Science STEM Acꢁviꢁes Genius Squad

There is always an excitement on returning to school in the New Year. Resoluꢀons were sꢀll intact on January 3rd and there was much to look forward to. Year 8 have started the year with their Opꢀons Evening; Many thanks to the parents who took ꢀme to comment kindly on the posiꢀve experience they and their children had at the Opꢀons Evening.

Rowing Team Going to the Naꢁonals

During this term, Year 11 have had their Sixth form interviews and know exactly what they need to do to secure a place on their chosen course; it has been fantasꢀc to see record numbers applying for our sixth form. Next term will be very busy with our Year 11 preparing for their final GCSE exams and making decisions about their future. Students will need to be more focussed and resilient than ever, showing real determinaꢀon to achieve their goals. Year 11 parent/carers and students have now been noꢀfied of their bespoke daily aſter school intervenꢀon sessions which start next term; it is VITAL that students aꢁend these sessions as it will make a real difference to their GCSE outcomes in August. I would urge all parents and carers of year 11 to fully support this strategy; aſter all, we are all working towards the same outcome – a

This is an important Skill for Life to imbed in our future generaꢀon of workers; therefore we would very much appreciate the support of our parents in ensuring your son/ward is at school every day and on ꢀme.

PIXLMaths APP

Next term we welcome back Mrs Edge who will be returning as our Head of School following her maternity leave. Mrs Edge has been into the Academy during this term and has been impressed with the conduct of our students.
Don’t forget that all students have access to the PIXL Maths APP which is a fantasꢀc resource where they can revise maths on a computer or their phone. Students can get their login details from their teacher and we would like them to use it regularly so that they can become independent learners.
Daylight is lengthening as we look forward to all the

challenges and opportuniꢀes of the spring term at Greenacre Academy, achieving excellence for all in an ever changing world. We wish you all an enjoyable and producꢀve half-term holiday. For Years 11, 12 and 13 in parꢀcular, this is a crucial period as they begin to prepare in earnest for their summer examinaꢀons.

  • already..! Where did that term go?
  • The end of term
  • 3

Well done Marlowe House on yet another successful term!

Individually it has been a great term for many of you – I was very pleased to see so many of Churchill boys building upon successes from earlier this year and it was brilliant to see so many more of you invited to either of the Zero point parꢀes too. I am also proud to see how well many of you are performing on a weekly basis – with 7 of the last week’s top 10 Housepoint earners being from Churchill house-enjoy your passes lads! Those of you who work hard consistently and always do the basic are the cornerstone of Churchill house and I thank each one of you; I hope those of you who could contribute more would try to emulate some of the great role models that we have amongst us.

This term has seen several Marlowe students selected for ‘Student of the Term.’ This is a fantasꢀc achievement as it means those who have been awarded this ꢀtle have been singled out as being outstanding learners in that specific subject! The Marlowe students who have obtained this great accolade are: Hashim Farid – has been idenꢀfied as a budding mathemaꢀcian, George Larman – has shown a real flair for Media Studies, Jake Cooksley has shown an excellent work ethic in Design and Technology, and Ethan Wadmore has made a valuable contribuꢀon to the school’s vocal group - well done, boys!

Sadly we currently sit boꢁom of the pile in terms of housepoints with the same theme reoccurring: once again managing to earn a vast amount of housepoints but losing substanꢀally more through receiving detenꢀons and someꢀmes leꢃng them escalate. If you are one of those who does earn a few detenꢀons, you know you will have a detenꢀon – it is your job to find out when and where and get it done at the first opportunity; don’t let it escalate and cost the house even more housepoints than it already has – we are a team and in this together!

This term has seen Marlowe forms aꢁempt to improve their overall aꢁendance, well done to all who have made

  • a
  • concerted effort to improve aꢁendance and

punctuality. In addiꢀon to this, forms have also been focusing on raising their housepoint totals – form CP have excelled at this and Hashim Farid and Louie Devonport have consistently been in the top ten housepoint earners – well done!

Please remember to do the basics, be organised and plan ahead. Sort out your uniform, equipment and PE (if you need it) the night before, as this will set you up for a posiꢀve day and take the stress out of your morning rouꢀne! What are the basics? Wear full school uniform to line-up (including your shoes and ꢀe) and have your planner and basic equipment ready for the day ahead. Be proud that you are a student of Greenacre Academy; and parꢀcularly proud that you are part of the greatest house - Churchill house!

Please make sure you return to school in term four with all of your basic equipment and wearing correct uniform – let’s start the new term as we mean to go on!

Finally, I’d like to wish all Marlowe students, Mrs Ward, Mrs Hill and our hardworking form tutors a resꢂul half term and thank you for all your hard work during term three.

Well done to those of you in the Churchill Championship top 30; you are doing yourselves and the house proud!

Ms. Wall

Have a great half-term!!

IT and Business

Over the past term students in KS3 have been looking at hardware and soſtware. They have been exploring the inner parts of a computer, idenꢀfying what their role is and how they work. Students have also explored the idea of "internal" and "external" hardware components to further their understanding of the enꢀre computer system.
IT is now looking at the uses of informaꢀon in the public domain, globally, in the cloud and across the internet, by individuals and organisaꢀons. They will discover that good management of both data and informaꢀon is essenꢀal, and that it can give any organisaꢀon a compeꢀꢀve edge.
More recently we have developed into soſtware and it's different forms. For example students have looked at soſtware applicaꢀons and their many uses, operaꢀng systems and how they work within the computer system. Next term we will be moving into programming, where students will learn the basics of language, including how to design a program using flowcharts.
Business is now looking at the skills and understanding

Year 11 revision

As we all know exams are fast approaching and students should be doing regular revision at home. Some ideas to help you:

 Why not try making flash cards of the key terms from Biology, Chemistry and Physics?

 Use post-its to display ideas from a topic around your bedroom.

 Use your revision guides – read a page, cover it, see what you can remember.

 Create mind maps on each topic of your exams.  Complete past exam papers – all your teachers will be happy to mark these for you!

PRESS RELEASE: DANCE FUSION COMPETITION GREENACRE SPORTS PARTNERSHIP HOST- DANCE FUSION 2017. The Greenacre Sports Partnership Dance Fusion competition was held on Tuesday 28th March 2017 at Greenacre Academy. The competition saw 221 students, ranging from ages of 7-18 years old, participate from 18 different Primary and Secondary Schools within the partnership. Participants were able to choose their own style of dance, and they were judged for their creativity, skill and technique, personality, timing and overall performance. The results were as follows: Primary category: 1st: St Thomas More RC Primary School 2nd: St Michael’s RC Primary School 3rd: Danecourt Special School Secondary category: 1st: The Victory Academy Group 1 2nd: The Victory Academy Group 2 3rd: Fort Pitt Grammar School KS4 Group We were extremely fortunate to have some special guests to judge the competition. We welcomed Natalie Harris, Kent Sports Event Manager and who also coordinates the Kent School Games Cultural Celebration Event, which last year saw several Dance Fusion contestants perform. Secondly, we had none other than Strictly Come Dancing’s James and Ola Jordan!! All judges provided some fantastic feedback and hugely contributed to making the event a success! Furthermore, we were very grateful for the assistance of eighteen Greenacre Leadership Academy students, and five 6th form students, who supported the event by assisting with stage management, photography, welcoming and ticket collection, backstage management and chaperone duties. These pupils did an excellent job and we couldn’t have done the event without their additional support. The Dance Fusion competition would not have been possible if it wasn’t for the support of several partners.

Issue 18 Spring 2014 WELCOME. Welcome to the HSSP spring newsletter for 2014 – a rather wet one! A belated Happy New Sporting Year to yourselves and your pupils and parents. Many thanks for your school and pupils continued support of P.E. and School Sport in 2013 and of the many teacher training programmes, coaching, volunteering, playing and competitive opportunities we offer your schools. Our primaries are currently delighted with the news that the government has extended the grant offer of the Primary P.E. Premium funding until to summer 2016, (initially it was for 2 years only). So this ring fenced funding £9000 approx. per academic year for every Primary School, and an Ofsted priority, will last for 3 academic years. Furthermore, the current government have promised, to further extend this same amount every year for every Primary School until 2020 as part of the Olympic legacy, if they get elected. The HSSP staff are busy visiting many primary schools offering advice and support to Head Teachers and P.E. Co-ordinators on how to action plan and improve: their P.E. curriculum and quality of teaching and learning for staff and pupils, the health and physical activity levels of less active pupils and sports club and competition opportunities for all pupils. We have 39 out of a possible 45 schools signed up to our services this year and we plan to continue our school sport services for primaries in the future. We are currently reviewing our pricing structure to ensure that we can continue to exist financially beyond summer 2016, as we receive no government funding to help contribute towards the salaries of SSCo’s.

Local Authority Report To The Schools Adjudicator From Kent County Council 30 June 2018 Report Cleared by: Keith Abbott - Director of Education Planning and Access Date submitted: 28th June 2018 By : Scott Bagshaw – Head of Fair Access Contact email address: [email protected] Telephone number: 03000 415798 www.gov.uk/government/organisations/office-of-the-schools-adjudicator Please email your completed report to: [email protected] by 30 June 2018 and earlier if possible 1 Introduction Section 88P of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (the Act) requires every local authority to make an annual report to the adjudicator. The Chief Adjudicator then includes a summary of these reports in her annual report to the Secretary for State for Education. The School Admissions Code (the Code) sets out the requirements for reports by local authorities in paragraph 6. Paragraph 3.23 specifies what must be included as a minimum in the report to the adjudicator and makes provision for the local authority to include any other issues. The report must be returned to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator by 30 June 2018. The report to the Secretary of State for 2017 highlighted that at the normal points of admission the main admissions rounds for entry to schools work well. The Chief Adjudicator expressed less confidence that the needs of children who need a place outside the normal admissions rounds were so well met. In order to test this concern, local authorities are therefore asked to differentiate their answers in this year’s report between the main admissions round and in year admissions1.
