news #34 MUNGOLIAN JETSET - MUNGODELICS Hot on the heels of 2011`s "Schlungs", the Jetsetters have kept those buttons busily pushed, and are already here with their next chapter installment, featuring 8 new nuggets entitled "Mungodelics". The album is essentially a psychodramatic sequel to the highly acclaimed "We Gave It All Away, Now We Are Taking It Back" album of 2009, as it is musically a blend of originals and remakes made into originals, as well as solo performances and external collaborations from the band`s musical core members, Knut Saevik and Paul "Strangefruit" Nyhus. All in all, "Mungodelics" musically summons everything that is hazy, dazy, underearthly and crazy. This is the Mungolian Jetset taking you on a ride through the seasons, and shifts of the days and nights, from the Cantina to the Ewok forest, via ritualistic dancing at Kilmin Taboour and stellar swimming in the galactic Goa. Eagle II (born November 14, 1980), better known by his stage name Open Mike Eagle, is an American hip hop artist. In 2010, after being active in the hip-hop scene as part of the collective Project Blowed, he released his debut solo album: Unapologetic Art Rap. With the title of this album, Open Mike Eagle established the self proclaimed subgenre of ‘art rap’, which he would go on to embrace on many of his later albums. In a write-up on ‘art rap’ for Bandcamp Daily titled "A Walk Through the Avant-Garde World of 'Art Rap' Music”, Max Bell argues that the term ‘art rap’ is a reactionary phrase that responds directly to the subgenre of ‘art rock’, and implies that the existing set of sonic or lyrical conventions for hip-hop do not suffice for the message ‘art rappers’ tend to communicate. -
SonLuxIsTheGrandGenre-LessDreamOfLos
Son Lux is the grand genre-less dream of Los Angeles composer Ryan Lott brought to roiling, vivid life with the help of two New Yorkers, guitarist Rafiq Bhatia and drummer Ian Chang. Each is a writer, producer, and performer with omnivorous taste and a penchant for wild improvisation—a band whose mix of electronic pop, unusual soul, and outright experimentalism feels more inviting than ever on the project's fifth album, Brighter Wounds. The songs therein leave behind Son Lux's typically universal themes for deeply personal fare. While making Brighter Wounds, Lott became a father to a baby boy and lost a best friend to cancer. Days of "firsts" were also days of "lasts," and the normal fears that accompany parenthood were compounded by a frightening new reality—Lott's son arrived shortly after Election Day. These songs draw on all of that: warm reflections of a fading past, pain wrenched from a still-present loss, and a mix of anxiety and hope for a future that is promised to no one. -
Hip-Hop Packet (2007-Present) Questions by William Golden
Hip-Hop Packet (2007-present) Questions by William Golden 1. Rich Boy raps “Let me introduce my lady / Her name is Beretta and she’s motherfucking crazy” in a “Street Remix” to this song also featuring Bun B. This song is prominently sampled in one where Kanye raps “I’m Christopher Columbus, y’all just the Pilgrims”; that song also features Lil Wayne and is by T.I. This song gained popularity after it was featured in the trailer for the stoner comedy film (*) Pineapple Express. This Diplo-produced song is the biggest hit from the album Kala, and a sample from it was used in the song “Swagga Like Us.” In this song, whose primary sample is taken from the Clash’s “Straight to Hell,” the artist sings “All I wanna do is” before the sounds of gunshots and a cash register play. For 10 points, name this 2007 song whose title refers to counterfeit visas, by M.I.A. ANSWER: “Paper Planes” 2. In his bizarre verse on the remix of iLoveMakonnen’s “Down 4 so Long,” Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig claims he is doing this dance “with some goth teens.” In a song named for this dance, the main artist raps “I’m G-U-N, bitch, I’mma die with my gun” and says “I brr with that, ah-ah-ah.” In the song that popularized this dance, the artist raps “Free Greasy tho, let all of my dogs out / Mama said no pussycats inside my doghouse.” (*) Rowdy Rebel released a song named for this dance with its creator, who throws his Knicks cap into the air before doing this dance in one music video. -

Sometimes, you need to calm it down and get a little clarity. 01. No Beginner (2:43) Sometimes, you need a little therapy. Sometimes, you need Kenny Dennis. 02. Off / On (4:04) 03. Shidoshi (3:55) If you’re unfamiliar with the saga of Serengeti’s beloved Bears-worshipping creation, this could seem confusing. You’re essentially a child walking into the middle of a Wesley Snipes and Ving Rhames flick without popcorn or 04. Win Big (1:12) plot. The shorthand is that Kenny Dennis is a cross between Ron Swanson, a Bill Swerski superfan, and the best Golden Age rapper that you never heard. The more nuanced truth is that the KDz is totally singular. SIDE B 05. Perfecto (1:17) Kenny Dennis is the most whimsical, hilarious, and strangely poignant fictional character in hip-hop history—a 06. On The Road (1:09) true blue collar hero of modernity. But on the Joyful Noise-released Kenny Dennis III, the thick-‘stached 07. @ The Mall (1:47) Chicago MC is shouldering a mid-life crisis. He’s afraid that his best times are past him. He’s hanging around 08. Buddy Guy (2:23) new friends to the chagrin of his family. -
Son Lux's Score to "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby" out Now!
06-11-2014 10:00 CET Son Lux's Score to "The Disappearance Of Eleanor Rigby" out now! Caroline International och Glassnote Records Presents: SON LUX SCORES THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ELEANOR RIGBY OUT NOVEMBER 4th, 2014 New York, NY- Glassnote Entertainment Group is excited to introduce the newest addition to the independent label’s roster with the worldwide signing of New York City-based artist Son Lux. Son Lux is led by Ryan Lott. After his first record, At War With Walls and Mazes, NPR’s All Songs Considered declared him the “Best New Artist.” Son Lux has released two EPs and two LPs since, including 2011’s We Are Rising LP, ambitiously written and recorded in just 28 days. In 2013, Son Lux released Lanterns, to critical acclaim, which he most recently re-imagined as the Alternate Worlds EP. The Alternate Worlds EP reworks four songs from Lanterns and features Lorde. Son Lux, never one to keep to one project, as Pitchfork has keenly noticed, “works at the nexus of several rarely-overlapping Venn Diagrams.” As such, few artists have built a more impressive and varied array of collaborators; Pop icons Lorde, Beyoncé producer Boots and Richard Parry (Arcade Fire), indie darlings Sufjan Stevens (with whom he shares the side project Sisyphus) and Peter Silberman (The Antlers), composers Nico Muhly and Pulitzer Prize winner Caroline Shaw, rappers Serengeti, Busdriver and Beans (Antipop Consortium), and MacArthur Genius Grant recipient and Bluegrass legend Chris Thile are all among Son Lux’s recent collaborators. Son Lux has also made a name for himself composing music for film, theater and dance. -

Michigan and Illinois
Sufjan Stevens started his famous "The Fifty States Project" in 2003, the goal of which was to record an album about every state of the United States of America. He made two LPs about his two favorite states – Michigan and Illinois. The first album, simply titled "Michigan," was released in 2003. He constructed the image of Michigan from the point of view of a person who was born and grew up there, then migrated to New York City M aciej Sm ółka and was sentimental about the region of their childhood. Each song was a homage to the beloved home state, telling stories about places, people, cities and natural sites. ThisT LP is a very interesting piece that not only lets one study the way in which the author constructs the image of one’s homeland, but also how he deconstructs the stereotypes, Maciej Smółka publicizes some regional issues, and at the same time promotes the state through music. Say Yes! to M ichigan Because of that, the main purpose of this book is to research Sufjan Stevens's album in the context of the image of the state of Michigan it represents. Say Yes! to Moreover,Mo the analysis of "Michigan" provides valuable information about the popular culture in general – how instrumental can it be in shaping one's impression about a parti- cular place, what is the role of the author of a specific cultural text, what artistic measu- res are used to construct such an impression, and what effects it may cause. Image of the State of Michigan And Its Construction In Sufjan Stevens’s Album “Michigan” Maciej Smółka – a doctoral student in Cultural Studies at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, specializing in Popular Music Studies, B.A.
