LEGAL EXPERIENCE Sole Practitioner, Jeff Carolin Barrister & Solicitor – Toronto, ON (2012 - Current)  Manage solo criminal defence practice, primarily for clients who are either on social benefits or who are low-waged  Have successfully run bail hearings, bail reviews, preliminary inquiries, Charter applications to exclude evidence and for stays of proceedings, evidence exclusion applications, judicial review applications, and trials in both the Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice  Have successfully defended clients with charges such as second degree murder (before a jury), attempt murder (drive-by shooting), and heroin importing  Currently focus on criminal appeals to the Ontario Court of Appeal: obtained a declaration of wrongful conviction from this court in R. v. Richardson, 2019 ONCA 996, and had the same court enter acquittals for my client in R. v. OTHER WORK EXPERIENCE Intern, Fundación Nueva Esperanza (New Hope Foundation) – Rabinal, Guatemala (2007 - 2008) The Foundation’s mission is to provide accessible, bilingual education for Indigenous Mayan-Achi youth from families who survived the military repression during the early 1980s.  Awarded a paid internship by the Canadian International Development Agency to assist the Executive Director in all organizational activities: budgeting, translation, volunteer management, project development, and curriculum design  Coordinated the development of income-generation projects for the Foundation’s school, re-designed the website, wrote funding reports, and researched grant opportunities Community Organizer, Coalition Against the Privatization of Water – Ghana, West Africa (2002 - 2003)  Organized the publicity, content, and financial aspects of two public educational forums that raised awareness among local communities about the dangers posed by the water privatization plan  Convened and facilitated a meeting of 18 water and sanitation organizations to gather their support
