Teach Me Your Ways: A Spirituality of Time

An Advent Retreat Morning Saturday, November 25, 2017 – 9:30 am – 12 – Morgan Hall Presenter – Roger Pisani

More and more people are using online calendars to plan their lives. What if you could “go online” in a different way: making yourself available to the wisdom of God as a starting point for under- standing and using your time effectively? Sound impossible? People have been doing it for centu- ries to live to the fullest of joy, peace and personal effectiveness.

In this retreat, we’ll discover together the spiritual and Scriptural “roots of time” and a way of comprehending time that is actually “older than time itself”. We will then explore the Scriptures, the Advent season and the life of Jesus for insights into how to enter into a process of effective- ness that appears more like prayerful ritual than work.

Using practices inspired from holy listening along with some good visioning and planning, we can open ourselves to God's power and guidance as the source to make the most of the time given us.

ROGER PISANI serves as Director of Music & Liturgy at the Catholic Community of St. Peter in Point Pleasant Beach. He has over 30 years of experience in ministry, including parish, diocesan and cam- pus ministry. Roger is the co-founder and co-director of the Institute for Liturgical Formation, through which he has presented numerous workshops and retreats in the areas of liturgy, music, RCIA, catechesis and spirituality. He holds a Master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry and Liturgical Studies from Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology at Seton Hall University.

6 - 503 Adult Faith Formation Advent Scripture Series

Mary, the Disciple of Advent

Scripture Series – Two Choices – 10 am or 7 pm Presenter – Rev. Joseph DiMauro, OSFS

It seems that writers of the New Testament saw Mary as relatively unimportant. For them, Jesus was the central figure. He was the focus of all their attention and hopes. Mary was included only when something she did or experienced threw light on the person of Jesus.

Yet, Mary of Nazareth is one of the few women in the ancient world whose life story we know: as girl, mother, and mature woman. She was a Jewish peasant girl from a small village with a lot of courage, assertive at times, who experienced the ups and downs of any Jewish mother, and one of the few disciples of Jesus who stood by him to his horrible death on the cross. Let us get to know Mary, the Mother of God, the mother of all humanity, through some interesting lenses this Advent.

7 - 503 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Thirty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time In Praise and Thanksgiving! What a wonderful week it is before the Feast of Thanksgiving to pay attention to all the gifts God has given us, both individually and collectively. All of our gifts and talents belong to God. By using our gifts, we give praise and thanksgiving to God. In the parable of the master entrusting money to three servants, Jesus challenges us to do the best we can with what we are given, and not to be afraid of taking risks. Clearly, the parable of the talents in the Gospel and the passage from Proverbs exalting the special gifts of character remind us of the responsibility to use our gifts for the en- couragement and building-up of the Church and in the service we are called to give in the world.
