This is the sixth and also the last number of Sagittarius Newsletter. The project will finish at the end of May 2014. This means the conclusion of all project partners’ activities. In the latest newsletter we would like to present you the most important results that partners from 8 countries of South Eastern Europe have prepared and achieved in the three-year of implementation period of the Sagittarius project.

1. FIFTH TRANSNATIONAL PROJECT MEETING AND SIXTH STUDY VISIT IN PTUJ

Sagittarius project partners have meet the fifth time in Slovenia on 4th and 5th of November 2013. The host of the project meeting was E-institution Ptuj and it took place in Grand Hotel Primus in Ptuj.

1.1 Fifth Transnational Project Partners Meeting (Ptuj)

The representatives of all project partners came to the project meeting, and together we were 30 participants. All present were welcomed by Darko Ferčej the director of E- Institute Ptuj. Then the official program of the meeting started. We discussed several topics, as the project moved into the final implementation phase, where all project partners should demonstrate their partial project results and integrate them into common project outputs.

First, we examine the so far results and physical indicators of the project. The review and discussion was moderated by the project manager Dorothea Papathanasiou - Zuhrt. The focal point of the discussion was Roving museum. This will be a portable structure that will have images, text and QR codes. The form and substance should be ready by the end of year 2013. Roving museum will consist of five components, as follows: a portable structure (110 bilateral panels in English and local language), QR codes (110 QR codes published in Pinterest), the involvement of social media (space with 110 sites from 8 countries), APP and game.

International game will be consists of APP information from all partners. Quality Control Committee agreed that all outputs should guarantee minimum quality standards. APP should lead visitors to sights, to which they get through scan of desired location of the Roving museum. It shall produce the visitation and consumption motive for0 located and dislocated audiences.

Fifth Transnational Project Meeting Fifth Transnational Project Meeting

An important result of the project will be the exhibition of bilateral panels of Roving museum. Photographs shall be elaborated by professional photographers and follow the template style, as provided by the LP. The story of each heritage asset should be written in brief (no more than 300 to 400 words). Longer stories (full stories) should be uploaded and presented through QC codes. Each panel unit should establish a cognitive emotional experience.

Then followed the presentations of good practice cases implemented by three project partners. Professor Valentine Vasile presented the Pilot project "In(di)visible Bucharest - History and Culture” and the game "Prince Vlad Dracula", prepared by the project partners from Bucharest. Luisa Kausch presented the Pilot project - an example of good practice "Puzzle it: Abruzzo Design with a finger", prepared by the project partner PP2 from . Luca Giocoli presented the Pilot project, designed by project partner PP3 from the region of - "Compitum Europeae, Locus paciis."

One of the project results is launching the non-governmental organizations Sagittarius. The headquarter of the organization will be in Guilmi in Italy and it should be established in accordance with Italian law. Therefore, Luisa Kausch presented the necessary procedures for the establishment. Project partner PP2 will prepare statute and founding act, which will be signed by all project partners.

On the meeting, we reviewed the financial report of the project and subsequent spending. At the same time our financial manager pointed out the preparation of a new interim report, and the most common mistakes in reporting from the past periods.

1.2 Sixth Transnational Study Visit (Castle Rače)

Next day we have the study visit. We drive to castle Rače, one of Slovene heritage trail location. Castle Rače is an example of the flat land island or water castle. The history of the building extends into the first half of 16th century. His owner between year 1668 and 1671 was Count Ivan Erazem Tattenbach, one of the conspirators in historic conspiracy against Emperor Leopold the 1th of Habsburg, which failed. All conspirators were beheaded.

Study visit in Castle Rače “Last conspiracy” game

Interesting conspiracy story was the basis for the game “Last conspiracy” that all participants of study visit have played in the castle. We determined the course of the game, the incident and the task of searching the conspiracy letter and a traitor of the plot by using QR codes and tablet computers. The game provided elements of surprises, innovation and emotional intelligence. The duration of the game was congruent with the principle of the Interpretation of Heritage and the

Human Cognitive Architecture. The story narrative was successfully embedded in to the locations and the local stakeholder map has been actively supporting. The game implementation was well- coordinated and the roles were evenly spread among skills and generations.

Unfortunately, we were accompanied by bad weather so we visited another Slovene heritage trail location Landscape park “Rački ponds” with the bus.

In the afternoon we returned to the hotel Primus and continued with partner meeting. Partners had projects’ Steering Committee Meeting, Quality Control Committee Meeting and Technical Committee Meeting. Throughout the committees discussion about the coordination of the individual partners and between all project partners held. We were looking for solutions for project activities in default, in particular, to plan upcoming activities and events. IPA partner from Croatia will prepare a booklet "The Project’s Interpretive Guide Book". All partners will be informed about the contributions that we have to prepare to be included into the guide book.

We devoted most of time to preparations for the projects final conference, which will be held in Potenza, Basilicata region in Italy from 11th to 14th of April 2014. Mountain Community Alto Basento from Potenza will organize the conference. We talked about the conference program and the collection of scientific papers for the conference with the title "Heritage as a smart growth resource – a driver for sustainable development and economic recovery". 3.7 Study visits Similarly, as in all previous project partners’ meetings, the organizer of the international conference arranged the study visits, as part of the learning process within the project Sagittarius.

On the second day of the international conference, we have visited the Museum of the castle Lagopesole, in which we had the conference.

The museum, the entire collection of objects and interesting stories are associated with Frederik II, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Italy. In his time from 1242 to 1250 the castle got its present appearance. In those days it served as hunting departure place for the Imperial court. In recent years the museum introduced a number of innovative approaches also with the help of EU funds. With them they want to attract more visitors, especially the younger generation and give them a direct and scenic way to present an interesting history of

Museum of Castle Lagopesole the castle and its surroundings.

On the third day after the conference conclusion we went to visit interesting town Matera in the Basilicata region. Town is known for its picturesque sassi district, a large ravine with cave dwellings and small churches dug into the soft limestone. The sassi (translation = rock) date from prehistoric times and were used as housing until the 1950's when residents, primarily living in poverty stricken conditions, were relocated. Matera has entered Unesco's World Heritage list in year 1993. One of the main reasons for the inclusion on the list is the enormous rainwater

collection system, another reason is of course the age - the oldest inhabited parts date from the Palaeolithic period, and are thought to be among the first human settlements on the entire peninsula. Several caves have been carefully restored, parts as museum, but most as proper homes, or as holiday homes, small businesses and hotels.

Visit of the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta Visit of ancient town of Matera e San Canio in Acerenza

Forth day was entirely dedicated to study visits. We visited three locations: town of Acerenza with Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta e San Canio, town of Pietragalla with complex of caves for vine storage Palmenti and two villages and in Dolomiti Lucane.

First we visited the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta e San Canio in the heart of town Acerenza. It is built on a preexisting paleo-Christian church that was also built on a Roman Temple of “Ercole Acheruntino”. Its beginnings date back to year 1080, period of archbishop Arnand of Cluny. The architectural features are referring to several artistic styles which are Norman-Romanesque with some gothic influences on the façade. The numerous apses, more visible from the outside, refer to the architectural style of the Abbey of Cluny and this feature highlights this cathedral as the only example of a Romanesque-Cluniac architectural style reached to our days still intact. The Chatedrale in today’s shape was built in the 1524, by the noble family of Ferrillo-Balsa. From this Cathedral, the powerful diocese of Acerenza ruled the territory. For this reason it was contended between Roman and Byzantine churches. An important personality was the bishop Bartolomeo Prignano, the future Urbano VI, known also as the first Italian Pope after the move of the Curia from Rome to Avignone.

Visit of stone caves for vine storage in Palmenti Village Castelmezzano in Dolomite Lucane

Next location that we have visited was the extraordinary complex of caves of Pietragalla. It is an interesting example of architecture of rural activities. At the edge of village is settlement Palmenti with two hundred caves that inhabitants weren’t use to live there, but were built to save the grapes and turn them into wine. Caves are almost seven hundred years old. This way to vinify is a really old method among different countries of the Mediterranean area. Thanks to the locals’ story telling they help to preserve this original heritage. Palmenti represent a relevant connection with the history of that territory, a rural history articulated in the same activities that followed the rhythm of the seasons where each one had its specific products; wine is one of them, maybe the most important together with oil and wheat.

The last stop of study visits were two small villages Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa sited on the complex of Dolomiti Lucane, in the middle of Gallipoli - Cognato Park. Park preserves the natural beauties of this unique territory. The oldest one, Castelmezzano, was founded by the Greek between the 6th and 5th centuries BC and called Maudoro, meaning roughly the world of gold. After the invasion of the Saracen and the Lombard, it was the time of the Normans that between the 11th and the 13th century, they come and erected a castle, a Castle in the Middle, Castrum Medianum and from this two words derived the name of Castelmezzano that was a castle settled between those of Pietrapertosa and .

During this period the area of Dolomiti Lucane experienced a period of peace and development that ended with the arrival of the Anjou Family in South Italy. With Charles of Anjou who killed the King of Sicily, Manfred of Hohenstaufen during Battle of Benevento on 26 February 1266, was the beginning of the French dynasty to rule over the Kingdom of Sicily.

Today the value of the complex of Dolomiti Lucane is increased thanks to an unique and extraordinary attraction “Volo dell’angelo” a system of steel cables that allow people to fly round from the highest peak of Castelmezzano to the one of Pietrapertosa and vice versa.

4. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS TO THE END OF THE PROJECT

At the beginning of the newsletter we mentioned that the project Sagittarius will conclude on 31th of May 2014. Project partners have to complete some activities. Produce the required final version of "Games Sagittarius", which will connect all 110 heritage sites from 8 countries in an attractive whole, and thus attract visitors to visit and experience them. Print and complete the necessary guide for the interpretation of the project. We also regularly update our website as one of the important communicators of the project. At the end of the project all partners put extensive work of reporting and editing of the acquisition project.

In order to derive the most efficient completion of the project, the project partners will meet once again in the middle of May (16th and 17th of May) on the island of Rhodes, where he also held our first meeting.

Our activities will be formally ended, but collaboration and connections certainly not. For further cooperation, development of ideas, interesting and innovative products of the project, we established a non-governmental organization Sagittarius. With NGO we can commit for co-funding resources in various future projects.

Our activities in the Sagittarius project will succeed only with your participation, information, suggestions, and ideas. Contact details of the project are on project web page: www.see-tcp- project-sagittarius.eu/index.php.sl , on web page of Leap Partner UNIVERSITY OF THE AEGEAN (www.aegean.gr) and on web pages of other project partners.
