Tours Around the Algarve
BARLAVENTO BARLAVENTO Região de Turismo do Algarve SAGRES TOUR SAGRES SAGRES TOUR SAGRES The Algarve is the most westerly part of mainland Europe, the last harbouring place before entering the waters of the Atlantic, a region where cultures have mingled since time immemorial. Rotas & Caminhos do Algarve (Routes and Tours of the Algarve) aims to provide visitors with information to help them plan a stay full of powerful emotions, a passport to adventure, in which the magic of nature, excellent hospitality, the grandeur of the Algarve’s cultural heritage, but also those luxurious and cosmopolitan touches all come together. These will be tours which will lure you into different kinds of activity and adventure, on a challenge of discovery. The hundreds of beaches in the Algarve seduce people with their white sands and Atlantic waters, which sometimes surge in sheets of spray and sometimes break on the beaches in warm waves. These are places to relax during lively family holidays, places for high-energy sporting activity, or for quiet contemplation of romantic sunsets. Inland, there is unexplored countryside, with huge areas of nature reserves, where you can follow the majestic flight of eagles or the smooth gliding of the storks. Things that are always mentioned about the people of the Algarve are their hospitality and their prowess as story-tellers, that they are always ready to share experiences, and are open to CREDITS change and diversity. Critical Analysis of Interventions in Historical Rammed-Earth Walls—Military Buildings in the Ancient Kingdom of Seville
Rammed Earth Conservation – Mileto, Vegas & Cristini (eds) © 2012 Taylor & Francis Group, London, ISBN 978-0-415-62125-0 Critical analysis of interventions in historical rammed-earth walls—military buildings in the ancient Kingdom of Seville J. Canivell & A. Graciani Seville University, Seville, Spain ABSTRACT: Despite the general acceptance regarding the interest of dealing with heritage interventions using specialized approaches, thanks to the Charter of Krakow, actions on historical rammed earth walls are to often undertaken without support from any preliminary critical assessment. Hence, in recent dec- ades, this has contributed towards the generation of a wide disparity of intervention criteria and technical solutions. This paper addresses a critical analysis of interventions carried out over a specific period of time on military buildings of the ancient Kingdom of Seville. Prior recording and cataloguing of interven- tions was carried out in order to propose criteria for their value, in terms of their adaptation to formal and technical interventions characteristics. 1 INTRODUCTION selected, it was intended to cover the maximum number of constructive techniques and states Andalusia possesses a long military heritage as a of conservation, so that conclusions would be result of its ancient territorial and political struc- stronger and could be extrapolated to include a ture, consisting of towers, castles and city walls, variety of geographic locations. which have been restored over the last 7 years Specifically, this study takes the following under the framework of the Andalusian Plan of building as case studies: the Castle of Alcala de Defensive Architecture (PADA), designed and Guadaira, Castle of the Guardas, Alcazar of the developed by the Dirección de Bienes Culturales City Gate to Seville (Carmona), Hacienda de de la Junta de Andalucía. -

De Miranda Do Douro Ao Sabugal – Arquitectura Militar E Testemunhos Arqueológicos Medievais Num Espaço De Fronteira
Nova Série, Vol. XXIX - XXX, 2008 - 2009 DE MIRANDA DO DOURO AO SABUGAL – ARQUITECTURA MILITAR E TESTEMUNHOS ARQUEOLÓGICOS MEDIEVAIS NUM ESPAÇO DE FRONTEIRA Mário Jorge Barroca* RESUMO: Estudo da evolução da ocupação humana de uma vasta área territorial na fronteira Leste de Por- tugal, compreendida entre Miranda do Douro e o Sabugal, entre a Alta Idade Média e os inícios do Séc. XVI. Apesar da atenção ter sido focada na evolução das estruturas militares, não foram esquecidos outros testemunhos (arqueológicos, toponímicos e documentais) que ajudam a traçar a evolução deste território de fronteira. Palavras-chave: Povoamento altimediévico, Povoamento islâmico, Reconquista cristã, Castelos ABSTRACT: The author analyses the medieval evolution of a vast area in the east frontier of Portugal, between Miranda do Douro and Sabugal, from the Early Middle Age to the beginning of the 16th century. Although the main attention is centered in the evolution of military structures, other testimonies of the medieval occupation are also mentioned in this paper. -

We ask you to spend a few minutes to carefully read this house information book, which contains useful information. Here is a summary of the most important points: SECURITY: Do not leave money, passports or valuables in purses or handbags lying around the villa. If the villa has a safe, we recommend that you use it, but please read the page on security in the book. MOSQUITOES AND ANTS: are both a very common nuisance. Please read the paragraphs in the book and take the necessary precautions. The sun umbrellas are only for villa use and NOT for the beach. Please do NOT put sun bed mattresses in the pool. Please do NOT take indoor furniture to the outside. TOILETS: Please ensure that only toilet paper is put down the toilet. TOWELS: Please do NOT use bathroom towels for the pool or beach.
