• Questioning • Brain storming • Quick Poll Discussion • Questioning • Discussion • Discussions • TI worksheet • Visual representation through hands on activity

Assessment Summary The assessment will be students’ self assessment as well as teachers’ feedback. Teacher can assess the students’ understanding of the concept by questioning, discussions, and observations during the activity. The brainstorming will help the teacher to begin the activity with prior knowledge and understanding. The worksheet helps the student to record their observation during the activity. The Quick Poll is used to monitor students’ progress during the entire activity. The summary sheet helps the students’ to summarize their leanings of the activity. TI Document References • Guide students for trouble shooting while using the Hand Held. • Use various features of the Hand Held effectively.

Unit Details Prerequisite Skills Conceptual Understanding: Students understand what frustum is and how to find the volume and surface area of frustum of a cone. Technical Understanding: Knowledge of using TI Hand Held Device Instructional Procedures • Prepare a brain storming sheet to build the thinking skill and discuss the key question. • Prepare the guidelines for explaining the outcomes while performing the activity. • Prepare worksheet using TI Hand Held • Prepare worksheet (formative assessment) to assess students while working TI Hand Held Device.

Let them know terminology related to cone and frustum. Ask student to observe the figure and ask the following questions or tell  Which part of the cone is cut?  What is that part called as?  Explain to students the meaning of frustum.  Ask them for some real life example to frustum.  What is the radius of the cone?  What is the radius of frustum of a cone?  What is the height of the cone?  What is the height of frustum of a cone?  What is the formula to find the volume of the cone?  Talk a bit about similarity and ask them to locate two similar triangles  Discuss with students how to derive the formula to find the volume of frustum of a cone.  Discuss with student about the change in volume of cone and frustum when point of cut is changed.  What is the formula to find the surface area of the cone?  Discuss with students how to derive the formula to find the surface area of frustum of a cone.

Setup Experiment: Determining the Frustum of a cone Student will observe the figure and understand the meaning of frustum and find the value of radius and height of both cone and frustum of a cone. Record:  Value of radius and height of the cone.  Value of radius and height of frustum of a cone.  Volume of the cone.  Volume of a frustum of a cone.  Surface area of cone.  Surface area of frustum of a cone.

Pose the question and have them write their responses in the note section. Use the quick poll to have the student answer the open response question one by one. Discuss after each response is saved. Discuss the other probable response. Elaborate on the concept and conduct a formative assessment of the students’ understanding. Accommodations for Differentiated Instruction Provide additional time to student Remedial Provide assistance while performing the activity Activities Group the students with different abilities.
