Hornsby Folk Club’s November concert may allow you to combine the two, given a bit of preparation. ‘The Songs of Henry Lawson’ is a songbook available both through Barry Parks for Hornsby Folk Club, or via the Folk Federation’s website jam.org.au. (From November, it will also be available through your favourite local bookstore; just ask them to check their catalogues if they haven’t yet ordered a copy.) The songbook gives you literally hundreds of settings of Lawson poems to choose from, all conveniently set with a melody line for the singer to work from and chords for either guitar or piano.
