• To avoid being a target of crime, do not wear conspicuous clothing or expensive jewelry and do not carry excessive amounts of money or unnecessary credit cards. • Avoid traveling alone or at night. Always tell someone your travels plans including your destination, hotel, dates of travel, and method of travel. • Avoid protest groups or other potentially volatile situations.

ity/region specific safety information: Dalian DUFE has own health clinic. The Number 2 Hospital of the local Medical University is a 15 minute walk North from campus on main road, or one stop on the tram. The hospital has qualified doctors (many trained in US) but is extremely crowded and noisy. All medical service is on a pay-first-in-cash basis. US insurance is not recognized. Pay in cash in China and claim back later in US. Drugs are readily available, but all labeling is in Chinese. The campus has its own police station but generally do not expect Chinese police to help you much. They are friendly but most do not speak any English. ountry specific advice/tips for local travel: No safety risks other than normally occur in a big city; theft, drunkenness, road accidents, etc. Please note that homosexual acts are heavily frowned upon, especially in public. Please note tap water in China is not safe to drink. Therefore, always drink bottled water. Be careful with money. Only China issued credit cards normally accepted, so use cash, which can easily be obtained from ATMs with US based debit cards or pay with phone.

You should be up to date on routine vaccinations while traveling to any destination. Some additional vaccines may also be required for travel.
