Key Points:

The Hope Six Demolition Project draws from several journeys undertaken by Harvey, who spent time in Kosovo, Afghanistan and Washington, D.C. over a four-year period. “When I’m writing a song I visualise the entire scene. I can see the colours, I can tell the time of day, I can sense the mood, I can see the light changing, the shadows moving, everything in that picture. Gathering information from secondary sources felt too far removed for what I was trying to write about. I wanted to smell the air, feel the soil and meet the people of the countries I was fascinated with”, says Harvey.

The album was recorded last year in residency at London’s Somerset House. The exhibition, entitled ‘Recording in Progress’ saw Harvey, her band, producers Flood and John Parish, and engineers working within a purpose-built recording studio behind one-way glass, observed throughout by public audiences.

With nominations for three JUNO Awards, The Polaris Prize, The CBC’s "Heart Of Gold" AND a pile of albums under his belt, Danny Michel is unquestionably one of Canada’s finest songwriters. His thoughtful lyrics & earnest performances have earned him a devoted fan base. Later he tracked down one of his favorite bands; The Garifuna Collective, a unique Afro‐Amerindian cultural group and convinced them to make an album together. Solids' 2014 debut LP Blame Confusion (Fat Possum/Dine Alone) was lauded for its revved‐up take on alt‐rock from the early '90s. Its poppy melodies set against a dense, relentless soundscape pointed to guitarist Xavier Germain‐Poitras and drummer Louis Guillemette's formative years in the hardcore scene.

Their forthcoming Else EP, out on Topshelf/Dine Alone Records in April 2016, sees the band checking in after a year of near‐ endless touring. Having played more than 200 shows in 2014‐2015 with the likes of Pity Sex, Makthaverskan, Nothing, PUP, Single Mothers and Metz, the EP reflects that road weariness with a group of songs that vibrate at a lower frequency.

These tracks document the waiting, the bleary‐eyed confusion and the blur of days that come with life on the road. The EP serves as a melancholic deconstruction of the '90s slacker ethos explored on their first LP. But it also charts Solids' transition into a wider and more experimental sound, borrowing strands from Dinosaur Jr., Hum and Unwound and coiling them into an anxious, alienated sound that's all their own.

Toronto-based singer/songwriter Megan Bonnell releases her sophomore album, Magnolia, on April 15, 2016 via MapleMusic Recordings. The record, which was produced once again by Chris Stringer (The Wooden Sky, Timber Timbre) and Joshua Van Tassel (David Myles, Gypsophilia), holds within it a very specific time in her life and features 11 new songs, including the first single, ‘Can’t Have You’.

"Magnolia started to take shape back in 2013. I was touring my first album 'Hunt and Chase' and as I did, new songs started to arrive, and thank goodness for that. It was in the making of this record that I was able to make a certain kind of sense of the world around me. Love came and went, and then came again, and my family found itself blessed by the birth of my beautiful sister's first little girl. Things were changing. I wanted to move forward, but I didn't want time to diminish history's meaning.” Megan continues, “It is in these songs that I captured what these moments have meant to me, and who we were together. All of us. Just the two of us. Me. Magnolia holds within it a chapter of my life. Reflections of times and places, of heartbreak and happiness."

Magnolia is dynamic, and emotionally endowed. Its songs are honest, and do not steer away from being raw and vulnerable. The album opener, 'Can't Have You' carries traces of Bob Dylan romanticism. Like a handwritten love letter, it is a tender plea to let love go, "Lay me down if I can't have you, Let me go if there's nothing more that I can do."

Following two critically acclaimed studio albums and a live album, They Call Me Rico will return stronger than ever this spring with a third studio album.The album, made up entirely of original songs features Rico (Frédéric Pellerin), a one-man band originally from Québec, Canada who now lives in Lyon, France.

With 10 songs recorded in two studios in the Lyon area, the album sees Rico adding a more rock sound to the Americana roots and blues sound that he has become known for. While he stays true to himself, the songs have a more modern feel compared to his previous albums. An artist who is constantly in transformation, his process is based a desire not to repeat himself while keeping his original musical identity.

They Call Me Rico is a solo one-man concept but he decided to enlist the services of other both Canadian and French musicians, including Charlie Glad (violin and keys) from Lyon, France, Dominique “Rock” Laroche (Voïvod) on bass, and Nicolas Grimard (Caïman Fu) on lap steel guitar, both from Canada.

Produced by Rico, the album was mostly recorded at his Magneto studio in Lyon, France by sound engineers Vincent Lévesque and Russell Stageman, and Jonathan Verne at Studio La Hacienda in Tarare, France.

Although a “new” entity in name, ABHOMINE is the latest creation of underground legend Pete Helmkamp (Angelcorpse, Order From Chaos, Revenge, Terror Organ, et al), and his first true solo‐project. A composition of social, artistic, and existential modes which reflect our reality, ABHOMINE is a heaving, grinding mass (hypnosis) of gnarliness and abject sonic cruelty. Across Larvae Offal Swine, ABHOMINE presents examples of truth, often ugly and offensive, but true nonetheless. Writing every note, Helmkamp here handles all guitars and bass, with his unmistakable vocals at the forefront of this mental wreckage, with all drum tracks recorded and composed by a session drummer. Together, the bleak ‘n’ bloody canvas on which they paint is stained with lyrics proclaiming that man is the root of abomination. ABHOMINE sees beyond the masks that spread untruths and falsehoods, and the sonic/lyrical warhead Helmkamp hones is a means to expose these lies. Various links to Helkamp’s long, deadly canon can be traced, but the swirling, smothering bulldoze that ABHOMINE chunders forth with here is very much its own entity.

In 1997 Memnock (Susperia a.o) founded Abyssic Dreams and recorded a two song‐demo together with drummer Athera (now vocalist in Susperia and Chrome Division. A period of inactivity followed until 2012 as they focused on their new band: Susperia which featured Tjodaly (Dimmu Borgir) and guitarist Elvor. Following the self‐imposed hibernation Memnock breathed new life into the band after coincidently meeting Andre Aaslie who had just finished the debut release by the orchestral extreme metal band Gromth. Motortown Revue Live In Paris’ line‐up features performances from Motown/Tamla legends The Supremes, The Miracles, Stevie Wonder, Martha And The Vandellas and Earl Van Dyke.

Originally released on the Tamla Motown label in the US in 1965 and in the UK in February 1966, this live album was taken from the Paris stint of the 1965 Motortown Revue European tour. Warp situates the solo piano of Norway’s Jon Balke within a subtle architecture of composed soundscapes, in fluctuating dimensions of space. As always, says Balke, the more you explore and discover, the further you want to go, and things are not so simple anymore. It’s a very interesting process.

And what begins as gently exploratory solo piano gradually acquires an almost hallucinatory aspect. Balke’s solo piano was recorded at Oslos Rainbow Studio, and the sound images were recorded and processed by Balke and Audun Kleive. Additional field recordings by Balke were integrated in the mix of the album at RSI Studio Lugano in September 2015.

 This is the first release by celebrated Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich together with young, stellar conductor Lionel Bringuier, who took on the leadership as principal conductor and music director in 2014/15  All of Ravel's orchestral works in one box including the popular piano concertos and famous Tzigane, performed by Yuja Wang and Ray Chen.  The Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, having roots that reach back to 1868, has a rich recording tradition proven by the fifty seminal recordings it made during the Zinman years. His new band makes a quieter but richly creative musical proposal. All the musicians are well-known in diverse contexts. Mats Eilertsens elegant bass has been heard on ECM recordings with Tord Gustavsen, Trygve Seim, Wolfert Brederode and Jacob Young. Hakon Stene is a Norwegian contemporary classical percussionist of distinction. Harmonium player Sigbjorn Apeland collaborated with Okland previously on Lysøen - Hommage a Ole Bul. And new music saxophonist Rolf-Erik Nylstrom has played extensively with Frode Haltli in the trio Poing.

On Kjolvatn most of the music is from Oklands pen but each band member contributes his unique perspective to the arrangements. As Nils says: Over the years I have moved between a wide range of genres from classical violin to Balkan folk, rock, jazz, free improvisation and Norwegian folk music. I’ve always composed my own material inspired by all these expressions. In early baroque music another musical style I let myself be inspired by it was common to have sketches as the basis for making new music. In this band we work with methods influenced by this.

Born in 1957 in northern Hungary, guitarist/composer Ferenc Snétberger was the youngest son of a family of musicians. Early on his father, a guitar player also, became his role model. Snétberger studied classical music and jazz guitar. Today he is best known for his art of improvising and his crossing of stylistic borders. His music is inspired by the Roma tradition of his home country, Brazilian music and flamenco as well as classical guitar playing and jazz. He made numerous albums as a leader, co‐leader and sideman and has toured all over Europe as well as Japan, Korea, India and the United States.
