Job Purpose

This executive-level position has broad responsibilities for the planning, development and administration of the College’s educational programs and services. As Chief Academic Officer of the College, the Provost provides and ensures academic integrity in the areas of academic program development, curriculum, evidence-based , and organizational effectiveness; develops and oversees academic policies and instructional delivery in support of the College’s vision. The Provost provides leadership, vision, direction and strategic planning for the College’s comprehensive array of student affairs.

The Provost directs the work of the Vice Provost, Academic Affairs, Vice Provost, Workforce Programs, Assistant Vice Provost, Online Learning, Assistant Vice President, Institutional Research, Assessment and Effectiveness, and Vice Provost, Student Affairs and their leadership team which promotes the effective interrelationship between academic affairs, student affairs, and educational assessment. The Provost consults with members of the teams on issues affecting academic affairs and student affairs and works collaboratively to ensure that the College meets its enrollment management goals. As a member of the President’s executive leadership team, the Provost participates in strategic planning, policy formation, budgetary decisions and problem solving, offering advice and counsel to the president related to academic and student affairs. This is an executive on annual contract position.

General Responsibilities Essential Functions

Actively participates as a member of the President’s leadership executive team and assists the president and other senior managers in achieving priority institutional objectives.

Oversees and guides the creation and implementation of annual operational plans for academic student affairs leadership teams and assists Vice Provosts in achieving priority institutional objectives; evaluates progress toward goals and objectives.

In collaboration with the Vice Provosts prepares the annual budgets for the respective divisions in line with the College’s strategic priorities.

Page 1 of 4 PROVOST Ensures the activities of academic and student affairs meet the requirements of the College’s accrediting and licensing agencies.

In cooperation with academic and student affairs leadership teams, formulates and proposes policies, subject to Presidential and District Board of Trustee approval concerning all facets of academic and student affairs. Ensures adherence to all state and/or federal requirements.

In collaboration with the Assistant Vice President, Institutional Research, Assessment and Effectiveness, oversees the systematic and routine assessment of all College programs and services; measures and plans continuous improvement.

Serves on the Intercollegiate Athletics Compliance Review team that report academic standards for student athletes, athletic policies and procedures, operating budgets, and recruiting standards for the President’s review and approval each semester. Collaborates with the Vice Provost of Student Affairs and the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics to ensure the President has ultimate responsibility for an exercises appropriate control over the institution’s intercollegiate athletics program.

Ensures the College offers an inclusive environment that celebrates and promotes understanding and respect within a diverse student body, staff and community. Creates an environment that supports faculty and staff professional development.

Provides leadership to the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, Vice Provost of Workforce Programs, and Assistant Vice President of Online Learning by advocating and promoting quality instruction and effectively overseeing and monitoring faculty-developed curriculum to meet the educational needs of students in a diverse College environment.

Serves as the liaison to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC). Collaborates with appropriate College leadership and academic units to ensure successful accreditation with SACSCOC and program level accrediting agencies. Ensures the activities of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs meet the requirements of the College’s accrediting and licensing agencies.

Maintains compliance with the terms of the Collective Negotiations Agreement between the College and the faculty union; participates in the negotiating process by assisting in the formation of negotiating strategy, formulating proposals and counterproposals and advocating management’s position.

Works with the President, Vice Provosts, and the School Deans to develop advisory boards to assist in identifying the educational needs of the College and the community. Works effectively with all constituencies of the College and the community.

Establishes and supports a culture within the Academic Affairs and Student Affairs divisions, and Institutional Research, Assessment and Effectiveness that is committed to the success of students through administrative excellence and accountability, creativity, leadership, cooperation and teamwork.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Qualifications

A terminal degree earned from a regionally accredited institution of .

An extensive record of progressively responsible experience in senior academic leadership roles at regionally accredited institutions of higher education. Preference given to those candidates with experience at both associate degree-granting and baccalaureate degree-granting institutions.

A significant record of full-time collegiate teaching experience, research and service commensurate with the attainment of senior academic rank in a higher education institution.
