively, dive straight into QUICK RACE for instant action. Press UP & DOWN on the Control Pad to select an option. Once selected, the chosen mode will then load.

13 FLYING START If you chose TUTORIAL, TIFF NEEDELL, Le Mans Driver and TV personality, will be your instructor during a two lap session of Fiorano. Tiff will teach you how to manoeuvre your car and how to tackle each corner. He will also rate you on your ability, just like a real instructor.

If you chose QUICK RACE, you’ll be placed straight into the of a Ferrari F430 Challenge car. You can then choose to race on any of the currently unlocked race circuits. At the outset, four classic Italian circuits, , Misano, Vallelunga or the super-fast are unlocked. Once you have made your track selection an Options menu will allow you to specify the following race settings: Duration – 3, 5, or 7 Laps Conditions – Dry or Wet Grid Size – Full, Half or Vs (player versus one other car) Once you are happy, select DONE to be taken to the track for the race to begin.

Pay particular attention to the RACING LINE. With this function switched on, fi nding the quickest way around the track will become much easier. The colour of the intelligent, dynamic racing line reacts in real time to the speed your car is travelling, giving you a very handy guide. If the line glows red, you should be braking. As the line begins to turn yellow, start to feed the power back on. When it goes green, just let it go and fl oor it!

Good luck and keep it rubber side down!

14 FLYING START If you have entered a race or time trial and wish to adjust the car’s handling or need to retire, simply press the + Button. This will pause the action and provide a number of options on-screen which you can scroll through using the Control Pad. These are as follows:

CONTINUE ...... Continues the action. ASSISTS ...... Adjust the assist settings and transmission type of your car. GAME ...... Adjust rear view mirror, HUD and subtitle options. SOUND ...... Most circuits will need to be unlocked before you can race on them.

The Italian circuits of Mugello, Misano, Vallelunga and Monza are all available from the start of the game. These can be raced in Quick Race and Time Trial modes. Achieving a third place fi nish or higher in any Ferrari Challenge, Trophy Mode or Arcade Mode race will unlock that circuit for Quick race and Time Trial. NEW CARS

The Ferrari 430 is the offi cial car used in all 2007 Challenge Series races and it will be the only car you own at the beginning of the game. However, as you progress you will unlock a huge range of other Ferrari models.

30 NEW CARS Ranging from the legendary 250 GTO to modern classics such as the F355 Challenge and cutting-edge racing machines such as the FXX, you’ll be able to build the wildest selection of Ferrari cars you’ve ever seen.

Once a car is unlocked, they will become available to view in the Showroom. Here, they can be purchased to add to your personal collection or hired for a guest race if you don’t have enough credits to buy it outright.

The fi rst race in the Italian Challenge Season will unlock the Challenge, no matter where you fi nish. Buying this car will also allow you to race in the 348 Challenge Trophy event. Unlocking further Ferrari cars will depend on your race results in other Challenge, Trophy and Arcade races.

Below is a selection of the cars you can unlock from the Italian season:

•MONZA Finish Position ANY Ferrari 348 Challenge

•MISANO Finish Position 3rd or Higher Ferrari 348 TB

•VALLELUNGA Finish Position 2nd or Higher M

•PAUL RICARD Finish Position 1st Challenge ADVANCED FEATURES If you feel you are beginning to understand the handling characteristics of your Ferrari 430 Challenge car, then maybe it’s time to start delving into the technical world of ‘car set up’.

32 GAME PLAY HINTS Use the dynamic Racing Line to your advantage. It shows you the best way to drive around the tracks. It’s the most ideal of ideal lines. If you’re not sticking to it, you’re probably doing it wrong. In Tutorial Mode, pay close attention to Tiff Needell’s instruction and feedback during the session. With his experience, you know you can trust his judgement! Drive with caution at fi rst. Don’t aim for top speeds. Brake early for corners and accelerate late coming out of them until you can drive smoothly around the course without coming off or crashing. Then work on braking a little bit later and accelerating a little bit sooner, narrowing the gap over each lap. This slow but steady technique is the key to maximising your driving performance. Don’t worry – you don’t have to pay for the petrol! More hints and tips, along with information on all future System 3 releases can be found at: www.system3.com CREDITS
