VEGAS PBS CELEBRATES NATIONAL HISPANIC HEARITAGE MONTH WITH NEW SERIES & SPECIAL PROGRAMMING New Series ‘Latino Americans’ & Sesame Street Highlight Programming (Las Vegas) – In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, Vegas PBS Channel 10 will debut a brand new series, Latino Americans, a landmark three-part, six-hour documentary series narrated by actor Benjamin Bratt, on three consecutive Tuesdays - September 17, September 24 and October 1 - at 8 p.m. The series will also be broadcast in Spanish on Vegas PBS Vme, the Spanish-language channel on public television, over six consecutive Fridays beginning on September 20. Vegas PBS Vme is available on broadcast channel 10.3, 113 Cox Cable, 9414 HD Dish, 846 DishLATINO, and 11 Prism. Latino Americans is the first major documentary series for television to chronicle the rich and varied history and experiences of Latinos, who have for the past 500-plus years helped shape what is today the United States and have become, with more than 50 million people, the largest minority group in the U.S. A preview of the series is available at http://video.VegasPBS.org/video/2365047353/. Latino Americans is led by Emmy Award-winning series producer Adriana Bosch and documents the evolution of a new “Latino American” identity from the 1500s to the present day, featuring interviews with close to 100 Latinos from the worlds of politics, business and pop culture — including Herman Badillo, Dolores Huerta, Gloria Estefan and Rita Moreno — as well as deeply personal portraits of lesser-known Latinos who lived through key chapters in American history. In addition, a companion book by Ray Suarez, Senior Correspondent for PBS NewsHour will be released to coincide with the series and will be available in both English and Spanish. It may be pre-ordered now, and will go on-sale September 3. Sesame Street’s 44th season, set to air on September 16, is also recognizing National Hispanic Heritage Month by introducing a new Latino neighbor Armando or “Mando,” to join Elmo, Cookie Monster, Rosita and all the residents of the neighborhood. Additionally, the new season will have a special focus on Hispanic heritage with many new songs and lessons. Played by Ismael Cruz Córdova, a writer from Puerto Rico, “Mando” will join Maria (played by Sonia Manzano), Luis (Emilio Delgado) and Muppets™ Rosita and Ovejita (Carmen Osbahr) as part of Sesame Street’s bilingual community.
