[email protected] Leeds United players Molly Cawthorn and Hannah Fox were at Farnley Academy on Wednesday 29th January as they attended the Leeds United Foundations Premier League 4 Sport Girls session at the school. One of 12 satellite centres established in the programme, the centre at Farnley Academy on Chapel Lane in Leeds is jointly run by the school and representatives from Wortley Juniors FC. Cawthorn and Fox are both graduates of the Leeds Girls Centre of Excellence, having been with Leeds since the age of 10 and are both keen to support the programme which targets girls aged 13+ and aims to provide a minimum of 180 female players of all abilities with both the opportunity to learn and develop their skills and with a recognised pathway into open age football. Hannah commented: "It's a genuine pleasure for Molly and I to be here today to show our support for the Leeds United Foundations Premier League 4 Sport programme. Having been involved in girls football since an early age I've seen how difficult it can be to attract and keep players, particularly once they reach their early teens so it's great to see programme's like this one encouraging more girls to play the game." After joining the girls on the pitch to go through their paces, the Leeds pair then finished the session with a short question and answer segment in which they fielded questions about everything from what it feels like to play for Leeds to injuries. John Forrest, Assistant Leader of P.E. at Farnley Academy heads up the sessions for the school. He said: "I've historically been frustrated by the lack of opportunities for our girls to get involved with football so it's great to see the Leeds United Foundation offering a programme like this that will allow those who want to play a chance to do so. Numbers for the sessions have been steadily growing and hopefully will continue to do so." Year 7 students Olivia and Shannon were two of the girls taking part in the session and were quick to express how much they enjoy being involved. Olivia said, "I love everything to do with football but haven't had much chance to play before so it's a lot of fun to get the chance. It's also great to meet Molly and Hannah from Leeds today, they're both amazing players." Shannon added: "I love being a part of the sessions every week and am thinking about going down to Wortley to join the team there." Asked where she'd like to play if she did join the team at Wortley, Shannon replied: "Striker, definitely as a striker. There's nothing better than when you score!" Shannon's situation is exactly what the jointly run sessions at the Farnley Academy are all about with the hope being that those involved at the school will come along to the sessions, enjoy themselves and eventually decide they'd like to try playing for Wortley in one of their junior teams. Robert Greaves, Ladies and Girls Secretary from Wortley Juniors commented: "Like most junior clubs, girl's football at Wortley is underrepresented. We are actively trying to redress the balance and we feel sure that our connection with Leeds United will have a significant impact on our efforts in this respect. Our ambition for next season is to start two new teams and with the support of the Farnley Academy and Leeds United I am sure we will reach this target." The satellite centre at Farnley Academy is just one of 12 satellite centres in and around the Leeds area established under the Leeds United Foundation's Premier League 4 Sport Girls programme with the other centres based at Amaranth AFC, Boston Spa School, Chapeltown Youth Development Centre, Hunslet Club, Middleton Park FC, Rodillian Academy, Woodkirk Academy, Wetherby Athletic, Scotten Scorchers, Howden Clough and Ovenden WR Juniors. After three postponements due to the weather, the tie finally got under way at Ivybridge Community College on a 3G pitch. Argyle drew first blood in only the third minute when Becca Rose blasted home from the penalty spot after Emily Mousley was brought down in the box by Exeter's keeper Vicky Wright. Five minutes later and the visitors were rocked by a second Argyle goal, this time Emily Mousley finishing with a firm shot. On 16 minutes it was 3-0 and again it was Mousley finishing a neat move down the right taking a pass from Ellie Dorey in her stride and clipping the ball over the keeper from the edge of the box. Argyle started the 2nd half somewhat sluggishly and allowed Exeter to come more into the game, that eventually led to the visitors grabbing a goal back in the 52nd minute. Exeter's left back Marika Ghiglia made her way into the area before producing a shot that found the far corner of the net past the diving Michaela Phillips. When Argyle got it together once more they were aided by a mix up in the Exeter defence and Mousley completed her hat-trick, smashing the ball into the net from two yards. The fifth goal came courtesy of a Katie Middleton free kick from 25 yards, guiding the ball into the far top corner. Two minutes from time Ellie Dorey got the last touch from close in to round off the scoring. Sheffield FC meanwhile produced a powerful display to beat Liverpool Feds 10-0. The Premier League side inflicted the majority of the damage on their Northern Combination opponents in the first half, Carla Ward's eighth minute penalty giving them the lead with Jodie Michalska adding the second. Becky Lee, Issy Hayes and Ward put them further ahead before Ellie Gilliatt and Lisa Giampalma also found the net and Ward completed her hat-trick with the eighth goal, on the stroke of half time. Giampalma netted her second nine minutes into the second half but Feds battled hard after the break and only conceded one more time, Michalska scoring the final goal in injury time. Sheffield are now away to Charlton Athletic in the Third Round. Chichester City completed a trio of big wins on the day by beating Enfield Town 6-0 to secure a trip to Durham WFC. Kally Ambler and Hollie Wride each scored twice with Lauren Cheshire and Abbey Shrubb adding the others (see match report).

Plymouth Argyle manager Kev Rose is relishing the chance to take on Brighton & Hove Albion in the F.A.Women's Cup this week. Argyle earned their chance against the Premier League outfit with a 6-1 victory over Exeter City and Kev told Women's Soccer Scene: "Our squad is now made up of young enthusiastic players who have progressed through the Devon FA Centre of Excellence, with many of them still at Plymouth Argyle Ladies/Ivybridge Community College academy. "This will be a great test for us as a club and the players as individuals to see how much we have developed over the past two seasons. Our ethos at the club is now one of progression as a club and development as individuals. Training has gone well this week after Sunday's win over Exeter City. "We had a classroom session on Monday and watched Brighton play, and we have had feedback on their squad, one of whom used to play for us. "We are expecting a very tough test from a Premier League team. Having said that, we feel ready to take on that challenge at this stage of the season. All our players know they will need to be at their best on Sunday, if they are then anything can happen, this is the FA Cup isn't it !" Argyle captain Katie Middleton added: "I know that all of the girls are looking forward to the next round of the FA Cup as it would be great to progress as far as possible but more importantly, it will be a good opportunity to test ourselves against a team in the league above us. "We didn't do ourselves justice when we played in that league a few seasons ago and it will be good to show everyone how we have developed as a team with new players coming through and improving all the time. It would also be great to get through to the Fourth round as that's when the WSL teams enter the competition." [email protected] Cardiff City Ladies are the first team to book their place in the semi finals of the Premier League Cup after they defeated Lewes 1-0 on Sunday. In the only quarter final tie to be played, a tight match was settled in the 73rd minute when Michelle Green scored the only goal of the game. Jamie Sherwood's team are just one game away from reaching the Final for the first time in their history and the winners of the delayed tie between Coventry City and Gillingham now stand in their way. Semi final draw: Cardiff City Ladies v Coventry City or Gillingham Preston North End or Nottingham Forest v Bradford City or Sheffield FC However it was the same old story as far as the league matches were concerned as all games in the Northern and Southern Divisions were postponed because of the weather. This means that there has been no action in the Northern Division since Sunday 5th January, and only two matches in total played in the division after the Christmas and New Year break. Liverpool have signed Under-23 international midfielder Lucy Staniforth from Bristol Academy. 21-year-old Lucy, an attacking midfielder with a keen eye for goal, began her career at Sunderland where she started in the FA Women's Cup Final at the age of 16 when they were narrowly beaten by Arsenal, before moving to Lincoln Ladies. She joined Bristol Academy at the start of last season and started in outstanding form for her new club but her season was curtailed when she suffered a knee ligament injury when catching her studs in the turf during the FA Women's Cup Final, again against Arsenal. Having lifted the Women's Super League trophy for the first time in the club's history in 2013, the move bolsters Matt Beard's Liverpool squad in the build up to the upcoming season. Speaking of her move to Liverpool, Lucy said: "I am absolutely delighted to join Liverpool Ladies and can't wait to get started. "I hope that I am able to improve a squad that is already full of top class internationals as we strive to retain our WSL trophy and impress in our debut Champions League season. "I would also like to thank everyone at Bristol Academy for their support during my time at the club as I thoroughly enjoyed my time there." Liverpool manager Matt Beard added: "This is yet another exciting signing for Liverpool Ladies as we prepare for the new season. She adds great quality and will add further depth to our squad." Lucy is the fourth player to have joined Liverpool since the end of the season, to add to the earlier captures of Martha Harris, and goalkeeper Libby Stout. [email protected] Bristol Academy Women's Football Club have announced a new sponsorship deal which sees Bristol-based legal expenses insurer, DAS UK become the club's main sponsor for the 2014-2015 season. DAS has a history of community involvement and sports sponsorship within Bristol and this deal represents a further commitment by the company to its home city. The announcement follows the appointment of Dave Edmondson as the club's new head coach. Edmondson was appointed following the departure of , who took up the role as England Women's National Team Manager in December. The £50k one year deal, which is the largest financial shirt sponsorship for an independent club in the women's game, will see the BAWFC players sporting the insurer's logo on their shirts as they embark on their fourth campaign in the WSL and once again enter into the UEFA Women's Champions League. Last year the club had the most successful season in its history, finishing runners up in the FA Cup Final against Arsenal and capping a superb league campaign by finishing second in the 2013 Women's Super League (WSL). Paul Asplin, CEO DAS UK Group said; "DAS has its headquarters in Bristol and whilst we employ over 700 staff nationally, the majority of our people are based in Bristol, so being involved in our local community is extremely important to us. It is our pleasure to sponsor the Vixens and connect our brand to theirs and the rising popularity of women's football." President of Bristol Academy WFC, Kevin Hamblin, said: "We needed a sponsor befitting both the local and national appeal of the club. DAS is a perfect fit and their sponsorship will enable us to develop the club and build on the success we have had. We are delighted to have them on board." Meanwhile Bristol Sport is proud to become the new suppliers of kit for Bristol Academy after striking a partnership with Women's Super League runners-up. The new kit has been developed in consultation with the playing squad, and includes new club sponsor DAS on the front. Academy stars Tash Harding and Corinne Yorston helped during the kit design process. Harding said: "Style and femininity is really important in the women's game and feeling good is important to us. "It gives us that swagger and confidence before stepping out on to the pitch. The players had a strong input and we are thankful to Bristol Sport for taking our ideas on board." Bristol Sport chairman Martin Griffiths says: "Bristol Academy were outstanding in 2013 with great success on the pitch. We are delighted to be able to support the development of the team and look forward to more progress in 2014." The Bristol Sport partnership follows on from Bristol City FC's sponsorship of Bristol Academy during the 2013 season. The team played with the Bristol City Community Trust's logo emblazoned on their shirts and BCCT will be working with Bristol Academy to supercharge the growth of female participation in Bristol. BCCT is a registered charity in Bristol, which aims to make a positive difference for all through sport and learning. They aim to do this by providing fun, safe and enjoyable activities for people of all ages and abilities, ensuring there is a place for girls to participate. Amy Kington, director of BCCT, has recently joined the board on Bristol Academy Women's FC. Kington said: "Bristol Academy has seen great success on the field and 2014 could indeed be the year Bristol could win the FA Women's Super League. With Europe to look forward to as well, it's certainly going to be an exciting time for everyone at the club." [email protected] Enfield Town 0 Chichester City 6 Chichester City claimed a place in the Third Round of the FA Women's Cup with a comprehensive six-goal victory away at Enfield Town. The prize on offer was a long trip next Sunday to newly formed WSL2 club Durham WFC in the latter's first ever competitive match. After an even first half hour, Chi were two goals to the good at the break and ran riot in the latter stages, only a string of Kelly Cooper saves preventing a far greater margin of defeat as Enfield chased the game and were clinically picked off on the counter attack. A great amount of work on the Queen Elizabeth Stadium pitch made the game playable at the fourth attempt and both sides started cautiously after a long break from competitive action. Cooper held a long range Jade Widdowson effort and Hannah McNamara fielded a Cally Louise Bennett is held off by Lauren Cheshire Brown shot. Enfield skipper Claire Gooch threatened with a (www.jamesprickett.co.uk). header from a free kick on the right which was blocked as an even first 20 minutes gave little indication of the final outcome. Lauren Cheshire on the Chichester right was starting to see a lot of the ball and provided a good deal of the visitors' threat along with Jenna Fowlie on the opposite wing. With Hollie Wride and Kally Ambler always looking to get in to meet crosses or run on to through passes, the chances started to pile up. It was Ambler who opened the scoring, turning home a Cheshire low cross at the near post on 32 minutes. Chichester doubled their advantage ten minutes later when Cheshire hit a beauty from 20 yards wide right which flew beyond Cooper's dive. If Enfield were to mount a comeback on the restart, they needed to score the next goal and they looked more lively but on 51 minutes Cooper failed to gather a bouncing through ball and Ambler was able to tap in the third. The Enfield keeper recovered well from this error to produce a series of quality saves in the final half hour. Enfield did create some danger in front of McNamara's goal, Nula McKevitt going close from a corner and Lizzie Kent dragging a shot wide from the edge of the area. However, at the other end Chichester created numerous openings. Cooper denied Cheshire from two yards out with a brave block on her line then Wride with a brilliantly timed one-on-one interception on 63 minutes. Substitute Abbey Shrubb added a fourth direct from a wickedly inswinging corner but missed from five yards when set up by Cheshire. Chichester, by now bursting with pace and confidence, simply passed the ball to set up openings at regular intervals against an overworked home defence. Wride scored a fantastic fifth after a flowing five player move allowed her to sidefoot home from the edge of the area on 79 minutes. Wride had another shot just over, then Kirsty Willett drove a loose ball inches over after a fine Cooper save. Shrubb blasted a shot at the Enfield keeper from ten yards before Wride rounded off the scoring, weaving into the area and burying a powerful lofted finish beyond Cooper's right hand on 86 minutes. Chichester City, going well in the South West Combination, have a round trip of about 650 miles to face their opponents next Sunday, weather permitting. They will surely approach the test of WSL opposition with more confidence after this dominating display. [email protected] Chelsea are delighted to announce the signing of Swedish defender Emma Wilhelmsson. The 27-year-old has joined following an impressive trial during the International Women's Club Championship (IWCC) in December, in which Wilhelmsson played the full 90 minutes in both games as Chelsea finished as runners-up. Wilhelmsson joins from Swedish side Jitex BK, having previously played for Malmo, winning three league titles and playing in the UEFA Women's Champions League during her time with the club. A former Sweden Under-23 international, Wilhelmsson can play anywhere across the back four, while she is also an accomplished defensive midfielder. Wilhelmsson partnered England's Laura Bassett in defence during the IWCC in Japan and is manager Emma Hayes' sixth signing of the off season following the arrivals of Bassett, Rachel Williams, , and South Korean Ji So-Yun. "It feels great [to be a Chelsea player] and I’m really excited about it," said Emma. "This is a wonderful club, a big club, so I’m just looking forward to the start of the season. "I’m a very strong defender and my heading ability is one of my biggest strengths. I love to win, I make sure I give everything whether I’m playing in a big match or just a normal training session." Looking back on her trial spell during the tournament in Japan, Emma added: "It was a good trip, we played two games and we had some good, intense training sessions. It was good for me to be there as I got to know the girls and I really enjoyed it." Did that trip help you build relationships both on and off the pitch? "I think so, yes, and it made it easier for me to join the team now instead of me just coming in and not knowing anybody." Emma is also confident of making the transition from Swedish to English football. "It will be difficult but I’m looking forward to it. For me, it will definitely be different, but I want to learn. I enjoyed the two games in Japan and I thought we played quite well. "I always want to develop the way I play. I’ve been playing in Sweden for many years and I wanted a new challenge. I hope I can improve as a player and I want to play well and help the club achieve things." Meanwhile Ji So-Yun, who joined the club last week, has spoken about her move from INAC Kobe Lionessea. "It’s a huge honour for me to be at this club," she said. "It feels really special for me to come to England. It’s a very big opportunity for me and I’m looking forward to getting started." Ji has been described as the Korean Messi but remained modest about the comparison. "I’m not sure if I should be compared to Messi but I will try my best to live up to that name," she smiled. The South Korean international played against Chelsea during the Club World Cup and revealed that she had an extra interest in her opponents that day. "I was offered a deal already by Chelsea before the match so it was a great opportunity to observe them closely," she said. "The impression I got was that they were a great side and I thought it would be a great move for me. "My main aim is to win the league with Chelsea. We already have a great team but I want to help raise us to an even higher standard." Ciara Grant and Yvonne Tracy have left Arsenal, having come to the end of their contracts after a combined 30 years of service to the club. Ciara has helped the Gunners to 11 league titles, nine FA Cups, nine League Cups, and one UEFA Women's Cup, since her arrival in 1998. She became the first player to reach 100 caps for Republic of Ireland, and made a total of 105 appearances for her country over a 17-year international career. Yvonne, who helped the Gunners to a treble in her debut season in 2000-01, enjoyed a similarly illustrious career with the Club. Among other triumphs, she played a key part in the Gunners' 2006-07 quadruple-winning campaign. Aged 32, Yvonne remains a mainstay of the Republic of Ireland side. Ciara will now join Reading, where she will play under former Gunners team mate . Yvonne is also set to continue her playing career. Arsenal general manager Vic Akers paid tribute to the pair: "I would like to thank both Ciara and Yvonne for their fantastic contribution to the Club," he said. "They've been central to the success the Ladies have had over the last 15 years. As well as being excellent players, they've been great to work with. On behalf of everyone at the Club, I'd like to wish them well for the future." The Championship outfit will stage the Three Lions' fifth FIFA World Cup 2015 qualifier, against Montenegro. The match will be screened live on BBC One at 1pm. Sampson said: "The Montenegro match is one we are all so excited about - we have been since our first get-together. "These are fresh times for our England women's team and I hope our supporters are sharing our sense of optimism about the journey we have ahead of us. "It starts in earnest in April against Montenegro and if we want our journey to be a fulfilling one we need to be together from the very start. "We are a new group with new ideas, we have a real freshness to our approach. Now we just can't wait to play in a competitive environment and live our vision on the pitch. "The Amex is a wonderful stadium and I know it will be a fitting venue for our new England's first match. "The fact the game will be live on the BBC will no doubt help further boost the women's game in this country and I think it's absolutely awesome they are fully behind us." Brighton chief executive Paul Barber added: "As a club with our own thriving women's team and academy, we are keen to support and promote the women's game in every way we can."

England Under-19s shared a thrilling game with Norway at St George's Park on Friday morning, drawing 4-4 in the second of two games this week. Mo Marley's side drew 1-1 on Wednesday after a two-day training camp at the national football centre, but this game was certainly a little more free-flowing in the goalscoring stakes. England had to show real character too, as they had to battle back from being two goals behind on three occasions. They first found themselves two goals down at half time thanks to a third-minute strike from Camilla Ose and a follow up in the 22nd minute from Amalie Vevle Eikeland. Half time substitute Jess Carter then pulled a goal back for England in the 54th minute, only for Norway to restore their two-goal advantage in the 69th minute through Synne Sofie Kinden Jensen. An own goal from Norway's Karin Muya helped to reduce the arrears in the 71st minute to make it 3-2 but five minutes later Jensen notched her second of the afternoon to make it 4-2 with what the visitors must have thought was a killer goal. If that was the case, they were mistaken as another replacement, Coral Haines, got an instant goal back in the 77th minute before the pressure was really applied in England's search for an equaliser. It arrived in the third minute of added time, as Katie Zelem levelled things up to make it 4-4 at full time and complete a remarkable match. England Under-19: Kirsty Levell (sub Alex Brooks 61mins), , Hannah George (sub Lauren Haynes 45mins), Fran Steele, Ellie Stewart, Gabrielle George, Sophie Stamp (sub Jess Carter 45mins), Katie Zelem, Karin Muya, Jenna Legg (sub Shauna Cossens 45mins), (sub Coral Haines 73mins). Subs not used: Molly Bartrip, Claudia Walker, Jemma Purfield, Sophie Haywood, Ashlee Brown, Caitlin Leach. [email protected] Midland Combination Solihull Ladies and Mansfield Town met each other for the second time in four weeks and once again, neither side will have been completely happy with the outcome. After sharing four goals in their previous encounter, this time they finished level at 1-1 with Solihull likely to be the more satisfied as they stay one point ahead of Mansfield. Naomi Hunter was on target for Solihull, with Mansfield replying through a strike from Rebecca Braithwaite. South East Combination Queen's Park Rangers have returned to the top of the table on goal difference, thanks to a 2-0 victory against third placed Milton Keynes Dons. Leah Jones marked her debut for the Hoops by giving them the lead on the quarter hour and Stacey Sowden wrapped up the win with the second goal late on, to take her side back above C & K Basildon. South West Combination Swindon Town made a swift return to winning ways on Sunday and their 1-0 success away to Shanklin sees them go eleven points clear at the top. Georgia Walters scored the only goal of the game in the nineteenth minute to get the Wiltshire side's title challenge back on course. At the other end of the table, University of Portsmouth gave their hopes of climbing off the bottom a shot in the arm with a 2-1 victory over Newquay, which moves them to within one point of the Cornish side. QPR 2 MK Dons 0. Shanklin 0 Swindon 1; Univ of Portsmouth 2 Newquay 1. [email protected] Cardiff City Ladies' excellent season continued with a 1-0 victory over Lewes which takes them into the semi finals of the Premier League Cup. The Southern Division leaders are in the running for at least two trophies and City defender and captain Kayleigh Green reflected on the win and looked forward to an exciting few weeks ahead for her side: How good does it feel to be through to the semi finals of the Premier League Cup? Going through to the semi finals of the Premier League Cup is brilliant for us as a team. It shows how much we have progressed this season compared to last season. We set team goals for this season and one goal was to reach the final of the League Cup, and we are 90 minutes away from reaching that goal. We need to focus on what we want to achieve, and the hard work will continue. Was the win against Lewes as tight as the 1-0 scoreline suggests? The game against Lewes was a hard game. Lewes where a strong and organised team who came out fighting. We did not play as well as we know we can, chances were missed including hitting the crossbar but we came away with the deserved win to take us through to the semi finals. We will build on the team performance and focus on the next game. How pleased are you to have received a home draw in the semi finals, whether it be Coventry or Gillingham? It's always great to be drawn at your home ground for the semi finals, we have great supporters who come to every match so for us to play in front of them is great for us as team. It will be a tough game as both teams are very strong so to play the game at home is a bonus for us. Whoever you play, it will be two of the top three in the Southern Division, so would you anticipate a tight semi final? Yes definitely, it will be a tight semi final. Both Coventry and Gillingham are strong teams so whoever we play it's going to be a very hard game. We want to get to the final, so as a team we will be working extra hard and we will remain focused in order to achieve our goal we set at the beginning of the season and reach the final. How satisfying was it to keep another clean sheet, to keep up your excellent defensive record this season? Well as a defender myself, it's always important to keep a clean sheet. We have been able to rotate players in the back four throughout the season and still produce strong performances and clean sheets which shows the depth of our squad. Sophie Dando, our keeper, has put in some really good performances and made crucial saves, having a keeper like that behind you as a defender only gives you confidence when playing. This week you play Tottenham in a league match, presumably another crucial game and a chance to go three points clear if you win? Yes another big game for us to focus on, every game is crucial and we do not take any opposition for granted as we want to stay in a strong position in the league. Due to Gillingham not playing in the league this weekend, yes, a win will take us three points above and seeing that in the table can only provide our team with confidence. You are still in three competitions and top of the league, does every game now feel even more important than the last one? Yes of course, every game and good performance we have, we learn from it and work even harder in training as we constantly want to perform better as a team. Jamie Sherwood, our manager is continually pushing each of us in order to achieve our full potential, he has faith in everyone's ability and has a lot of confidence in us as a team to achieve our goals we set and he keeps us focused on each game. Every game is important and is played like a final. April is set to be a crucial month with some important games, do you think that period could turn out to be a decisive one? April will be difficult for us as we will be playing both Coventry and Gillingham and so it will be very decisive at the top of the table. However anything can happen in the meantime and so our main focus is not the games in April but the ones before, starting with Tottenham on Sunday. We need to remain focused and keep training hard in order to put ourselves in a good position when we do enter into April. The London & South East League side are the only club playing at Regional League level to have reached this stage - Blackpool Wren Rovers still have a Second Round tie to play - and manager Dean Davenport told Women's Soccer Scene that his team have the capability to upset their Premier League opponents. "The girls were flying in training," he said. "I have a full squad to choose from and they are fit and ready for the challenge. "Although this is the furthest they have been in the FA Cup, they deserve their place and I am confident of a good showing on Sunday, and hopeful of being in Monday's Fourth Round draw." Palace captain Kirsty Mitchell added: "All of the girls are looking forward to the game and excited at the thought of testing themselves against a Premier League side. "We have the utmost respect for Derby but we are ready for Sunday's game and although we are a very young side, we are improving all the time and Derby will underestimate us at their peril."

Everton manager Andy Spence has boosted his squad with the capture of two promising youngsters. Goalkeeper Megan Walsh, who will be known to Blues fans following her short spell on loan last season, has now joined on a permanent deal from Aston Villa. The England Under-23 international made an impressive debut against Birmingham City last season and will now join up with the squad and look to provide competition for -Finnis for the No 1 shirt. Joining Walsh in signing for the Blues is 17-year-old Gabby George, who makes the switch from Manchester United's Centre of Excellence. George has just made the transition into the England Under-19 squad and Everton have beaten off a number of top clubs to land the promising youngster. Manager Andy Spence was delighted to be able to secure both Bright and George and believes both will prove astute acquisitions. "Both Megan and Gabby fit the profile of the type of person and player we want at Everton," he said. "Megan has obviously tasted WSL football last season when she joined us on loan and her debut away to Birmingham was simply outstanding. To now have her on board really does provide us with two goalkeepers who are of top quality and who will push each other on. "Gabby is the youngest member of the squad and because of that she will be developed accordingly to allow her to understand the demands of senior football. She is someone who has significant potential and we will be mindful of ensuring we give her the right exposure to the first team environment, but also the development squad environment as well, as both will be crucial to her development." Spence has also handed a first senior contract to England Under-19 international Millie Turner. The former Manchester United Centre of Excellence player joined the club last June, featuring extensively with the Development Squad, but will now link up the first team ahead of the new season. "Millie is a player who has fantastic technical skills," added the Blues boss. "We have been developing her physical and tactical side of her game through training with the first team and getting lots of match practice within our Development Squad. She will continue to be allowed time to grow and develop over the coming years but we know we have a player who is making good progress and will continue to develop her undoubted potential." The trio will hope to play some part in Everton's upcoming friendly against Glasgow City on 16th February. [email protected] BLACKBURN ROVERS v MIDDLESBROUGH Blackburn Rovers went through to the Third Round with a 1-0 victory away to Whitley Bay of the North East League. Nichol Forster scored the only goal of the game during the first half to earn Gemma Donnelly's side a home tie with Middlesbrough, who reached this stage by beating Tranmere Rovers 4-0 with goals from Emily Scott, Sarah Manning, Jenny Duffy and Kenzie Parkes. Middlesbrough Ladies FC have been around since the late seventies but it wasn’t until recent times that Middlesbrough FC gave the side their full support to the ladies side. In 2001-02, Middlesbrough carried off the Northern Combination title for the first time and were promoted to the Northern Division of the Premier League, where they remained for four seasons. Since being back at Combination level, their best season came in 2010-11 when they finished third, but this time around they are placed amongst the front runners in a very close and open title race. Manager Sammie Leigh is currently a football coach and sport science lecturer at Middlesbrough College. She has over ten years experience in the women's game including playing at Leeds. Sammie has her UEFA B coaching badge and is in her first season in charge of MFC Ladies as previous manager Gemma Grainger left due to national England commit- ments. Captain is Jenni Duffy who is a sports coach and plays left back/centre midfield and Sarah Manning is the longest serving member of the current team who has been at the club since joining as a youngster back in 1997. Sarah is a determined, strong and tall player with a fantastic ability to control midfield. Sarah first joined Middlesbrough Ladies FC at age 13 but wasn’t allowed to play until reaching 14 years old due to the FA rules that were in place. Marrie Wieczorek - Boro Ladies' long serving manager - saw her play at Boldon Girls FC and invited her to go training. Sarah made her debut for the first team just before her 16th birthday and once completing her undergraduate degree at Liverpool John Moores University, Sarah returned home and re- joined in 2008. A year later she was made captain! The newest player is Amy Simpson who joined in December from local side South Park Rangers and provides Sammie with additional options on the bench. The good news for 'Boro is that leading goalscorer Nicky Duckling, with 15 in all competitions, is available for selection after recent injury. Dani Scarr (12 goals), Emily Scott (10) and Sarah Manning (10) should also start. MFC Ladies have definitely benefitted from new sponsors this season including current Middlesbrough goalkeeper Jason Steele, comedian Patrick Monahan and former British tennis number one doubles player Sarah Borwell who is from the town. Sarah's “Tennis Smart” was developed to maintain education while pursuing pro development. Wells Solutions are home shirt sponsors and their support to the team overall has been welcomed. [email protected] Cardiff Met Ladies made it 12 wins out of 12 and preserved their five point lead at the top of the Shared Access Welsh Premier Women's League when scoring ten without reply against Aberystwyth Town. The students got off to a flying start by netting four times inside the opening fifteen minutes, Emily Allen giving them the lead seconds after kick off before Steph Turner added a brace and Emily Brown also scored. Allen, Laura Walkley and Abi Fever netted further goals ahead of half time with Allen completing her hat-trick early in the second half. Fever and Walkley went on to score their own second goals to round off the scoring. Cardiff City FC are not giving up the chase in second place and continue to cling to the university side's coat tails after beating Newcastle Emlyn 2-0. After a goalless first half, the game was decided in a seven minute spell just before the hour mark when Siobhan Walsh and Shanelle Edwards scored the all important goals for City. Swansea City are up into fourth, their highest position of the season to date, following their 3-0 victory away to local rivals Port Talbot Town. Jodie Passmore opened the scoring for the Swans in the 33rd minute and in the second half, Chloe Lloyd made it two and Ria Hughes wrapped up the win with the third goal, twenty minutes from time. Llandudno Junction meanwhile did their survival hopes a power of good when running out 3-0 winners over Caernarfon Town, who remain in the bottom two. Aimee Todd's strike separated the sides at the interval, before Kelsey Davies doubled Llandudno's advantage in the opening minute of the second half and Todd completed her brace shortly afterwards to seal the points. The other two matches at Llanidloes and PILCS were postponed due to waterlogged pitches. A full schedule is hoped for this Sunday, when it will be Cardiff Met’s turn to take on Newcastle Emlyn as the league leaders travel to West Wales. have announced the signings of Welsh youth international duo Danielle Oates and Sydney Hinchcliffe. Danielle Oates joins from Blackburn Rovers having missed just one match during the 2012-13 season. The 19-year-old, who can play across the back, is technically proficient with both feet and has an excellent ability to read the game. The defender started her career at the Crewe Alexandra Centre of Excellence and has made over 35 appearances at youth international level. She said: "I feel privileged to have this opportunity. With the quality of coaching staff and amazing facilities the team has real potential to succeed." 18-year-old Sydney Hinchcliffe joins from Stoke City after a six month spell with the Potters. Prior to joining Stoke, the striker plied her trade for Wrexham and she was the Dragons' top scorer last season, netting 41 goals in all competitions. Hinchcliffe has also featured for Tranmere Rovers and represented Wales at Under-17 and Under-19 level. She said: "I am delighted to have signed for such a new and exciting club. I cannot wait to get started and I am very much looking forward to the journey ahead." Gemma on way to Liverpool Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Gemma Jackson has joined reigning Women's Super League champions Liverpool. The move reunites the Wales Under-19 international with former Rovers boss Scott Rogers. Rovers' interim manager Gemma Donnelly, who has lost Steph Marsh and Danielle Young to Manchester City in recent months, was sorry to see another of the club's young stars 'cherry-picked' by a Super League side. She said: "We would like to wish Gemma all the best and the door will be left open for any future return. "We have provided her with the platform to show what she can do and it is on the back of some impressive performances at club level that she has managed to reclaim her place in the Wales youth set up and that this move has materialised. "However, it is becoming increasingly difficult to create any continuity within the squad when Women's Super League sides, who have greater pulling power, are allowed to poach our best players. "Something should be done to recompense clubs who have nurtured and developed their talent from a young age." Sheffield & Hallamshire Cup Huddersfield Town advanced to the quarter finals, beating Sheffield Wednesday Res 16-2. The result was to be expected, but Wednesday kept the score respectable until the last ten minutes of the first half when Town banged in four goals to lead 8-2 at the interval. For Wednesday, Kristina Rankine levelled for 1-1 and Lucy Ridley made it 4-2. Captain Kate Mallin was Town’s top scorer with six goals, Debbie Hastings bagged a hat-trick, Abbie Mullen netting twice while there were singles for Alarna Fuller, Alice Linsell, Emily Heckler, Jodie Berry and Shauna Messenger. The all-County League tie between Division One leaders Chesterfield and Second Division Staveley MW ended in a 3-1 win for the latter. Carly Rowlands (2) and Lindsay Vaughan scored the goals for Staveley who like Chesterfield, come under the constituency of Toby Perkins MP, with whom both squads were presented to the crowd at the UEFA Women’s Under-17 Final in December.

[email protected] Brislington leave it late Brislington completed the semi final line up in the Somerset Senior Women's Cup when two late goals gave them a 2-0 victory away to Frome Town. The game appeared to be heading for extra time but with three minutes remaining, captain Sophie Whelan put Brislington ahead with a dipping shot from just outside the area. Barely a minute later, Vicky Powell headed in the second from an Emily Plummer cross to seal her side a semi final tie against Bishop's Lydeard.
