CP Tour X.Pub CENTRAL PROJECTION WEST COAST MINI TOUR 2007 // PRESS KIT ARTISTS AVAILABLE:- GALAXI - TIDAL - JAY LE ROC MC SMILEE - PETE RANN DEEP + PROGRESSIVE DRUM 'N' BASS CENTRAL PROJECTION 2007 // WEST COAST TOUR | PRESS KIT The Central Projection collective consists of DJ's / Producers Tidal, Jay Le Roc & MC Smilee. It is the name given to the group and also the name for their deep drum ‘n’ bass night called 'Central Projection'. The night is intrinsically linked with Tidal + Galaxi's Advection music Imprint, which together has already featured in Knowledge Mag (September '06) and again in (January '07). Central Projection has also featured as the 'Best night in the Midlands' in July's DJ Mag 2005. On an International level, DJ Galaxi from Advection Music and Pete Rann (Good Looking Records) also join part of the roster exclusively for the ‘Central Projection USA / Europe tours’. The original unit formed back in Summer 2004, in an effort to put on regular 'Deep + Progres- sive' drum 'n' bass nights in the Midlands (UK). The intention was never to become promoters, but in effect they had to create a scene to play out at. This had resulted in the team organising a string of successful nights in Birmingham City. Later on in 2004 Central Projection were honoured to host their first residency @ Progression Sessions alongside the Good Looking Records Crew. LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad, in Birmingham November 2004 @ The Medicine Bar. The residency continued in 2005 which saw DJ Galaxi perform as a special guest alongside Catch 22, LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad and Central Projection. Last years Progression Sessions event in Birmingham (2006) saw Central Projection playing alongside DJ Tayla, LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad, in another sold out show. The residency at the Hotfoot hosted 'Progression Sessions' night in Birmingham has now been running for 3 years with CP, and has seen the crew’s transition from warm up, to high profile sets alongside some of the scenes top names. CENTRAL PROJECTION 2007 // WEST COAST TOUR | PRESS KIT Combining years of experienced DJing & MCing skills, CP are rapidly becoming a recognised voice for Deeper Drum 'n' Bass in the Midlands, and the collective so far has successfully had dates in London, Europe and the USA. Some of special guests from previous Central Projection nights include:- PFM, Makoto & Deeizm, Future Engineers, Blame & MC DRS, Nookie, Big Bud, Blu Mar Ten, Qumulus, Insiders, Pariah, Pete Rann, just to name a few. Central Projection believe in pushing deep, progressive quality drum 'n' bass to the masses, in scene which is ever evolving. Always moving your mind as well as your body. Central Projection Goes International (2006) In the Summer of 2006 Central Projection debuted internationally in New York City. At the famous drum 'n' bass night called ‘Camouflage'. Hosted by resident DJ's Christian Bruna. The night featured set's from Christian Bruna, Tidal, Jay Le Roc and MC Smilee; and was definitely a high point in 2006. The collective then performed over in San Francisco, with two other dates; The first being a radio show feature on KUSF (Future Breaks) alongside DJ M (Still Doin' It) and JUJU (Phuturo). The second was a Central Projection showcase at IL Pirita hosted by (DJ Munk from Silent D&B). DJ Profiles: 2007 // WEST COAST TOUR | PRESS KIT (JUNE 28th - JULY 8th) JAY LE ROC’s first experienced DJing back in 1989 at the age of 17, playing out at many memorable house parties in Birmingham (UK). The real transition into Jungle / Drum ‘n’ Bass came when he was introduced to the sounds of LTJ Bukem & MC Conrad in 1996. By 1997 Jay was on the local circuit, where he was offered to play on the legendary pirate radio station ‘Kool Fm Midlands’ every Sunday morning playing deep and progressive drum & bass on his ‘Atmospheric Funk Show.’ In 1999 Jay was then offered to play on another radio station called Sweet Fm this time playing nu jazz, broken beats, hip hop, deep house and drum bass. This show was called ‘Phunky Dimensions’ and was on every sunday evening, but unfortunately both stations were pulled off air at the same time and ended in 2001. Jay has been fortunate enough to have enjoyed his first international outing last year in 2006, when he played in New York & San Francisco. That year also saw the return of Jay on the radio. Presenting on New Style Radio, the only Legal drum ‘n’ bass show in the Midlands alongside DJ’s Tidal, Lubi J & Xtract. In all this Jay has progressed to playing alongside some of the top names scene, such as London Elektricity, Commix, DJ Tayla, Mickey Finn, Pariah, Grooverider, LTJ Bukem, Blame, Logistics, Cedar and many others. Spreading the deep vibes of drum ‘n’ bass. DJ Profiles: 2007 // WEST COAST TOUR | PRESS KIT (JUNE 28th - JULY 8th) MC SMILEE has been representing the drum & bass Midlands scene on the microphone for years. Before getting his break into the scene as a MC, Smilee worked behind the scenes for the legendary Kool FM Midlands & Music First events. This gave MC SMILEE the schooling required to understand how the drum & bass industry worked and gained valuable experience and the network to make it happen. Along the years as a MC, Smilee has shared the stage with some of the best MC’s in the business the likes of GQ, Conrad, Biggie, Foxy, Warren G, Imperial LP & has also found the mic in his hand hosting sets for the likes of SS, Kenny Ken, Hazard, Bailey, Nicky Blackmarket, JB & Spice just to name a few. It was when Smilee formed a partnership with DJ Jay Le Roc did the whole music level flip into the deeper progressive sound. Since this partnership formed and the link with DJ Tidal and the creation of Central Projection. Mc Smilee has become a proud resident at LTJ Bukem’s Progression Sessions (in Birmingham), and once again worked with some of the best names in business; artists like PFM, Nookie, Tayla, Insiders, Future Engineers, Blu Mar Ten, Pete Rann, Big Bud, Pariah, Deeizm etc. MC Smilee is the only MC in the Midlands to host a Legal Drum & Bass radio show called ‘System Check’ on New Style Radio in Birmingham City. He has recently made his international Debut in New York City & San Francisco USA & featured on KUSF Radio (Future Breaks Show). From Mc Smilee you can expect a blend of hosting, crowd hype and dance lyrics with a touch of reality and unity. DJ Profiles: 2007 // WEST COAST TOUR | PRESS KIT (JUNE 28th - JULY 8th) Pete Rann first got into music around the mid eighties listening to hip-hop and electro, around this time he caught the Dj bug and bought his first pair of decks around 1989. A real hip-hop head up until that time, it was when went to his first rave with some school mates that changed that. Hearing the early sounds of acid house and techno, Pete was hooked. He started going raving week in week out, mainly to free parties but some of the big events around London too.

  • Benny L Scores Beatport's First-Ever Drum & Bass No. 1
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BENNY L SCORES BEATPORT’S FIRST-EVER DRUM & BASS NO. 1 BERLIN, DE - January 17, 2019 - London-based DJ and producer Benny L has made Beatport history with the first-ever Drum & Bass track to reach No. 1 on the store’s overall Top 100. Released January 11, exclusively on Beatport, Benny L’s remix of the John Holt reggae classic ‘Police In Helicopter’ swiftly hit No. 1 in Drum & Bass. From there, it climbed to the overall No. 1 spot, leading a Top 10 otherwise dominated by Beatport’s various house and techno genres. The genre’s first-ever Beatport No. 1 comes via London’s long-running Hospital Records as part of its ‘Sick Music 2019’ series, which also features releases from scene luminaries such as London Elektricity, Fred V and Logistics. Benny L, whose releases have previously appeared on labels like Metalheadz and AudioPorn Records, won Best Newcomer at the recent Drum&BassArena Awards. His ‘Police In Helicopter’ remix started life as a much in-demand dubplate, which he shared with only a select few peers. After building steam in the sets of bass heavyweights last summer, its official release was keenly anticipated by DJs. "Hospital hit me up about doing a remix for a forthcoming project and ‘Police In Helicopter’ was on the list, so I went for it,” Benny L explained to Beatport. “It all came together pretty quickly, and I was very happy with the mixdown.” “Even after a few months, the reaction was incredible, with DJs such as Randall, Shy FX, Andy C and Friction playing it,” he added.

I’ve never known any other type of music to get so misconstrued by its name.’ (Rob Playford, 1996) Of all of the dance music genres, none has been surrounded with quite so much controversy over its name than jungle. No sooner had it been coined than exponents of the scene were up in arms about the racist implications. Arguments raged over who rst used the term and many others simply refused to acknowledge the existence of the moniker. It wasn’t the rst time that jungle had been used as a way to describe a sound. Kool and the Gang had called their 1973 funk standard Jungle Boogie, while an instrumental version with an overdubbed ute part and additional percussion instruments was titled Jungle Jazz. The song ends with a Tarzan yell and features grunting, panting and scatting throughout.

Though anecdotal evidence exists, such claims by, or about, these ‘Clever Children’ have not been adequately substantiated and are indicative of a loss of history in relation to electronic music forms (referred to hereafter as Electronica) in popular culture. With the emergence of the Clever Children there is a pressing need to redress this loss of history through academic scholarship that seeks to document and critically reflect on the rhizomatic developments of Electronica and its place within the history of twentieth century music.
