Press Release: Dance Fusion Competition PRESS RELEASE: DANCE FUSION COMPETITION GREENACRE SPORTS PARTNERSHIP HOST- DANCE FUSION 2016. The Greenacre Sports Partnership Dance Fusion competition was held on Tuesday 15th March 2016 at Greenacre Academy. The competition saw approximately 194 students, ranging from ages of 7-18 years old, participate from 18 different Primary and Secondary Schools within the partnership. Participants were able to choose their own style of dance, and they were judged for their creativity, technique, difficulty, confidence and overall performance. The results were as follows: Primary category: 1st: St Margaret’s at Troy Town 2nd: Warren Wood Primary Academy 3rd: Danecourt Special School Secondary category: 1st: The Victory Academy 2nd: Greenacre Academy (Josh Waka and David Benson) 3rd: Greenacre Academy (Impulse Group) We were fortunate to have the assistance of 12 Greenacre Leadership Academy students, and 2 6th form students, who supported the event by assisting with stage management, photography, and backstage and judge chaperone duties. These pupils did a fantastic job and very much contributed towards the event being a success. The Dance Fusion event would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the support of several partners. A big thank you to Greenacre Academy for hosting the event, to A1 events organisation for assistance with stage lighting and sound, to all the schools who participated in the competition, the judges; Natalie Harris, Sam Clay, and Nina Atkinson, and finally to all the parents, family members, and staff who came to support them. We welcomed Natalie Harris, Kent Sports Event Manager and who also coordinates the Kent School Games Cultural Celebration Event, which last year saw several Dance Fusion contestants perform. Secondly, we had none other than Strictly Come Dancing’s James and Ola Jordan!! All judges provided some fantastic feedback and hugely contributed to making the event a success! Furthermore, we were very grateful for the assistance of eighteen Greenacre Leadership Academy students, and five 6th form students, who supported the event by assisting with stage management, photography, welcoming and ticket collection, backstage management and chaperone duties. These pupils did an excellent job and we couldn’t have done the event without their additional support.     Issue 18 Spring 2014 WELCOME. Welcome to the HSSP spring newsletter for 2014 – a rather wet one! A belated Happy New Sporting Year to yourselves and your pupils and parents. Many thanks for your school and pupils continued support of P.E. and School Sport in 2013 and of the many teacher training programmes, coaching, volunteering, playing and competitive opportunities we offer your schools. Our primaries are currently delighted with the news that the government has extended the grant offer of the Primary P.E. Premium funding until to summer 2016, (initially it was for 2 years only). So this ring fenced funding £9000 approx. per academic year for every Primary School, and an Ofsted priority, will last for 3 academic years. Furthermore, the current government have promised, to further extend this same amount every year for every Primary School until 2020 as part of the Olympic legacy, if they get elected. The HSSP staff are busy visiting many primary schools offering advice and support to Head Teachers and P.E. Co-ordinators on how to action plan and improve: their P.E. curriculum and quality of teaching and learning for staff and pupils, the health and physical activity levels of less active pupils and sports club and competition opportunities for all pupils. We have 39 out of a possible 45 schools signed up to our services this year and we plan to continue our school sport services for primaries in the future. We are currently reviewing our pricing structure to ensure that we can continue to exist financially beyond summer 2016, as we receive no government funding to help contribute towards the salaries of SSCo’s.

    10.07.20 Dear Parents/Carers As we approach the end of term, we reflect on our year at school so far and turn our thoughts towards September. End of Year reports are ready and will be distributed at the start of next week, while it has certainly not been the school year we had planned for, I would like to thank all the members of the school community who have supported the continuation of learning over the last few months – whether online or in school. I know from talking to many parents and carers that supporting learning at home has been a challenge, but I am thankful for all the efforts you have made to support this. Towards the end of next week, we will send out further details about our plans for September. We will be welcoming all children in Years 1-6 back on Friday 4 September with our new Early Years pupils not starting until the following week. The safety measures we currently have in place will remain for September, with children continuing to be working within class ‘bubbles’. We will continue to review and amend plans over the summer and will re-send important information in the days before school re-starts. We are really looking forward to seeing everyone back on site again. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we carefully consider our plans for reopening. Context The Victory Academy is a “rapidly improving school”1 in Chatham, Kent. It is a smaller than the average- sized mixed secondary school. It is in an area where there are grammar schools and as a result, whilst welcoming students of all abilities, the student body tends to have lower prior achievement. The school also has a greater number of students with special educational needs or disabilities than average and a higher number of students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. It is part of the ‘Thinking Schools Academy Trust’ led by The Rochester Grammar School which is a family of schools working together to "improve the life chances of all their children and young people.”2 Evidence Base The University of Exeter received the school’s submission from the Thinking Skills Co-ordinator, Ms Laura Gladstone, evidencing the school’s progress towards meeting the accreditation criteria. Victory Academy School began its journey towards becoming a ‘Thinking School in 2015 when it changed its name and became part of the Thinking Schools Academy Trust. The evidence presented on the school’s web site was well-organised and included pictorial evidence of displays and work showing how pupils apply and use the tools to enrich and enhance their learning.
