The African-American Culture Club (AACC) was re-established as the SHADES of U.S. Club in recognition of the fact that the African-American Culture Club grew to include not only African-Americans students, but also students from Nigeria, Egypt, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Dominican Republic, Brazil, Morocco, and more than 15 other countries. SHADES of U. S. more accurately reflects the diversity, cultures, hence “shades” of not just the club members, but of the larger student body of Piscataway High School. SHADES draws upon a key strength of PHS, the diversity of our student body and school community. Built by students to learn about other cultural backgrounds and perspectives and while working together to perform service projects to improve their school and community, participate in and create programs to enhance awareness, acceptance and inclusiveness throughout PHS. The Animation Club was established to give students an opportunity to learn and practice some of the computer animation programs we have in the Digital Lab. Students who are currently in an Animation class or have taken Animation classes are welcome along with any serious animators who are thinking of going to Art school but are not in a class. Students may use the club to expand their skillset and build a portfolio which could be used for college applications. Members are encouraged to share ideas and their productions with the rest of the club. Animation showcases occur each Marking Period and allow students to exhibit their work.

Barcelona Exchange Program Director: Ms. Herrera RM 178

Students travel to Barcelona, Spain & stay with pen pals from our Sister School, El Colegio Sagrada Familia. Later, that same pen pal will come & stay with you & your family in Piscataway. Participants experience complete Spanish language & culture immersion. Not only do they visit museums & landmarks, but they also get to see daily life of a high school student in Spain through their school, friends & family. For the 2nd half of the program, participants & their families are able to show their pen pal American culture & our way of life here in Piscataway. Open to students in 10th grade & up and for students at least in Spanish 3 or higher, or who have equivalent Spanish abilities

In this society, the members will engage in discourse, debates, and much more concerning the African Diaspora and African Americans. We will try our very best to inform all members about very important topics in black culture. We will also actively engage students in career opportunities, field trips, and lectures from successful black men and women in different fields (careers). We plan to support the members in their future careers, academics, and give them an outlet (safe place) to discuss topics that concern them individually/personally.

Book Club Advisor: Ms. Memoli Meets during HR2 Media Center

The PHS Book Club is a student-run club, open to anyone who likes to read. Club members will not read the same book, but a book from the same genre every month. The genre will be different from month to month, and hopefully, this will encourage members to read outside of their favorite areas. Various authors and book genres will be discussed. If you love reading and are interested in sharing what you’ve read, then this club is for you! The Book Club meets as a specialty homeroom during homeroom 2. Club members are encouraged to also volunteer in the Media Center and with any fundraising activities.

Career Association is a newly introduced club focused on helping the student body with career oriented meetings. Our main goal is to provide students with more information on many career fields that they may be interested in pursuing and expose them to a wide variety of careers. Also we aim to educate our members on how to apply for opportunities such as scholarships and internships. This club is for anyone that wants to gain more knowledge about the real world and we want to help students shape the path they choose.

Chemistry I is one of the teams in the New Jersey Science League. Chemistry I is offered to students who are in a first year high school chemistry class. The team meets on Thursdays after school to learn various chemistry topics ranging from the atom to thermo chemistry. The New Jersey Science League then tests each student once a month starting in January and ending in April. Based on the results of these tests, the students and the team get ranking compared to other high schools throughout the state.

The Chiefs Dance Team is an ensemble of talented and dedicated dancers whose mission is to promote school spirit, while entertaining an audience. Dancers on CDT train in all styles of dance, with an emphasis on jazz and street styles. CDT performs at all home varsity football games, varsity basketball games and many other district events throughout the year. The Chieftain is the high school's newspaper website that is produced in conjunction with the Journalism class. Students involved in producing the Chieftain take on every aspect of a journalist, including gathering information through interviewing, writing news stories, features, editorials, entertainment articles, and sports stories. Additionally, members of the Chieftain also create the layout and appearance of the website, so artists, photographers, and webmasters are also encouraged to get involved to help produce the website.

Chiefs for Christ is a club that meets for the purpose of fellowship. We represent a part of the Christian population of Piscataway High but are not the only Christians at the high school. We promote and study the Word of God, pray, worship and discuss religious and moral issues in order to strengthen our faith. We also have guest speakers come in to lead the group on certain current topics. In the past, we have worked with the National Honor Society to prepare Easter Baskets for Elijah’s Promise in New Brunswick. We have an annual opening party to start the new school year where all students are invited to meet with members.

Computer Science Club aims to bring Computer Science Education to every student in the high school. The GenEn Club is designed to introduce high school students to modern molecular genetics by having them conduct genuine research projects. It involves an intensive multi-week program at the Waksman Institute over the summer (for the WSSP Student Scholar only) and then continues throughout the school year with regular meetings to discuss research progress and culminates with a poster presentation of findings at Rutgers University in Piscataway. The current project focuses on the genomic sequence analysis of Duckweed Landoltia punctata and how its genes compare with other species. Students first isolate and then sequence the organism’s genes and this information is deposited in the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) for use by scientists throughout the world. Using the gene sequence information, students compare the evolutionary relationship between L. punctata and other Eukaryotes.

GirlUp, a United Nations student organization, is dedicated to working towards creating a better future for girls growing up in developing nations. Club members raise awareness about issues concerning these young women through fundraising events. The club goal is to help create a world where no matter who "she" is or where "she" lives, every girl has a chance to safety, a childhood, an education, a family, and more.

The Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is a student-run club which provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression, and work to end homophobia and transphobia. The Gay-Straight Alliance Club is open to ALL students regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The GSA is a forum for students to come together and discuss issues that affect the school community and participate in activities that address social justice issues and promote equality in our school. Piscataway’s GSA organizes and participates in various campaigns such as Ally Week, National Day of Silence and the Week of Respect. This club is open to all students.

The Health and Wellness Club is supported by the FUEL Up To Play 60 and the NFL. It's to promote healthier lives for students, and healthy choices in nutrition, and making changes in our wellness center. HOSA is an international student organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Health Science Education (HSE) Division of ACTE. HOSA's two-fold mission is to promote career opportunities in the health care industry and to enhance the delivery of quality health care to all people. HOSA's goal is to encourage all health science instructors and students to join and be actively involved in the HSE-HOSA Partnership. HOSA provides a unique program of leadership development, motivation, and recognition exclusively for secondary, postsecondary, adult, and collegiate students enrolled in health science education and biomedical science programs or have interests in pursuing careers in health professions. The International Club of Cultural Arts, better known as the “ICCA” Club was created over 30 years ago with the purpose to promote unity and awareness of diversity within our school and community. The ICCA is one of the largest clubs at PHS (90 members). The club allows our students to take pride on who they are and gives them the opportunity to participate in different activities that not only promote their cultures and backgrounds, but also teach them about other cultures in Piscataway High School.

Italian Club Advisor: Adele Marra-Gersbeck Meets on Wednesdays and/or Thursdays (specific dates TBD) Room: D275 2:00-3:00 pm The Italian Club seeks to provide all interested students the opportunity to explore the Italian language by examining its culture, customs, and celebrations. Students are exposed to native speakers, by connecting to Italian communities, both here and in Italy. Through these authentic experiences, students gain a better understanding of the true Italian culture, as well as develop a lifelong appreciation for everything Italian.

Key Club: Key Club is an international student-led organization which provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership. At Piscataway High School the Key Club provides service to our homes, school and community.

The Piscataway High School Math League is open to students in grades 9 through 12. Participation in Math League broadens a student’s critical reasoning skills by solving challenging math problems. It extends a student’s knowledge of math beyond the traditional high school curriculum by exposing the student to concepts such as different number bases and modular math. It offers students the opportunity to demonstrate their math skills in a competitive environment. It also provides opportunities to communicate mathematically with students from other high schools in Central Jersey. The PHS Math team has finished in the first place category for 17 consecutive years in the American Scholastic Math League.

Description: Med Club was established to give students an opportunity to learn about the various careers in the healthcare field. We have created a hub for students to engage and grow in their desired career fields. During the year we hope to invite multiple guest lecturers who will discuss their field of study. We will also take some time to review the application process for various medical programs. Students will fundraise for a charity and attend trips to the local Nursing homes and hospitals.

Mock Trial Coach: Mrs. Kelly Meets Weekly on Wednesdays Room F105 2 – 3 pm

The Mock Trial team competes in county and state Mock Trial competitions. Students are given roles of either lawyer or witness and develop strategies for how to argue the case from both sides. Our team then competes with teams from other schools at the Middlesex County Courthouse in New Brunswick. This is a great team for you if you are a strong public speaker, great at developing logical arguments, enjoy acting, and/or are interested in a future in the legal profession.

The National Honor Society for Dance arts (NHSDA) is a program of the National Dance Education Organization (NDEO), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting standards of excellence in dance education. The mission of the NHSDA is to promote and honor outstanding dance achievement in middle and high school level students (11 – 18 years of age). Furthermore, NHSDA seeks to encourage well- rounded dance artists to become leaders in their communities after high school graduation. The PHS chapter of NHSDA rehearses and performs throughout the year, and holds an induction of new members in the spring.

PEGS: Piscataway Exceptional Gathering of Students (PEGS) PEGS is a partner program for students with special needs and their typical peers. The group meets throughout the school year for fun and social events to promote friendship, acceptance and understanding.

The PHS Debate Team is open to all students in all grade levels. Over the course of 3.5 months, the team prepares to debate a series of burning ethical issues relating to technology, science and society at the High School Ethics Bowl in early December and, if successful, the National High School Ethics Bowl in North Carolina in the Spring. Students will build comradery while working on presentation, listening, speaking and researching skills. All while having a lot of fun.

This club has the goal of making Piscataway High School a more beautiful place. The club meets once every seven day cycle during homeroom. We do things like clean up trash around campus, plant flowers, design and paint hallway murals, and advocate for improvements to bathrooms. We also want to improve school atmosphere by encouraging positive peer-to-peer interactions. This is a great club for you if you are interested in making PHS a better, more beautiful place.

Piscataway Gives Back (PGB) Advisor: Amani Shallan Meetings every other Wednesday (Twice a month) Location: Patton Building Room 120 Time: 2:00-3:00

Piscataway Gives Back is an opportunity for people to come together and give back to those who need it most. These include promotion the creation and coordination of events and directing funds towards causes we care about, with events ranging from small bake sales to bigger community-wide fundraisers. The inspiration for this club is the Sean Hanna Foundations for Pediatric Cancer located here in Piscataway, directed toward a strong young boy who left behind a legacy we intend to honor. PGB stands as a safe space for new freshman, which is something that differentiates us from others. We understand little guidance and support to the new class and we sincerely want to make a change. Everyone, regardless of their experiences or grade level will be able to contribute to the fullest and get as involve as they would like, something that is difficult to find elsewhere.

The Piscatorama Yearbook staff work all year long to produce a book filled with memories of the student’s high school years. The staff work long hours making contributions to meet deadlines and create an unforgettable book. Staff members create layouts, write stories and captions, and choose pictures to be included on the pages.

PWAY P3 (Poets, prophets, performers) Advisor: Christopher Hamas Meets Wednesdays Room D239 2:00-3:00 pm

Pway P3 provides an open, encouraging, and non-judgmental forum for creative, original expression. Club members share poems, create more, practice, performance, critique and coach one another, and have performances for the school and community.

PWAY 50 STRONG Advisors: Mr. Viney, Ms. Nazaire, Mr. Kiang, & Mr. West The program meets every Wednesday during HR 1 and 2 (group). Peer mentors meet with their mentees individually on Thursdays during HR 1and 2 at the students class.

A peer to peer group based mentoring program which matches underclassmen with influential upperclassmen. The mission of the program is to improve academic and life outcomes for student members at PHS. Programming goals are focused on providing mentees and mentors with resources that assist with college and career planning, academic support, and building social and emotional wellness.

PWAY PAWS Advisor: Christopher Hamas Meets Thursdays Room D239 2:00-3:00 pm

Pway Paws is a pet friendly organization. The goal of its members is to help animals in need, provide community service opportunities, and promote well-being for students and animals alike. The club fundraises, donates time and money to animal shelters, and ultimately, tries to find more animals loving homes.

The Science National Honor Society recognizes high scientific achievement and gives back to the community in a quest to further scientific thought among students at Piscataway High School and in Piscataway Township Schools. We intend to provide scientific lectures from both past and present students of Piscataway High School. We also provide outreach to the community through an annual science fair and a science tutoring service available to high school students. In addition, our chapter will organize events in the elementary and middle schools in our district. Membership is solely open to exceptional junior and senior students, and is application based.

The Spanish Club provides students with the opportunity to explore the Spanish language and culture in a diverse and casual environment. Throughout the year we’ll experience different products and practices of Hispanic Culture such as movies, music, dance, art, food and games. We also serve as the welcoming committee to the visiting students of the Barcelona Exchange Program by planning different activities and hosting an orientation breakfast and school tour. Students do not need to be enrolled in Spanish class to participate in this club.

The Student Government Association (SGA) is open to all active students of PHS and works to increase student participation in school events, increase the sense of community within Piscataway High School, promote civic responsibility and leadership skills through community service projects. Throughout the year the SGA plans and organizes various activities such as the pep rally, School Spirit Week and the Homecoming Dance. SGA members also serve as ambassadors to the Board of Education and community, helping to communicate student achievements throughout the community.

The Ultimate Frisbee club is comprised of students looking for a fun sport that prides itself on playing in a fair and spirited way. In this club we learn about the basics of the sport and play at least once a week. If you are looking for an up and coming sport in a relaxed atmosphere; this club is for you.

Upcoming Freshman Involvement (UFI) Advisor: Shirley Aviles Meetings: Monthly Anthony Counseling 2 – 3 pm

The club focuses on increasing communication with 8th graders and current high schoolers with hopes of preparing them for the transition to high school. Our main goal is to better help them to prepare for high school over a period of time so they won't be overwhelmed once they arrive to PHS. From UFI, they'll be learning more about the certain classes they can take here at the high school, various clubs, as well as other programs such as the various academies provided by PHS. Along with that, they can better understand expectations and regulations of our school. Communication with the middle schoolers will happen through the various NJHS groups and hopefully they'll be able to spread the information to their fellow peers.

Video Gaming For Charity Advisors: Mr. Soin Meets: Every Monday Room: D 222 2 – 3 pm

The Video Gaming for Charity is for anyone who enjoys playing video games and would like to participate in tournaments to win prizes while also donating to charity. In the club, members will pay to participate in weekly tournaments that will raise money to go to a specific charity. Games and charities will also be changed regularly. Students do not have to pay in order to be members and can earn volunteer hours by helping with the tournament set-up or other activities.

World Language Honor Society Advisors: Veronica Ber, Sylvia Guensch, Adele Marra-Gersbeck Meets Every 3rd Wednesday of the month (once a month) Room: Anthony Commons 2:00-3:00 pm

The mission of World Language Honor Society is to recognize the extraordinary achievement of students who study French, Italian, and Spanish. The WLHS promotes the importance of acquiring a second language through cultural celebrations and community service. Students must be in 10th grade and taking a level 3 language course or higher. In order to join, students must complete an application with specific grade, dues and service requirements in order to be considered for induction. WVPH Radio Club Advisor: Mr. Nowak Meets Once a Month and the Day of Your Show Radio Station

WVPH Radio Club gives students an opportunity to learn and experience radio broadcasting. It provides them with the opportunity to learn the station equipment while practicing audio production techniques. They host their own live radio show over the air. Club members will also work with audio production programs to learn the basic audio editing. The Club also has the opportunity to remote broadcast school events, with a main focus on sports. We also perform the public service of keeping the community of Piscataway informed of upcoming events and news in the area. This provides original community programming on matters that affect the communities surrounding us.
