ROMEO & JULIET by Charles Gounod (sung in French)

Based on William Shakespeare's tragic love story, Gounod's opera centers around a long-standing feud between two of Verona's wealthiest families, the Capulets and the Montagues. A sparkling, vibrant love develops between two of the children. In secret, the young lovers marry. And in that joyful union the seeds of sorrow are sown...their tragic course revealed.

Gounod's lush score brings the romance to life in this timeless masterpiece. Often parodied in sitcoms and movies, this work was the basis for Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story.

Romeo & Juliet's OFE performance will be held on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at 7:00pm.

LA TRAVIATA by Giuseppi Verdi (sung in Italian, 3 Acts)

La Dames aux Camelias, a semi-autobiographical play by Alexandre Dumas, fils, is the basis of this opera.

Alfredo falls deeply in love with the courtesan Violetta. The young man convinces her of his sincerity and the two become a couple. They move to the suburbs, but Violetta's past gets in the way of family matters, and she sacrifices their relationship for Alfredo's family. The couple is later united, but it's too late, as the young woman is near death from consumption. This work is an audience favorite for its compelling story and masterful music, and helps launch the realism movement in opera.

La Traviata's OFE performance will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2018 at 7:00pm. Operatunities

Designed for High School and college students interested in the arts, the Opera For Everyone Intern Program allows participants a hands-on experience working with a professional opera company. Positions vary in the type of time commitment and activity performed but ALL positions require individuals who are very responsible and reliable. Participants in most areas of the program are given assignments that are directly related to the success of a given production and/or performance. A short description of each area follows:

Wigs & Makeup Must attend several workshops with wig and makeup technicians. Interns are assigned to work on at least one production and must be available for all dress rehearsals and performances.

Supernumerary Must be available for evening and weekend rehearsals and for all performances of a show. (Supernumeraries will be on stage during the OFE evening.)

Office Experience working in the HOT offices. Mostly clerical but other experiences as well. Must be available for a set time each week. May also be assigned back stage duties during performances.

Other Interns have been included in other areas depending upon experience, desire and availability. Please inquire if there is an interest in something that we have not listed.

If students are interested in this opportunity and are very responsible and reliable, please feel free to nominate them. It is best to nominate students soon after receiving this mailing. We often have more students apply than we can accommodate, and the more popular areas are taken very quickly.
