“This feels so, so good,” said Wagner. “What a huge sigh of relief. I am so proud of this team for coming out and getting the three-peat, just so excited.” Little separated the two sides over the first 48:00 of play.

Facing Sacred Heart in the conference’s title tilt for the third year in a row, Quinnipiac held a 6-5 lead early in the second half and SHU’s perfect NEC season appeared to be in jeopardy.

Shortly thereafter, the host Pioneers, who had not lost to a NEC opponent in 10 meetings this season, turned up the heat on what was a cold day weather-wise.

Sacred Heart sophomore Alicia Fuchs (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) rattled the cage with 21:44 remaining to even the score at 6-6, the sixth tie of the afternoon.

Slightly more than 4:00 late, sophomore Kate Kmiotek (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) put the Pioneers in front, 7-6, by scoring SHU’s second goal in a string of five straight.

Wagner made a key stop that preserved the slim lead and gave the Pioneers’ possession with 14:10 remaining.

Thirty-two seconds later, Hauser scored to hand Sacred Heart its first two-goal advantage of the contest. Hauser, the 2010 NEC Player of the Year, earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team thanks back-to-back hat tricks.
