ABSTRACT Aim: The present study has been taken up to observe the branching pattern of internal iliac artery and its importance for the clinicians in their respective fields. Methodology: 45 pelvic halves were studied from dissected cadavers. The branches of gluteal arteries were traced carefully by separating the connective tissue surrounding the arteries. Result: In 4 cadavers, inferior gluteal artery was given off in the gluteal region, in 1 case it is given off from posterior division of internal iliac artery. In 1 case superior gluteal arose in common with internal pudendal artery. Conclusion: Vascular variations in the gluteal region are important for surgeons and anatomists. Under the auspices of the World Association of Veterinary Anatomists (W.A.V.A.), the International Committee on Veterinary Anatomical Nomenclature (I.C.V.A.N.) appointed in Giessen, 1965, a Subcommittee on Histology and Embryology which started a working relation with the Subcommittee on Histology of the former International Anatomical Nomenclature Committee. In Mexico City, 1971, this Subcommittee presented a document entitled Nomina Histologica Veterinaria: A Working Draft as a basis for the continued work of the newly-appointed Subcommittee on Histological Nomenclature. This resulted in the editing of the Nomina Histologica Veterinaria: A Working Draft II (Toulouse, 1974), followed by preparations for publication of a Nomina Histologica Veterinaria. -

Goodarzi2 1Department of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Tabriz, Tabriz, Iran 2Department of Basic Sciences, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Razi University, Kermanshah, Iran [Received: 7 June 2017; Accepted: 11 September 2017] This study was conducted to depict anatomical characteristics of the penis of he- dgehog. Seven sexually mature male European hedgehogs were used. Following anaesthesia, the animals were scarified with chloroform inhalation. Gross penile characteristics such as length and diameter were thoroughly explored and measu- red using digital callipers. Tissue samples stained with haematoxylin and eosin and Masson’s trichrome for microscopic analysis. The penis of the European hedgehog was composed of a pair of corpus cavernosum penis and the glans penis without corpus spongiosum penis. The urethra at the end of penis, protruded as urethral process, on both sides of which two black nail-like structures, could be observed. The lower part was rounded forming a blind sac (sacculus urethralis) with a me- dian split below the urethra. Microscopically, the penile bulb lacked the corpus spongiosum penis, but, corpus spongiosum glans was seen at the beginning of the free part. -

ABSTRACT Background: The obturator artery normally arises from the anterior trunk of internal iliac artery. High frequency of variations in its origin and course has drawn attention of pelvic surgeons, anatomists and radiologists. Normally, artery inclines anteroinferiorly on the lateral pelvic wall to the upper part of obturator foramen. The obturator artery may origin individually or with the iliolumbar or the superior gluteal branch of the posterior division of the internal iliac artery. However, the literature contains many articles that report variable origins. Interesting variations in the origin and course of the principal arteries have long attracted the attention of anatomists and surgeons. Methods: 50 adult human pelvic halves were procured from embalmed cadavers of J.J.M. Medical College and S.S.I.M.S & R.C, Davangere, Karnataka, India for the study. Results: The obturator artery presents considerable variation in its origin. It took origin most frequently from the anterior division of internal iliac artery in 36 specimens (72%). Out of which, directly from anterior division in 20 specimens (40%), with ilio-lumbar artery in 5 specimens (10%), with inferior gluteal artery in 3 specimens (6%), with inferior vesical artery in 2 specimens (4%), with middle rectal artery in 1 specimen (2%), with internal pudendal artery in 4 specimens (8%) and with uterine artery in 1 specimen (2%). -
