St. Lawrence officially opens the 2008-09 campaign Friday, October 10 as it visits Yost Arena to take on defending CCHA postseason and NCAA Frozen Four participant Michigan in Ann Arbor. Coach Joe Marsh's Saints battle the Wolverines in a two-game season-opening series. Rensselaer carries the ECAC Hockey banner north of the border Saturday, October 11 as it travels to Quebec City, Quebec to compete against former League member and current Hockey East foe Vermont at the Pavillon de la Jeunesse, which is part of Quebec's 400th anniversary celebration. Each school will also have a legendary hockey alum as an honorary captain — both of whom are Quebec natives. Rensselaer will be represented by Joe Juneau, a two-time All-American who scored 213 career points for the Engineers prior to embarking on a 13-year National Hockey League career. Serving as UVM's honorary captain is Martin St. Louis, Vermont's all-time leading scorer and a three-time All-American and winner of the NHL's Hart, Ross, and Pearson trophies in 2004. Defending regular-season champion Clarkson takes to the road to open its campaign, battling RIT Friday, October 17 and Niagara Saturday, October 18 at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY. The Golden Knights take home ice for the first time one week later (October 24-25) as they welcome Colorado College to Cheel Arena for a two-game set. Princeton, which claimed the 2008 Bank of America ECAC Hockey Championship, opens the 2008-09 season at the Shootout at Brown October 31-November 1 at Meehan Auditorium. League action officially begins Friday, October 31 when Harvard plays host to travel partner Dartmouth at Bright Hockey Center. League plays gets into full swing November 7 as all 12 teams compete in two-game sets versus league opponents. Travel-partner parings include Brown-Yale at Clarkson-St. Lawrence, Dartmouth-Harvard at Rensselaer-Union and Colgate-Cornell at Quinnipiac-Princeton. Ten of the league's 12 teams will be involved in holiday tournaments in late December/early January. Colgate and Cornell will participate in the Florida Classic in Estero, Florida; Dartmouth hosts the Ledyard National Bank Classic; Quinnipiac participates in the UConn Hockey Classic; Brown travels to Minnesota to compete in the Dodge Holiday Classic; Clarkson competes in the Ohio Hockey Classic at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio; Harvard represents ECAC Hockey in the Badger Showdown in Madison, Wisconsin; Rensselaer looks to claim the Denver Cup; Colgate and St. Lawrence participate in the Catamount Cup; and Union travels to the sunshine state to compete in the Lightning College Hockey Classic in Tampa, FL. The Bank of America ECAC Hockey Championship format once again features two rounds of action at campus sites. Championship play commences with first-round action March 6-8 featuring teams seeded Nos. 5-8 hosting teams seeded Nos. 9-12. The top four teams as determined by the final regular-season standings receive a first-round bye. Quarterfinals action will be held March 13-15 with the top four seeds hosting the winners of first-round action. The four quarterfinals winners advance to the 2008 Bank of America ECAC Hockey Championship finals March 20-21 at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York. The 2009 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship will be held in Washington D.C. from April 9th-11th. The first-ever appear- ance in the Nation’s Capitol, the championships will be held at the Verizon Center, and hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy and the Washington Sports Alliance. Teams will be seeded in four regions: East, Midwest, Northeast, and West. The East Regional competition will be held Friday-Saturday, March 27-28 at the Bridgeport Arena at Harbor Yard, while the Midwest, Northeast, and West Regionals will be held Saturday-Sunday, March 28-29. They will be held at Van Andel Arena, Verizon Wireless Arena, and Mariucci Arena respectively. The regional winners advance to the Frozen Four at the Verizon Center in Washington D.C, with semifinal action taking place Thursday, April 10, and the national championship Saturday, April 12. Other schedule highlights include: Dartmouth hosts the defending NCAA champion Boston College Eagles Sunday, November 30 at Thompson Arena. The Big Green also battle intra-state rival New Hampshire Saturday, January 17 in an annual clash at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire. The Big Red of Cornell battle the Fighting Sioux of North Dakota in a two-game series November 28-29 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Harvard welcomes North Dakota to the East Coast, hosting the Fighting Sioux in a two-game series December 5-6. A full composite schedule accompanies this release.
