Winners of the First World War Centenary Battlefield Tour The History department launched a competition this term to take two Year 9 History students on a trip to tour the Battlefields in France and Belgium. Students were asked to complete an informative display piece of work and present their piece to members of the Senior Leadership Team. The short-listed six were Millie Curtis, Joshua Gigg, Amelia Williams, Maisie Moylan Jones, Sophie Jessop and Bethany Hitchen. Judges felt that the standard of work was amazing and showed knowledge and commitment to the subject. Eventually it was decided to award Sophie Jessop and Bethany Hitchen the opportunity to take part in the trip, with Amelia Williams a well-deserved reserve. The focus was physical theatre, ensemble work and characterisation and culminated in a performance at the Northcott Theatre in Exeter. The squads walked over 17km across Dartmoor, visiting a number of tors on route. They endured some cold but sunny conditions making it challenging yet highly enjoyable due to the amazing scenery. Well done to all students for putting in a great effort to complete the distance. Revision Immersion Year13 Learn About 82 students took part in Revision Immersion - additional revision skills and an insight into ways to ensure productive Digital Marketing and quality revision alongside keeping themselves happy, Year 13 ICT students visited Crealy to discuss digital healthy and balanced. With important exams coming up marketing, including a presentation by Craig Clews, next term this will an invaluable skill.

    PAIGNTON COMMUNITY & SPORTS ACADEMY PAIGNTON ACADEMY NEWS DECEMBER 2015 PROUD STUDENTS MEET PRINCE HARRY On 7th October Prince Harry visited Paignton Rugby Club in his role as patron of the All Schools Rugby programme which was launched in 2012. Our Year 8 rugby players were invited to the club to meet the Prince. Prince Harry spent time talking to the boys and watching them during a training game. PRINCE HARRY Miss English said “The Prince was charming and very relaxed with the students, MEETS STUDENTS taking time to pose with them for the photographers.” BRITISH RECORD BROKEN BY 6TH FORMER Year 13 student Allen Davis has broken the most remarkable record. Allen, who is still only 17 but stands at 6 foot 5 tall and weighs 17 stone, is currently competing in power lifting, training on a daily basis. In early November he revealed his true potential and impressed the entire South West power lifting scene by breaking a British record. Allen has become the strongest seventeen year old boy ever to dead lift in the UK. BRITISH RECORD BROKEN CHILDREN IN NEED We wish him all the best and hope to celebrate further ASPIRE Students’ success with him. FUNDRAISERS £1159 RAISED FOR CHILDREN IN NEED Aspire 6th Form students did a brilliant job with the organisation and delivery of events for Children in Need. In total they raised over £130. Events included a sponsored silence, cake sale, raffle, car wash, hair styling and a table tennis competition and a FIFA tournament. Special thanks go to Tamla Stevens, Stephanie Candlish, Alisha Hughes, Amber Mulley and Samantha Ball.

The partnership About Challenge Partners Challenge Partners is a practitioner-led education charity that enables collaborative school improvement networks to enhance the life chances of all children, especially the most disadvantaged. Challenge Partners was formed to continue the learning which emerged from the development of Teaching Schools that evolved out of the London Challenge. Since its formation in 2011, the outcomes for pupils in Challenge Partners schools have consistently improved faster than the national average. We provide networks and programmes that facilitate sustainable collaboration and challenge between schools in order to underpin improvements in outcomes which would not be possible for a school, or group of schools, to achieve as effectively on its own.

    News from the Principal News for parents, carers, pupils, students of the Academy and the community of Paignton April 2013 Amazing Season For TUFC Development As Programme Draws To Close The Academy’s Torquay United Football Development Programme is enjoying the most successful season since the link was forged in 2007, with the squad on the verge of accomplishing an unprecedented ‘treble’. Already crowned South West College’s Champions, the squad requires just one point from their remaining two league games to clinch the British College’s Sport South West League title. The squad are all members of the 6th Form made up of made up from a combination of locally sourced players, in conjunction with players acquired from across the entire nation. They have bonded superbly and produced some fantastic performances which has seen them claim some notable victories against South Devon College, Ivybridge Community College and even current ‘League 1A’ Champions Merchants’ Sports Academy from Bristol who were defeated by an amazing 7 – 3 margin in the recent South West Area Cup Final. In pursuit of their third piece of silverware, the U18s Devon County Cup, Paignton must overcome Plymouth’s Plymstock School. The current squad have developed massively under the expert coaching of Nick Milton and have also benefitted from the input of former Premier League custodian Robbie Herrera. Players who impress are given the opportunity to train and in some cases play for Torquay United’s Youth Apprentices and even senior reserve squads. 2009 graduate Saul Halpin went all the way and became the initiative’s first full professional player.
