Tokatlı Zülbiye-zade Ahmed Efendi'den ilim aldı(8). Daha sonra Kayseri'ye gitmiş ve Hoca Emin Efendi'den icazet almıştır(9). Kayseri'de Hacı Torun Efendi'nin damadı olarak tanınan ve Divrikli Mehmed Emin Efendi isimli bu hacası hakkındaki bir ha­ tırasınr şöyle anlatır : Anadolu'nun büyük şehirlerinden biri olan Kayseri'de ilim tah­ sil ederken Kayserili Hoca Torun Efendi'nin damadı olarak bilinen Hacarn Divrikli .Şeyh Mehmed Emin Efendi'ye yine Kayseri'nin mes-. hur alimlerinden Şeyh Darnacl Halil Efendi, Kayseri alimlerini davet ettiği bir ziyafet mecl-isinde, şöyle bir soru sormuştu: Allah «Hiç bir şey yok ki onun hamdine bürünere-k tesbih etmesin; ancak siz onla-­ rın tesbihlerini anlamazsınrz ,(10) buyurur. Ne dersiniz? Çalgı alet­ leri bu ayette olumsuz ifade de yer alan belirsiz isimden anlaşılan umumilik manasına nasıl girer? Halil Efendi, Divrikli Mehmed Emin Efendi He rekabet halindeydi. Böyle bir mecliste böyle bir soruyu maksatir sormuştu. Ne var ki Divrikli'nin mantık ilminde derin bilgisi vardı. Soruyu şöyle cevaplandırdı. Ayetteki kaziyye şartlı genel kaziyyedir. Şartlı genel kazıyye demek onu mevzuuna mahmul yapmak suretiyle hükmün illeti mev­ ·zuun vasfı olan ·kazıyye demektir. Buna göre : her şey, şey olması yö• nünden yani mevcud olduğu için Allalır tesbih eder. · Çünkü Allah mevcud olmasaydı onun da mevcud olması mümkün olmazdı. Çalgı aletleri de birer mevcud oldukları ve Allah mevcud olmasaydı onla­ rın da mevcud olmaları imkansız olduğu için Alla'hı tesbih ederler. Tecrubi olsaydı muvakkat, bir ilim olur­ du.» MS. 614 Tahsilini ilerietmek için Kayseri'den istanbul'a gitmiş istanbullu Mehmed Atıf beyden ve meşihat-ı islamiyye ders vekili Gümülcine.li Ahmed Asım Efendi'den icazet almış(12), daha sonra ruus imtihanını kazanarak müderris olmuş(13) ve hacası Asım Efendinin k ı zı Ulviye hanımla evlenmiştir(14). "Bu evlilikten İbrahim Sabri Efendi isminde bir oğlu ve bir kızı olduğunu bHiyoruz. Oğlu Edebiyat Profesörü olarak Libya ve Mısır Üniversitelerinde hizmet etmiş ve 1983 (?) de vefat etmiştir. Bir kızı hayattadır. istanbul'da oturmaktadır. b. ilmi Faaliyetleri : 1890 (1307)'da açılan ruus imtihanını kazanarak 22 yaşında Fatih camiinde müderris olarak ilmi faaliyetine başlamış, elli kadar öğ­ renciye icazet vermiştir(15). Bu arada Beşi'ktaş Asariye Camii imam­ lığı imtihanını da kazanmıştır(16). 1897 (1315) yılından itibaren Huzur Dersleri(17) muhataplığına da kat ı lmış, bu faaliyeti 1-332 (1914) y ı lına kadar devam etmiştir(18). 16 Ocak 1900(1318)'de Kitabet-i Şehriyari proto·kolüne dahil ola:­ rak Sultan ll. Bu arada Cemiyet-i ilmiyye'n·in yayın ladığ ı a.Beyanu'I-Haku Dergisinin baş yazarıdır. Siyasi rotası, ittihad ve Terakki Partisine tam mu~alefettir. Bu yüzden bu parti iktidara gelince onu yakalamaya çalışmıştır. Bu se­ beple evine bir gece ani bas'kı n yapmışlar . O pencereden atlayarak kurtu l m ay ı başarm ı ş ve Romanya'ya kaçmıştı r . ittihad ve Terakki'­ nin dağılmas ın a kadar orada kalm ı şt ı r(24 ) . Bu suretle y ı llarca faal hayattan uzak kalan Mustafa Sabri Efendi boş za m an l arı nı a r aştırm a ve telif faliyetleriyle değerlen di rmeye ça lı ş ı yordu. Bundan onun il­ mi eserler verme devresine bu tarihten itibaren başlamış olduğunu söyliyebiliriz. Damad Ferid Paşa kabinesinin düş­ mesi üzerine, Ayan Azalığı (Senatör)'na tayin edilmiş(28); daha sonra Ferid Paşa kabinesinin yeniden kurulmasiyl·e zaman z-aman Şeyhul­ islamlrk makamına getirilmişse de bazı kabine üyeleriyle a nlaş ama­ dığı için 7. Muharrem. 1339 (1920)'de istifa etmişt1r(29). Mustafa Sabri Hoc-anın siyasi hayatını sürdürdüğü bu devre Türk Siyasi tarihi bakımından bir varlık yakluk meselesinin en kritik dev­ resini teşkil eder. Bir muazzam imparatorluk çatırdamaya baş l amış­ tır. Sonuç ne olacaktır. Bu ar;ada her düşünen insan bir kurtuluş ça• resi aramak zorundadır . Çeşitli görüşler, faaliyetler iyi bir sonuca ulaşpıak için birbiriyle uğraşacaktır. Sonunda galip gelen taraf muha­ liflerini z.ararsız hale getirecektir. Bu daima böyle olmuştur. Milli Mücadele zafere ula ş ın ca Mustafa Sabri Efendi «Siyaseten tebau'de mecbur . edilmiş• tir(30). Böylece Mustafa Sabri Hoca 'nın Türkiye'deki hayatı sona ermiştir(31). B. TÜRKiYE DIŞINDAKi HAYATI: istanbul'dan ayrıld ı ktan sonra Yunanistan'da(32), Gümülcine'de bir köyde ailesiyle birlikte ıkarnet etmiştir(33 ). Burası 'kayınbabası­ nın memleketidir. In effect, non-Muslims and Muslim scholars neglect the full range of Prophet Muhammad’s statements about Jesus that are in the Hadīth. The dissertation’s main thesis is that an examination of the Hadīths’ reports of Muhammad’s words about and attitudes toward ‘Īsā will lead to fuller understandings about Jesus-‘Īsā among Muslims and propose to non-Muslims new insights into Christian tradition about Jesus. In the latter process, non-Muslims will be encouraged to re-examine past hostile views concerning Muhammad and his words about Jesus. A minor thesis is that Western readers in particular, whether or not they are Christians, will be aided to understand Islamic beliefs about ‘Īsā, prophethood, and eschatology more fully. In the course of the dissertation, Hadīth studies will be enhanced by a full presentation of Muhammad’s words about and attitudes toward Jesus-‘Īsā.

It is widely used in various fields of knowledge, including in Islamic studies. Nonetheless, there are disputes among the Muslim community regarding this subject derived from scholars’ disagreement between accepting and rejecting it. This polemic has created a state of disharmony within the circle of discussion through the efforts of defending their judgments. Through the content analysis method, this article examines the attitude of the scholars of Ahl al-Sunnah wa al- Jama‘ah towards the science of logic. Gelvin, Chair This dissertation traces the establishment of a binary between work and laziness from 1839 to 1920, the last century of the Ottoman Empire. Over this period, Ottoman society experienced an epochal shift in the discourses and practices of work. This study examines this shift, first, by exploring how concepts of work and productivity were moralized, socially practiced, militarized and politicized in a non-European modernity project, and second, by demonstrating how this emergent discourse, formulated as an issue of ‘national’ importance, became a constitutive element of the general nation-formation process within the last Ottoman century. I examine the configuration and development of the moralistic discourse of an ‘Islamic work ethic’ as an integral part of creating productive citizens. To do this, I consult an underutilized source, morality books, which display the connection between the mobilization for productivity, modern ii conceptualizations of body and time, and nation formation. Emphasizing the role of social practice in emergent discourses, I investigate how the bureaucratic reforms of the state in the last Ottoman century played a pivotal role in the transformation of concepts and practices of work.

I demonstrate that the idea of science(s) was subject to a tectonic change over the course of a few centuries, namely between the early modern and modern period. Even within a specific epoch, conception of science and religion were in no way monolithic, as evidenced by the diversity of approaches to these categories in the early modern period. To point out continuity and change in the ideas of science and religion, I study classifications of sciences in the early modern Ottoman Empire, by comparing two works; one by Yahya Nev‘î and the other by Saçaklızâde Muhammed el-Mar‘aşî. Nev‘î wrote from the context of the court in Istanbul, while Saçaklızâde represented the madrasa environment in an Anatolian province, thus providing a contrast in their orders of knowledge. In addition, the dissertation includes a study of the concept of "jihat al- waḥda" (aspect of unity) of science, as discussed by commentators from the early modern period. After first providing a textual genealogy, I argue that this concept reveals the dominant paradigm of scientific thinking during this period.

Having completed his primary and secondary edu- cation in Ankara, he studied arts at Istanbul's Mimar Sinan University and philosophy at Istanbul University. Since the 1980s, he has published many books on political, scientific, and faith-related issues. Harun Yahya is well- known as the author of important works disclosing the imposture of evolu- tionists, their invalid claims, and the dark liaisons between Darwinism and such bloody ideologies as fascism and communism. Harun Yahya's works, translated into 60 different languages, constitute a collection for a total of more than 45,000 pages with 30,000 illustrations. His pen-name is a composite of the names Harun (Aaron) and Yahya (John), in memory of the two esteemed Prophets who fought against their peoples' lack of faith.
