Die XXVIII mensis Iulii anno MCCCCLXXX, magna classis Turcica in oram Hydruntinam appulit, potentissimo exercitu magnaque copia tormento- rum referta. Die V mensis Octobris anno MCMLXXX Decessor Noster beatus Ioannes Paulus II, quinta centenaria memo- ria illius eventus interveniente, martyrii locum peregrinus petiit, summopere martyrum memoriam veneraturus. Canonicae legis causa a die XVI mensis Februarii anno MCMXCI ad diem XXI mensis Martii anno MCMXCIII apud Curiam archiepiscopalem Hydruntinam dioecesana Inquisitio pro eorum martyrii ad Acta Francisci Pp. 345 formam comprobatione est acta, cuius validitas a Congregatione de Causis Sanctorum Decreto die XXVII mensis Maii anno MCMXCIV est agnita. Apud Romanum Dicasterium perfecto Processu, die VI mensis Iulii anno MMVII, Summus Pontifex Benedictus XVI Congregationis sententiam recepit ra- tamque habuit, facultatem faciens ut idem Dicasterium Decretum super martyrio evulgaret. Canonizationis causa Hydrunti, a die XXVII mensis Iulii anno MMX usque ad diem XVI mensis Aprilis anno MMXI, Venerabili Fratre Do- nato Negro Archiepiscopo Hydruntino moderante, dioecesana Inquisitio est constituta ad assertam sanationem cognoscendam, ipsamque beatis Antonio Primaldo ac Sociis adscriptam. Congregatio de Causis Sanctorum, die XXVII mensis Maii anno MMXII, Inquisitionis Hydruntinae iuridicam validitatem agnovit atque die XXVIII mensis Iunii anno MMXII Medici Consultores eiusdem Dicasterii decreverunt repentinam, completam, diuturnam, sub hodierna- rum cognitionum medicarum lumine inexplicabilem fuisse sanationem. Die XXII mensis Septembris eiusdem anni felici cum exitu Congressio Peculiaris Consultorum Theologorum est acta, atque subsequenti die XI mensis Decem- bris Patres Cardinales et Episcopi, in Sessione Ordinaria, hanc sanationem verum miraculum iudicarunt. Die XX mensis Decembris anno MMXII Summus Pontifex Benedictus XVI Decretum super miraculo foras emisit. Die XI mensis Februarii anno MMXIII Consistorium est factum, in quo Idem Summus Pontifex statuit canoniza- tionem die XII mensis subsequentis Maii actum iri: Hodie igitur in foro Petriano inter sollemnia hanc pronuntiavimus for- mulam: Ad honorem Sanctae et Individuae Trinitatis, ad exaltationem fidei ca- tholicae et vitae christianae incrementum, auctoritate Domini nostri Iesu Christi, beatorum Apostolorum Petri et Pauli ac Nostra, matura deliberatione praehabita et divina ope saepius implorata, ac de plurimorum Fratrum Nos- trorum consilio, Beatos Antonium Primaldum et Socios, Lauram a Sancta Catharina Senensi Montoya y Upegui et Mariam a Guadalupe García Zavala Sanctos esse deliberamus, decernimus et definimus, ac Sanctorum Catalogo adscribimus, statuentes eos in universa Ecclesia inter Sanctos pia devotione recoli debere. I bambini, i ragazzi cantano, lodano Gesù.

No 5517 YOUR NATIONAL CATHOLICwww.sconews.co.uk NEWSPAPER SUPPORTS THE YEAR OF FAITH Friday May 10 2013 | £1 IONA CALLS AS ANNIVERSARIES APPROACH The cradle of Christianity in Scotland at risk after cuts By Ian Dunn THE museum devoted to the first Christian settlement in Scotland may be forced to close within months after Dumfries and Galloway Coun- cil cut its funding. Bishop John Cunningham of Gal- loway said it was extremely ‘sad’ that the Whithorn Trust, which runs the Whithorn museum and visitor centre and promotes the archaeology and heritage of the site where St Ninian established a church in 397 AD, is facing an £18,500 shortfall that means it may have to close its doors in August. Bishop Cunningham, whose diocese holds an annual pilgrimage to Whithorn, said the trust did a ‘wonderful’ job. “As bishop of the Diocese of Gal- loway I am very aware of the important contribution that the Whithorn Trust has made in maintaining and promoting the traditions of Whithorn,” he said. “The area is such an important part of our Fr David Borland, parish priest at St Andrew’s, Dumfries, led 48 parishioners on pilgrimage to Iona to mark the 200th anniversary of their parish opening (see page 5), sup- Christian heritage, and the trust has done ported by Fr Joe Holmes of Annan. Their pilgrimage to Iona was extra special as it coincided with the Year of Faith and the upcoming 1450th anniversary of St Columba’s arrival a wonderful job of informing people and on the island. Bishop Joseph Toal was in Iona at the weekend with the Knights of St Columba ahead of the main 1450th anniversary celebrations in June (see page 3) helping them experience this tradition.

To my grandfather Ferdinando Tarquini whose memory is always alive in all those who knew him and loved him. 1 Baptism in early Christianity: A critical investigation of relevant Christian writings (80 – 325 A.D.) ABSTRACT This research project deals with the practice of the baptism in the early church and thus during the time of the origins of Christianity. Its main interest is to offer a substantiated answer to the following question: did the first generations of Christians baptize infants? The study dealt in-depth with this question. It is answered in terms of a thorough and accurate investigation of recognized and accepted translations of primary sources. The study comprises six chapters. The first chapter offers an introduction to the research and outlines the sources as well as the method employed in analyzing the early Christian literature. Chapter two entails an overview of New Testament information related to baptism and infant baptism. The New Testament is obviously the most fundamental document on the issue and provides useful indications on what was practiced in the early churches concerning the baptism of infants and children.

In introducing the Catholic Directory, it is our pleasing duty to reiterate our grateful thanks for the valuable assistance and in formation received from the Prelates and the Superiors of the Missions mentioned in this book. The compilation of the Catholic Direct ory involves no small amount of labour, which, however, we believe is not spent in vain, for the Directory seems to be of great use to many working in the same field. But We would like to see the Directory develop into a still more useful publication and rendered acceptable to a wider circle. This can only come about with the practical "sympathy and active co-operation of all ^ friends and well-wishers. We again give the Catholic Directory to ¿the public, knowing that it is still incom plete, but trusting that all and everyone will ¿help us to ensure its final success. ^ MADRAS, THE COMPILER* Feast of St. Agnes, 1 9 2 7 .
