Jaromír Švejdík alias Jaromír 99 has divided his life between music (Priessnitz, Umakart and Kafka bands) and visual art. Expressive comics handwriting is quite close to the aesthetics of the noir film or pop art. His graphical novellete is based on the famous unfinished novel by Franz Kafka – The Castle. Recapitulation of the Czech comics history in ten chapters, through historical and social connotations and that which has, in between, happened in a different place. The exhibition illustrates the origin of a theatrical costume, from its design up to its resulting shape on the stage. From the initial euphoria, idea, director’s interpretation, a number of sketches and drawings, selection and combination of materials, pattern books and different stylisations up to the final costume in which the actor acts on the stage. The exhibition presents flat costume designs and selected theatrical costumes from the collections of the Museum of the Theatre Institute from more or less known stagings in Slovak professional theatres, across the regions and developmental periods of theatrical costume.

    4 63 • 2015 ESSAY JEWISH COMMUNITY MUSEUM AS A RESULT OF CITIZEN ACTIVITIES PETER SALNER PhDr. Peter Salner, DrSc., Institute of Ethnology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Klemensova 19, 813 64, e-mail: [email protected] The study focuses on circumstances under which the Jewish Community Museum was established and officially opened in the Bratislava synagogue in 2012. Already prior to WWII, a respected architect and collector Eugen Barkány came with the idea of opening a museum consisting of Slovak judaica. He followed up his project after the liberation, too. In the second half of the sixties, it seemed that thanks to the Jewish Religious Community (JCR/ŽNO) Bratislava support there would be created a Slovak branch of the Prague Jewish Museum within the premises of the Neolog Bratislava synagogue. However, the project implementation had to be postponed for many years to come: first of all due to Bárkány’s death (1967), demolition of the sy - nagogue giving place to the construction of a new bridge, and the occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1968. In the beginning of the next millenium, it was Maroš Borský, Art historian and Judaist , who undertook this project. He persuaded the board members of the JCR (ŽNO) Bra - tislava to vacate the already abandoned female gallery of the only preserved synagogue for presentation of Barkány’s collection. Apart from the permanent exhibition, the museum already offered three exhibits entitled: The Shadow of the Past (2013); We Are Here (2014); and Engerau – a Forgotten Story of Petržalka in 2015.     Reports/Opinions REPORTS/OPINIONS Dušan MAGDOLEN The Ancient Egyptian Coffin in the Slovak National Museum: a preliminary research report. (Plates 1 – 2) In the collections of the Natural History Museum of the Slovak National Museum in Bratislava there is a precious and unique artefact from ancient Egypt: a mummiform coffin,1 which by means of acquisition is related to the mummy located inside. The Institute of Oriental Studies of the Slovak Academy of Sciences initiated an Egyptological examination of this artefact and with the abovementioned museum signed a written contract on mutual cooperation, the aim of which is the detailed scholarly examination and evaluation of the artefact. The preciousness and uniqueness of this coffin is based on the fact that of all the ancient Egyptian artefacts in state collections in Slovakia, this artefact has a rich textual decoration with the widest range of hieroglyphic inscriptions. Upon the basis of information known thus far, in the 19th century the coffin and mummy were brought from Egypt to be part of the private collection of curiosities and antiquities of Dr Daniel Schimko, a Protestant priest and a native of today’s Podlužany, who later on taught at the Theological Faculty in Vienna. In his testament he bequeathed his collection to the Evangelical Lyceum in Bratislava. After the Second World War the coffin and mummy came into the possession of the Slovak National Museum (SNM). The coffin and mummy were examined in the 1970s by Czech scholars, who were researching ancient Egyptian artefacts in the former Czechoslovakia.2 The Egyptological examination of the coffin from the Natural History Museum of the SNM was undertaken by Miroslav Verner.

Taktiež sa podarilo nadviazať spojenie s André Steinerom, žijúcim v Atlante, USA a nájsť stopu dokumentácie doposiaľ neznámeho diela Otta Eislera. Cieľom doktorandskej práce je dohľadať materiály vzťahujúce sa k dielu týchto vynikajúcich brnenských architektov a uskutočniť porovnanie ich architektonického diela. Also new information has been occurred in reconnection with architect André Steiner who spent his life in Atlanta, USA. Archives materials about unknown work made by Otto Eisler was also found. The main intention of the PhD thesis is to collect those unsorted materials and information of mentioned architects and to create comparison of their architectural works.
