The Central Projection collective consists of DJ's / Producers Tidal, Jay Le Roc & MC Smilee. It is the name given to the group and also the name for their deep drum ‘n’ bass night called 'Central Projection'.

The night is intrinsically linked with Tidal + Galaxi's Advection music Imprint, which together has already featured in Knowledge Mag (September '06) and again in (January '07). Central Projection has also featured as the 'Best night in the Midlands' in July's DJ Mag 2005.

On an International level, DJ Galaxi from Advection Music and Pete Rann (Good Looking Records) also join part of the roster exclusively for the ‘Central Projection USA / Europe tours’.

The original unit formed back in Summer 2004, in an effort to put on regular 'Deep + Progres- sive' drum 'n' bass nights in the Midlands (UK). The intention was never to become promoters, but in effect they had to create a scene to play out at.

This had resulted in the team organising a string of successful nights in Birmingham City.

Later on in 2004 Central Projection were honoured to host their first residency @ Progression Sessions alongside the Good Looking Records Crew. LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad, in Birmingham November 2004 @ The Medicine Bar.

The residency continued in 2005 which saw DJ Galaxi perform as a special guest alongside Catch 22, LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad and Central Projection.

Last years Progression Sessions event in Birmingham (2006) saw Central Projection playing alongside DJ Tayla, LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad, in another sold out show.

The residency at the Hotfoot hosted 'Progression Sessions' night in Birmingham has now been running for 3 years with CP, and has seen the crew’s transition from warm up, to high profile sets alongside some of the scenes top names.

Pete Rann first got into music around the mid eighties listening to hip-hop and electro, around this time he caught the Dj bug and bought his first pair of decks around 1989. A real hip-hop head up until that time, it was when went to his first with some school mates that changed that. Hearing the early sounds of and , Pete was hooked. He started going raving week in week out, mainly to free parties but some of the big events around London too. He also started getting more into djing, buy- ing all the early euro/bleep techno and hardcore of the early 90s, and early Rein- forced tracks being favourites.

Eventually when Jungle/ evolved from the hardcore scene, Pete found himself heavily into the sound going up to London week in week out, record shopping in Blackmarket and Unity. Al- though into the hard sound of jungle, he found himself being more accustomed to the musical side, lis- tening to early Bukem, Skanna, 4 Hero and Nookie. It was at Fabio and Bukems` club `Speed` that Pete really found his sound. He also became a regular at the Infamous nights at the Blue Note. Around that time, he bought his first sampler and started writing tunes but Djing was still a priority.

Although some of his first tunes were not Drum and Bass, he sent a demo to Blame after seeing him ask- ing for demos in an issue of Future music. Blame gave him a really positive response saying it was the best demo he`d heard for a while and that he wanted to hear the sound in D+B format. Inspired by this, having moved back to London by now, Pete knuckled down in the studio, many sleepless nights were spent getting to know the gear and producing tracks. After a year or so, he decided to send a demo to Goodlooking records. A few days later he received a phone call from LTJ Bukem who signed them to the label. Since then Pete`s had four releases on GLR and has recorded for Brighton downtempo label Tru-Thoughts, also Fokuz, Camino Blue and Nu-Directions.
