2014 NEWSLETTER TERM 2 he bi-annual Kent School Games first T began in 2008 as a Kent County Council Olympic and Paralympic legacy project to inspire schools and young people across Kent to participate in competitive school sport. The Kent School Games is a multi- sport competition open to all young people aged 4 – 18 in primary, secondary and special needs schools. LEVEL 1 Intra-school competition Ye a r ! Off the back of the success of the Kent School Games, in 2012 the national, annual School Games programme fEEdS began (now titled Sainsbury’s School Games). The Games are a unique LEVEL 2 opportunity to motivate and inspire Regular inter-school competition between schools at local level millions of young people across the country to take part in more competitive school sport. LINKEd Four Levels LEVEL 3 The Games are made up of four levels Annual county/sub-regional culmination of inter-school competition of activity: competition in schools, between schools, at county/area level Progression into/through NGB performance system and a national event for the most talented school age athletes. LEVEL 4 The Games are designed to build on National multi-sport residential event the magic of 2012 to enable every school and child to participate in competitive sport, including meaningful opportunities for disabled youngsters. Local Competitions At a local level, the level 2 competitions are coordinated by Greenacre Sports Partnership, the Howard School Sports Partnership and Medway Council. Most of the level 2 competitions then feed on to the Level 3 Kent School Games. The 2014 Level 2 Kent School Games will run across 20 days at 12 venues covering 35 sporting activities with 6350 participants taking part in 65 events at the finals.
