Združuje že obstoječe družbeno-znanstvene projekte in usklajuje raziskovalne cilje ter tako dodaja posameznim nacionalnim raziskavam mednarodni in medkulturni vidik. Vsaka posamezna raziskava (tematski modul) se ukvarja z določeno družboslovno tematiko. Tako raziskave ISSP do sedaj vsebujejo vprašanja o odnosu posameznika do številnih družbenih tem, kot so: okolje, vloga vlade, družbene neenakosti, socialno podporo, družina in spolne vloge, delo in delovne usmeritve, religija, državljanstvo, nacionalna identiteta, zdravje in zdravstveni sistem. Respondente sprašuje o vlogah moških in žensk pri zaposlitvi in v gospodinjstvu, po stališčih do zaposlitev žensk med vzgajanjem otroka, do 4 sklenitve zakonske zveze, sožitja brez zakonske zveze in ločitev, do alternativnih družinskih oblik, idealnega števila otrok ter pomena otrok v življenju. V nadaljevanju sprašuje o stališčih do plačanega starševskega dopusta, o organizaciji družinskega in poklicnega življenja med starševstvom, financiranju otroškega varstva, podpori za starostnike ter o delitvi dolžnosti v gospodinjstvu. Respondenti ocenjujejo stres, ki ga povzročajo družina in gospodinjska opravila ter odgovarjajo na vprašanja v zvezi z osebnim zdravstvenim stanjem, splošnim zadovoljstvom v življenju ter zadovoljstvom z zaposlitvenim položajem in družinskim življenjem. Demografski sklop vključuje vprašanja o starosti respondenta, spolu, izobrazbi, zaposlitvi, poklicu, zakonskem statusu, o članstvu v sindikatu, verskem prepričanju, volilni udeležbi na zadnjih volitvah, voljeni stranki (levo-desno), o narodnosti,

    CHAPTER IV DOMESTIC POLITICS, MILITARY CAPABILITY, AND INTERNATIONAL CONTEXT FACTOR THAT INFLUENCED SOUTH KOREA UNDER MOON JAE IN ADMINISTRATION REORIENTED TO SUNSHINE POLICY The issues related to South Korea and North Korea is such interesting topic to be discussed in International Relations Studies. As two neighbouring countries that share same ethnics, language, and history, the action and reaction that these two states take are always becoming highlight. Especially, its foreign policy, as foreign policy is a tool of a nation-state to achieve its national interest. South Korea as discussed in the previous chapters, had implemented several different foreign policies toward North Korea. Sunshine Policy has become one of the most influential foreign policy for South Korea that had been used as foundation for South Korea’s action and reaction toward North Korea. After only been implemented on Kim Dae Jung (1998-2003) and Roh Moo Hyun (2003-2008), South Korea did not use Sunshine Policy anymore. In the period of 2008-2013, South Korea implemented Hard-Line Policy or known as “Vision 3000: Denuclearization and Openness” which focusing on strengthening military alliance with U.S and Japan and at the same time urge North Korea to denuclearize instead of giving economic aid. At this point, President Lee’s foreign policy approach was clearly contrast compared to Sunshine Policy— giving financial help first then pursuing talks. After Lee Myung Bak era, a new foreign policy approach called Trustpolitik Policy had been used by South Korea under Park Geun Hye (2013-2017) where South Korea was being flexible that it could be tough and strict toward North Korea yet it would pursue negotiation with North Korea if its needed.

April 22, 2019 Signature Date STUDYING HANJA-BASED SYLLABLES IMPROVES KOREAN VOCABULARY 2 RETENTION Abstract Half of Korean vocabulary consists of Sino-Korean words, or words that originated with Chinese characters, which are referred to as hanja in the Korean context. Each hanja-based syllable of a Sino-Korean word has a fixed semantic meaning, but given the large number of homophonous syllables, the definitions of individual syllables are not readily transparent to most learners without direct instruction. This pilot study investigates the benefits of teaching non-Sinosphere Korean second language learners the sound-to-meaning relationship of individual hanja-based syllables, e.g., teaching students that the hanja syllable su/수 is the phonetic pronunciation of the hanja for water. Over the course of a semester, learners were taught the definitions of hanja- based syllables found in course readings. At the end of the semester, students were assessed on their ability to memorize and recall a short set of words, half of which contained hanja-based syllables taught in class. On average, students correctly recalled more words if they contained a hanja syllable taught in class. This study provides evidence that teaching the meaning of hanja syllables can help students retain new vocabulary over a short period of time and raises the possibility that hanja syllables should be included in Korean vocabulary education.
