04 DEC 1996 Zaleha-Violence SOME 144 CASES REPORTED SINCE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ACT ENFORCED KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- A total of 144 cases have been reported since the Domestic Violence Act came into force last June, and two of the victims were men, National Unity and Community Development Minister Datin Paduka Hajjah Zaleha Ismail said here. All these cases were handled by the Social Welfare Department (SWD), she said, adding that over 400 domestic violence cases, mostly those occuring in major towns, were also reported to the police. Of the total, 24 victims sought interim protection order (IPO) from the court, she told a press conference here today. She added that 21 victims were also given protection, 12 cases referred to the kadi, 86 cases given counselling, and five cases were told to live apart. From the racial breakdown, Zaleha said 55 victims were Indians, 51 Malays, 34 Chinese and nine were other races. She said Kuala Lumpur had the largest number of 46 cases, followed by Selangor, 42, Pulau Pinang, 18, and Kedah, 10, while other states had less than five cases each. For IPO applications, she said Selangor had the highest number, 10, followed by Kuala Lumpur with seven cases, Pualu Pinang, four, and Melaka only three. Zaleha explained that the objective of the act was to pacify a quarreling family and to prevent the problem from dragging. On the fifth Meeting of Commonwealth Ministers Responsible for Women's Affairs in Trinidad and Tobago last week, she said Malaysia would act in concert with the action plan discussed at the meeting. Malaysia had full suppport from all quarters, especially the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad, to implement the plan. Among the measures to be taken were the strengthening of the familly institution, health, education and training, closer rapport with non-governmental organisations and other assisstance for women, like getting more to be involved in the economic sector, she added. -- BERNAMA RHM AR AO.

27 MAY 1997 Anwar-Election BY-ELECTIONS IN KUALA SELANGOR NO ORDINARY AFFAIR, SAYS ANWAR KUALA SELANGOR, May 27 (Bernama) -- Acting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the by-elections in Kuala Selangor is not an ordinary by-election as it will elect the new head of the Selangor state government. As such, the Barisan Nasional (BN) machinery in the Kuala Selangor division, should work hard to woo support to ensure victory of BN candidates contesting in Permatang state seat and Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat. "If the federal government and party leadership showed continued commitment, I feel the locals should feel more responsible not only to ensure victory but to lend solid and total support," he said when addressing the Kuala Selangor BN by-election machinery here today. Anwar, who is also Acting Umno president, referred to the Permatang state seat contested by Datuk Abu Hassan Omar, who had been named as the new Selangor Menteri Besar and Datuk Jamaluddin Adnan fielded in the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat. The by-elections are held when Abu Hassan and Jamaluddin resigned simultaneously on May 2 in a direct swap of seats when Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad named Abu Hassan as Selangor Menteri Besar. Under the Selangor State Constitution, a Menteri Besar must be a member of the State Legislative Assembly. Abu Hassan, who also resigned as Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister on May 2, was then incumbent Kuala Selangor MP. Abu Hassan is locked in a straight fight with PAS' Haji Mohd Maskuri Haji Mardzuki while Jamaluddin is up against Ahmad Alang, also from PAS.

It also sets a standard by which the quality of thesis/dissertation output in IIUM can be maintained. Therefore, students and supervisors are recommended to become thoroughly familiar with the contents of this manual before embarking on the thesis/dissertation. As it contained guidelines that have been approved by all the Kulliyyahs, at various stages of its preparation, it should precede all other manuals. We are pleased you are contributing towards the realization of the IIUM’s academic identity. The manual contains seven parts. Part 1 provides a description of the general requirements of a thesis/dissertation produced in the IIUM, which should be useful to the postgraduate student. Part 2 is on formatting of the thesis/dissertation which the student will find necessary at the end of the thesis/dissertation writing prior to submission. Part 3 is a guide on how to enter Arab, Malaysian and Indonesian names in the bibliography list. Part 4 provides an Arabic transliteration scheme, particularly useful for the Islamic Revealed Knowledge (IRK) students who wish to write their thesis/dissertation in English. Part 5 and 6 provide a detailed explanation on how to deal with in-text citations and Part 7 shows how bibliography entries should be presented. Appendices are presented as much as possible, in each step of the thesis/dissertation preparation, to provide examples which the students may follow.

BAB 3 CALON WANITA MUSLIM YANG MENYERTAI PILIHAN RAYA UMUM DARI TAHUN 1959-2008 DI SEMENANJUNG MALAYSIA Bab ini menyenaraikan kesemua calon wanita Muslim yang menyertai PRU dari tahun 1959 sehingga 2008 di Semenanjung Malaysia bagi kerusi DUN dan Parlimen. Penjelasan ini akan merangkumi sebelas negeri di Semenanjung Malaysia termasuk Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur dan Wilayah Persekutuan Putrajaya. Pencalonan wanita Muslim pada peringkat awal bagi semua negeri di Semenanjung Malaysia ternyata memberikan suatu perubahan yang besar dalam politik. Di dalam sejarah, telah tercatat bahawa wanita Muslim merupakan golongan yang terawal menonjolkan diri dalam parti politik. Walaupun demikian, mereka mula melibatkan diri dalam pilihan raya yang diadakan pada tahun 1959. Manakala calon wanita yang bukan beragama Islam pula telah pun berada dalam senarai pencalonan pada peringkat awal pilihan raya yang dijalankan sebelum Malaysia mencapai kemerdekaan. Meskipun begitu, golongan wanita Muslim akhirnya mengambil bahagian dalam proses pencalonan pilihan raya sehinggalah ke hari ini. Penyertaan calon-calon wanita Muslim ini ternyata memberi satu impak yang luar biasa berikutan pembaharuan- pembaharuan yang telah dilaksanakan setakat ini. Oleh itu, berikut adalah senarai pencalonan calon wanita Muslim dari tahun 1959 sehingga tahun 2008 bagi semua negeri di Semenanjung Malaysia meliputi kerusi DUN dan Parlimen. 54 3.1 Johor Johor Darul Ta‟zim merupakan negeri yang terletak di selatan Semenanjung Malaysia. Negeri yang mempunyai 10 daerah ini bersempadan dengan tiga negeri lain iaitu Melaka, Negeri Sembilan dan juga Pahang. 28 OCT 1997 Mahathir-Slovenia MALAYSIA AND SLOVENIA SIGN AIR TREATY By: Zainoor Sulaiman LJUBLJANA, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Slovenia today signed an air traffic agreement to step up economic and cultural ties between the two countries. The agreement was signed by Malaysia's Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik and Slovenia's Transport and Telecommunications Minister Anton Bergaeur. The ceremony at the Grand Hall of the Presidential Palace here was witnessed by the Prime Ministers of the two countries, Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Dr Janez Drnovsek. The agreement allows Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Slovenia Adria Airways to operate between Kuala Lumpur and Ljubljana. MAS already has services to cities in neighbouring countries of Slovenia like Zagreb (Croatia), Vienna (Austria) and Rome (Italy). Dr Mahathir, leading a 45-member delegation that includes businessmen, arrived here from Edinburgh last night to begin a three-day official visit to the Adriatic nation. He was met at Brnik airport, 15km from here, by Dr Drnovsek and after a ceremonial welcome was taken to Brado Castle, where he and his wife will reside during the visit. Dr Mahathir had a meeting with Dr Drnovsek at the Governmental Palace before heading the Malaysian side at delegation-level talks. The Malaysian delegation included Dr Ling, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, National Unity and Social Development Minister Datin Paduka Zaleha Ismail, Pahang Menteri Besar Tan Sri Khalil Yaakob, Deputy Works Minister Datuk Railey Jeffrey and Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Environment Datuk Abu Bakar Daud.
