Robert J. Boyd Sports Editor

Social Justice Week is a time to reflect on progressive ideas, that the pursuit of happiness should be available to all no matter what. Whether it’s a physical or especially a mental illness, disease should not preclude someone from being a productive member of society. Judge Ginger Lerner-Wren is a pioneer of social justice, having established the mental health court to assist people in need of help instead of imprisoning them. Friday, Jan. 20 of 2017, was a momentous day in American history. We gathered around in our homes, offices and in Washington, D.C. to watch president-elect Donald J. Trump, officially take office. Trump is now the 45th President of the United States of America and it is time for our great country to reap the benefits of his promised change. Within the first minute of his speech, Trump reaffirmed the switch of powers. From government to citizens and it was a wonderful thing to hear. “We are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and Donald J. Broward College Central Campus is working quickly to improve the overall look and feel of the campus. One of the changes students may notice when walking from building to building is the updating of the sidewalks. The roads are being repaved making a far more even and smooth area. In the quad near Buildings 1 and 2 is the life size chess board which has been a staple and always draws students in for a game. Originally, the chess pieces were wood and bulky and a held water when they were rained on. Now, the pieces have transformed from wood, to iron framed pieces which are thin, water resistant, and far easier to play with. Another update is Building 2. The front has been given a face lift and will give one of the oldest campus buildings a more modern look. Central Campus, is just one of the campuses that is being refurbished. Keep an eye out for the latest modifications around campus! South Campus As the new year began, students flocked to their classrooms along South Campus’s newest walkway. Accommodating the much-needed gap between Building 69 and Building 66, a walkway was constructed to make access easier and more efficient. Trees were planted and benches placed along the new walkway, to give the campus a more connected feel. With the full utilization of the new science Building (66) a convenient walkway was necessary. Previously the only way to get to the science building’s entrance was to walk on a long indirect roundabout path. Students gave their feedback requesting a new walkway be constructed that would conveniently bridge Building 66 with the rest of the campus, and thankfully the facilities staff delivered.
