Through a lens of critical feminism, I further interpreted the interviewees’ experiences within the structural rules that might sustain the young ages and tiny body types of the participants. That split second when her body is sailing over the ice. That tiny moment where she's spinning through the air. It's over in a heartbeat. But Erin Scherrer loves it nonetheless. "Jumping is the closest thing I'll ever get to really flying," says the young figure skater. Watching her practise, it's easy to see just how much she loves her jumps. Loops, axels, flips, lutzes. The Waterloo teen banged them out one after another at RIM Park late last week. She hit each one with great speed, always getting good height. These jumps helped her win a bronze medal at RECORD S T AFF the junior national championship last season. I’m Jennifer Kirk, a former US ladies competitor and a three-time world team member. Dave: I’m David Lease. I’ve only ever done a layback spin in my socks in my kitchen, but I am a figure skating blogger and a current adult skater. Jenny: In this video, we’re gonna talk about the ladies event at the 2013 world championships, previewing it with Canadian journalist PJ Kwong. [PJ Kwong enters] Jenny: Let’s start with the reigning world champion, Carolina Kostner. Long program that has people talking this season. PJ, what is your impression of her long program, and coming in as the reigning world champion, how do you think she’s gonna handle that pressure? PJ: I think she’s gonna be world champion again. I love that Bolero program. I don’t think I’ve seen a better women’s program in I don’t know how long. In fact, it’s on my favorite – oh, let me just watch Carolina again. Even though she didn’t skate like perfectly at Europeans, I just think that it’s so innovative and so creative. I love it. And I think that everybody – she’ll have to skate. That’s the thing. There can’t be any mistakes. But if she skates like she can skate it, I think it’s hers to lose. That’s what I think. Jenny: Dave? I agree.

In Single and Pair skating all entered participants skate the Short Program. At the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships the best placed 20 Men and Ladies and 12 Pairs qualify for the final Free Skating. The Ice Dance competition starts with the Compulsory Dance, which all entered couples have to skate, the best 30 placed couples will continue the event with the Original Dance and at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships the best 12 placed couples qualify for the final Free Dance GENERAL RULES ISU Championships are held in accordance with the International Skating Union (ISU) Regulations. The ISU Judging System used at the Figure Skating events is the one adopted by the 2004 ISU Congress. It is constructed as follows: 1.
