CAMINO FORUM WALK DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

This 7 nights route brings you along the last 112 km (70 miles) of the Camino Frances - French Way into Santiago de Compostela.

DAY 1 - MAKING OUR WAY TO YOUR STARTING POINT OF THE CAMINO

Our driver will pick you up from Santiago airport at the agreed time to bring you to your first hotel in the iconic town of Sarria, where you will start your journey on the Camino the next day. You will be staying in Sarria’s old town 4* hotel where you will be able to relax and forget about the day’s transit at in the pool. In order for you to meet everybody participating in the Camino Forum Walk, we will organize a Welcome Cocktail including some tapas and wine or beer for the group in the hotel around 7pm before having dinner together. Night in 4* Hotel Alfonso IX.

DAY 2 - 22KM - WALK FROM SARRIA TO PORTOMARIN

Finally, the day we start the Camino Forum Walk! We will meet at reception after breakfast to head up the medieval staircase and start making our way together to Portomarin. Our first experience of the Camino is walking through easy paved trails through beautiful countryside, meadows and oak woods, charming villages with slate roofs and across a huge medieval bridge. Expect some steep uphill and downhill at some point today, but the beauty of the trail will make it up to you. At arrival in Portomarin, you will stay in the town’s 3* hotel, which used to be a Parador, and you will have free time to enjoy their pool or spa, your private balcony and stroll through the impressive archway village with it’s memorable church before dinner. Night in 3* Pousada de Portomarin www.ultreyatours.com ULTREYA TOURS [email protected] +1 917 677 7470

DAY 3 - 20KM - WALK FROM PORTOMARIN TO PALAS DE REI

Today, you will be walking a trail that has been protected by the Knights of the Order of Santiago since 1184. There will be some more uphill and downhill but mostly peaceful oak and eucalyptus forests and charming villages including Gonzar and Airexe. You will be staying tonight in a beautiful and luxurious Guest-House/ Galician Manor just outside the Camino 3-4 km before Palas de Rei. To shorten the long walking day, the hotel will pick us up from the Camino and bring us back to the same point the next day. Night in Casa Roan y Casa Grande

DAY 4 - 18KM - WALK FROM PALAS DE REI TO MELIDE

In the morning, we will walk the remaining kilometers into Palas de Rei, where we will stop to visit the town church and enjoy a coffee in the old town. We then have about 4h walk into Melide but we want to make sure to arrive in Melide in time for lunch (2pm in ). Melide is renown for having the oldest surviving cruceiro (calvary) in the world and for the best Pulpo a la Galega (Octopus) in . We will stay tonight in a unique spa-hotel with a Celtic inspired architecture by a lac where they will be able to enjoy a hydro-massage bath and a relaxing atmosphere. In both case, a taxi will pick us up from Melide to bring us to the guest-house and back the next day. Night in Hotel Balneario Rio Pambre

DAY 5 - 14KM - WALK FROM MELIDE TO ARZUA

After our transfer back to Melide, we will continue our journey through the peaceful Galician countryside. You will find by now the way you live the Camino is changing. As your body and feet are getting used to the activity, the path becomes gentler. Take it in and enjoy this time-off from your busy life to think, relax and interact with fellow pilgrims. You have done more than half of your journey but the best parts are still to come. We will be walking to Arzua, which is famous for its peculiarly shaped cheese, before being transfered to a stunning 500 years old Galician Mansion. Night in Casa Brandariz

DAY 6 - 19KM - WALK FROM ARZUA TO O PEDROUZO

After a short transfer back to Arzua, we will continue our way to O Pedrouzo. With only 40 km left from Santiago, you will notice the ambiance along the Way is changing as people plan to celebrate their arrival and start realizing it will soon be time to part with people they might have been walking with for a month. The countryside itself changes as you enter forest with totally symmetric rows that produce curious visual effects. The villages you pass virtually have no name and seem stuck in time. www.ultreyatours.com ULTREYA TOURS [email protected] +1 917 677 7470

In O Pedrouzo, we will ask the owner of a stunning XVII century Galician Manor to pick us up. Before dinner, you will have free time to visit the guest-house’s 64.000 m2 of land including it’s own functioning water-mill, orchard, horreo and a small chapel. Night in Pazo de Xan Xordo

DAY 7 - 20KM - WALK FROM O PEDROUZO TO SANTIAGO

After a drive back to O Pedrouzo, we will have 20 km left to walk before arriving at the of Santiago de Compostela, where the Apostle Saint James is buried. We will leave early as a long day awaits and to be able to enjoy as much time as possible in Santiago. On our journey today, we will cross Lavacolla’s river, where traditionally pilgrims would bath and clean their clothes - and hence purifying their soul - before stepping into the Cathedral. We will climb up Monte do Gozo (Mount of joy) which offers stunning views on the City before continuing downhill into the Medieval Town, which we will enter via the “Camino Door”. A few minutes later, we will finally pass the Azabachería Door, the official entrance to the Cathedral on a non-Holy year, and continue down to the Plaza del Obradoiro. You have finally finished the Camino de Santiago! You still have a few things to do this afternoon: checking into your hotel 150m away from the square, getting your pilgrim certificate & marvel at the architecture of our beloved City. At 19:30, the group will gather to attend the Pilgrim Mass, where we will have pre-booked the Botafumeiro ceremony. After Mass, around 9pm Ivar Rekve will join us for a farewell dinner and we will share our thoughts about the journey we just undertook together and how the Forum brought us together. Night in 4* Hotel San Bieito

DAY 8 - START OF YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE

A wise pilgrim once told us “the real Camino starts where the Camino de Santiago finishes but I will not be afraid because the Camino will always be there for me.” Today, as we bring you to your departure airport, we hope it has brought you whatever you were looking for and wish to see you again soon on the Camino! www.ultreyatours.com ULTREYA TOURS [email protected] +1 917 677 7470
