[email protected] Notts County Ladies FC are excited to announce the triple signing of Dunia Susi, Katie Holtham and Rachel Unitt as well as striker Caitlin Friend. Full back Dunia Susi had previously represented England at Under 19 and Under 23 level, before making her full debut in 2009 against Iceland. After impressing with England, Dunia was called into the Great Britain squad for the 2012 Olympics as the team reached the quarter finals. After starting her career at Arsenal, Susi moved to fellow London club Chelsea, where she spent four years before moving to Birmingham Ladies for the inaugural FA Women’s Super League season. The defender spent one year at the Blues before joining back up with Chelsea Ladies for the 2012 and 2013 FA WSL season before now securing her move to Notts County Ladies. Manager Rick Passmoor said on the move, “Dunia’s versatility as a footballer is a very valuable asset for this football club and being able to bring her to train full time means she is only going to improve as a footballer.”It’s an exciting time for this football club, adding another international player, further shows our intent for this season coming and the seasons after that.” Katie Holtham, who originates from Nottingham, has signed for Rick Passmoor’s team, linking up with the manager for a second time. Holtham had previously played for Passmoor at Leeds Carnegie, scoring in the Premier League Cup Final, as Carnegie went on to life the trophy. She spent a brief spell in the American League with Buffalo Rush, helping them to lift the title, before moving back to England to join up with Doncaster Rovers Belles for the first FA Women’s Super League season. Holtham stayed with the Belles for the first two seasons, playing for Perth Glory in Australia in between the FA WSL off season, before making a move south to join Chelsea for the 2013 season. Katie’s talent has also been recognised on an international level, playing at U17, U19 and U23 levels, before receiving multiple call ups to the senior squad. Katie explains what attracted her to Notts County “Firstly after speaking to Rick and finding out about the future plans of the club and calibre of players he was signing I wanted to be a part of that. “Secondly the location, being Nottingham born and bred, having a team that will compete in the WSL 1 on my doorstep is a real bonus for me as last time I played in Nottingham was for West Bridgford Colts and Notts County COE when I was 15 so it's nice to be back and have that local support again.” Rachel Unitt has also joined the Lady Pies. The England defender made 102 appearances for her national side scoring eight times. Unitt is a well known name in the women’s game, having played at the top level of women’s football in England for a number of years. Rachel joined Everton from Wolves at the age of 17, spending for years with the Toffees before moving to Fulham Ladies. Unitt had a successful three years at Fulham, including winning the domestic treble in the 2002-03 season. A year later she moved back to Everton where she spent a further seven years playing in the inaugural FA WSL season for the Merseyside team. After the first season in the newly formed Super League, Rachel moved to Birmingham, where she has spent the past two years before putting pen to paper for the Nottinghamshire side. Manager Rick Passmoor underlined the importance of the experience Rachel brings: “Rachel has played at the top level of women’s football for many years and has constantly shown what she can achieve on the pitch. It’s great to have Rachel here at Notts County Ladies FC.” On the moves, Chief Executive Luke Negus-Hill said: “It’s another fantastic three signings for the football club. All three have great experience in this league and all have been involved internationally with England at some level, which shows the skill and talent of the players we are bringing to this club. It further show our ambition and desire to achieve.” Caitlin Friend, who currently plays for Melbourne Victory in the Australian W-League, will join up with her Notts team mates after the conclusion of the Australian season, where Melbourne have already secured a semi final spot. Twenty year old Friend has had a successful season so far for The Victory, finding the net seven times in Melbourne's ten games, elevating them to second in the league. The striker has found herself second in the top scorers list with two games remaining, and Melbourne already having secured a semi final slot. Caitlin is excited at the prospect of playing at Notts County: "I've heard quite a lot about Notts County and the set up they've got. It sounds like one of the most organised and professional structures out there." "A few of my team mates here in Melbourne have played in England and they've spoken about the high standard of football. I just want to play football at a high standard all year round and I've only heard great things about the Super League." Parc y Scarlets, the home of Scarlets RFC and Llanelli RFC, will host Wales' FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying group match with the Ukraine on Wednesday 9th April 2014. This will be the fifth game for Wales in the FIFA qualifying Group Six and will come five days after the away qualifier in Turkey. So far, Wales have two wins from their opening three games - Belarus at home and away in Montenegro, plus a narrow away defeat to England, leaving Wales in second place in the group at present. The group winners qualify for the finals, with the second placed team going in to a play-off. The finals are in Canada. Parc y Scarlets was last used by the senior women's team for a European Championship match with Scotland in September 2012, when they were narrowly beaten 2-1. This will be the third time that the Wales women’s team will have played a senior international at the venue, having previously taken on France in another Euro 2013 qualifier in October 2011. The stadium also hosted the Final (and other matches) of the UEFA Women's Under-19 Championships in the summer of 2013 and a few months earlier, the FAW Women’s Cup Final between Cardiff City Ladies and Cardiff Met Ladies was staged there. Kick off will be at 7.05pm and admission will be £5 for Adults and £3 for Juniors (Under 16). Details of how to purchase tickets will be announced shortly. [email protected] The weather had the final say once again on Sunday and all six scheduled matches in the Premier League had to be postponed because of waterlogged pitches. Better luck is hoped for this Sunday but the fixtures are already seriously affected due to outstanding F.A.Women’s Cup ties still having to be played. In the Northern Division, Stoke City have a chance to move within a single point of leaders Sheffield FC if they can win at home to Leeds Utd. Nottingham Forest meanwhile will also be seeking to step up their challenge when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers, who need three points to help their bid to get away from the bottom of the table. Two matches are also scheduled in the Southern Division. Brighton & Hove Albion and Charlton Athletic will both be aiming to keep their title hopes alive when they face each other whilst Tottenham Hotspur play Keynsham Town in an equally important clash at the other end of the table. Sunday also sees the first of the Premier League Cup quarter finals being played with Southern Division table toppers Cardiff City Ladies playing host to Lewes. [email protected] Copsewood (Coventry) are through to the Third Round after a 2-1 victory against FC Reedswood. Having already beaten two teams from the Midland Combination, Copsewood knew that they could not afford to take their West Midlands League visitors lightly. The game started at a fairly slow pace with both teams getting used to the different surface which the game was being played on but after ten minutes it was the hosts who created the first chance as Abiyola Riley raced through on goal, rounded the keeper but hit her shot just wide of the post. The next chance fell to the visitors and they made it 1-0 as overall poor defending from Copsewood resulted in former player, Becky Knight, being left unmarked ten yards out from goal and she placed the ball past the helpless Nikki Duncan. The goal seemed to rattle the home side, as for the next fifteen minutes they looked shaky all over the pitch but Reedswood were unable to create any other chances during this period. With ten minutes of the half remaining Copsewood finally looked like they wanted to compete and both Sarah Rowles and Kirstie Deacon saw their efforts go over the bar. Everyone associated with Copsewood knew that they had to raise their game in the second half or they would be knocked out of the competition. The second half began with Copsewood on the front foot and they had now upped the tempo and work rate in their play which was forcing Reedswood to sit deeper and have less bodies forward. On 55 minutes, Nicola Foskett was introduced to the match and, having been out of action since early December, she got her comeback off to the perfect start as she latched on to a kick from Duncan in goal and with what was her first touch of the match, she elegantly placed the ball over the Reedswood keeper. The goal came as a major boost to Copsewood and Foskett nearly doubled the lead but was thrawted by an excellent save. On 65 minutes, the home side took the lead as Jodie McGuckin hit a vicious corner into the box and it struck a Reedswood defender and went into her own net. The last twenty minutes of the game saw Copsewood create more chances but they were unable to convert any of these but credit must go to the players as they were able to see out the game without any real scares. All in all manager Ryan Conneely was delighted with the result. Although they were far from their best throughout the game, to turn around a 1-0 deficit showed great character from the Copsewood players and they can now look forward to the Third Round where they will host Larkhall Athletic of the South West Combination.

Mo Marley's England Under-19 team drew 1-1 with Norway on the indoor pitch at St. George's Park. Abbey Joice put the Young Lions ahead after 23 minutes only for Amalie Vevle Eikeland to level matters on 57. Head Coach Marley handed debuts to Sophie Baggaley, Jodie Brett, Grace Rapp, Kirstie Levell and , the latter two having helped the Under-17s finish fourth at last year's European Championship finals. This match against the traditionally strong Scandinavians came at the end of a two-day training camp at the national football centre. A different group of 22 players began training at St. George's Park on Wednesday and they will also take on Norway on Friday morning. Marley said: "This January training camp has been split to observe more players within the Under-19 age group. The squads include new players and players who have transitioned from the recent Under-17 finals. "The intention is to develop as many players as possible due to the demands of both the Under-19 European Championship qualifiers in April, hopefully the finals in the summer and also the Under-20 World Cup in Canada in August." England will face Denmark, Serbia and host nation Finland in April in a round robin style Euro qualifying tournament, with the top placed nation making it to the finals, which are being staged in Norway in July. England Under-19: Sophie Baggaley (sub Kirstie Levell 80mins), Molly Bartrip (sub Leah Williamson 61mins), Rosella Ayane (sub Grace Rapp 71mins), Millie Turner (sub Beth Hepple 86mins), Ellie Stewart, Vyan Sampson, Natasha Flint, Maddy Cusack (sub Jodie Brett 61mins), Abbey Joice (sub Carla Humphrey 61mins), Hannah Dale, Lucy Whipp. Subs not used: Olivia Wild, Demi Lambourne, Beth Merrick, Mille Farrow, Laura Bartup. [email protected] Chelsea are delighted to announce the signing of South Korea international Ji So-Yun ahead of the new FA WSL season. The 22-year-old attacking , who has represented her country 55 times and scored 26 goals having made her debut aged just 15, has agreed a two-year deal with manager Emma Hayes' side. Ji joins the club from Japanese league and cup holders INAC Kobe Leonessa, who defeated Chelsea in the Final of December's International Women's Club Championship (IWCC) in Tokyo. The three-time Korean Footballer of the Year is Hayes' fifth signing this winter, having already added England quartet Rachel Williams, , Gilly Flaherty and to her squad for this year's WSL, which gets underway in April. "What a fantastic signing for the club," said Hayes. "I believe she is one of the best in the world and our fans will love her." "I will get myself in gear to become an integral player for my team and to lead Chelsea to the highest possible levels. "I hope many fans will be greatly interested in our team and my activities. I will always do my best for our club and Chelsea fans." "She has got everything and is a great fit for our team and I've no doubt she will prove a big success in a Chelsea shirt," added the Chelsea Ladies manager.

Kelly Smith, 35, has signed a new contract with Arsenal to continue in her role as player coach. The Arsenal captain was appointed as 's assistant in August 2013, and has excelled in her new coaching role. England's all-time leading goalscorer will continue on the pitch in 2014 too. "Her experience, her passion and her knowledge of the game are all having a really positive impact on the rest of the squad, and helping with the development of the younger girls in particular." Meanwhile the Gunners have swooped to sign Christie Murray from Glasgow City. The 23-year-old Scotland international can play in both midfield and attack. An industrious and creatively minded player, she impressed for Glasgow in the Champions League Round of 16 tie with Arsenal last November. Murray came through the Scottish FA's National Performance Centre and has represented her country at all levels where she worked closely with Arsenal manager Shelley Kerr. Christie Murray began her career at Celtic and played for Scotland in the UEFA Under-19 Championship Finals in 2008, scoring against Sweden. She was amongst the first intake of students at the Scottish FA's Women's National Academy at the and moved on to Glasgow City, although injury hampered her progress at one stage. She made her Scotland debut against New Zealand at the Cyprus Cup in March 2010 and has been capped 21 times in all, scoring once. General Manager Vic Akers said: "Christie's a fantastic player, and we're delighted she's agreed to join us. She's comfortable on the ball, with a great range of passing, she never stops running and working for the team. She has a great attitude, and she'll be a real asset to the squad." [email protected] Keynsham Town 0 Portsmouth 4 A commanding perfomance from Portsmouth took them into the Third Round of the FA Women's Cup and set up a home tie with Lewes after a 4-0 away win over Keynsham Town. Three first half goals put Pompey firmly on the road to victory and a late second goal of the match for Gemma Simmonds put the finishing touches to an excellent team performance. Keynsham had top scorer Leanne Lapham in goal to replace the cup tied Gwyn West, her striking role being filled by the return of and the debuting Rafaela Graciano Silva. Rachel Stowell had the first effort on target, her low shot being well held by Pompey keeper Sadie Blakeley. The opening goal came after Lapham made a fine save when Gemma Hillier played in Charley Wilson. The ball rebounded kindly for Simmonds to finish well from the edge of the area on 12 minutes. Lucy Quinn is challenged by Rachel Stowell. Pompey doubled their lead when Wilson struck the post and Hillier tucked home the rebound on 17 minutes and they were denied another for offside shortly after. Eventually Keynsham started to settle with Silva and Olivera Markovic working hard to spark the attack into life and Stowell seeing more of the ball in midfield. The third goal was crucial though and it went to Portsmouth on 37 minutes. Wilson broke down the right and crossed just over Quinn's head. The ball fell to Sarah Kempson and she curled a shot beyond Lapham from wide on the left. Grant had a golden chance to reduce the arrears before the break but a heavy touch allowed Blakely to gather and Markovic went very close with a shot across goal as the hosts at least finished a disappointing half on the front foot. Quinn nearly added a fourth with a run and powerful shot just wide on the restart but Pompey were grateful for excellent defending from Fiona McMillan to block and clear from the centre of goal after a corner on 54 minutes. Wilson then set up Hillier for a shot inches wide as the Portsmouth attackers thrived on the excellent playing surface of the AJN Stadium. Sub Nadine Bazan produced a perfect left wing cross for the head of Wilson but Lapham saved well on 61 minutes. Keynsham had their own moments with Blakely doing well to deny a close range effort from Markovic but the visitors always looked likely to add to their lead. Wilson, who did everything but score in an all action performance, met a Quinn corner with a twisting header from 12 yards, but was denied by the bar. The goal, when it did arrive, was an absolute 'gem' , Hillier twisting free on the right and cutting the ball back invitingly for Simmonds to lash into the roof of the net on 80 minutes. Keynsham were denied the consolation their efforts deserved when, after a Clark run was halted by a foul, a scramble from the free kick saw Stowell net, only for an offside decision to chalk off the goal. Portsmouth fully deserved to progress with a good team effort, with their defence neutralising Keynsham's attackers whilst Hillier, Quinn, Simmonds and Wilson in particular showed great understanding and movement to stretch the home defence. Keynsham had run Pompey desperately close in their league encounter, only losing to a last minute penalty in an away match but on the day they had little answer to the team. Amazingly, much of the match was played out in bright sunshine on another Sunday of torrential rain, as Keynsham Town once again beat the elements, but this time they were unable to match Pompey's sparkling display. Keynsham Town: Leanne Lapham, Andreea Alexandru, Ellie Carter, Aimee Clark, Abbie Britton, Rachel Stowell, Suzanne Grant, Olivera Markovic, Rachel Cullen, Rafaela Graciano Silva, Katarzyna Rusek. The striker will be no stranger to those at the club having spent the previous two seasons with Watford. She made fifteen appearances for the first team last season before heading off for a spell in America. After her time abroad, Katie can't wait to return: "It was interesting, I enjoyed it and learnt a lot in America but it just wasn't for me," she explained "I'm very pleased to be back, I love it at Watford." The former Arsenal youngster believes the squad has a great chance of success this season: "I think we can do really well. "We've got a very strong squad, from the centre backs all the way through to the strikers." First Team Manager John Salomon is excited to be working with Knell again: "We're really pleased to have Katie back as a Watford Ladies player. "Katie has grown from her experience in America and having worked with her for the past two years, I'm looking forward to seeing her continued progression into first team football."

Last season's top scorer Lauren Allison has returned to Oxford United ahead of the start of the upcoming FA Women's Super League 2 campaign. Lauren scored 50 goals in all competitions last season as United won the South West Combination title, before accepting a place at the University of South Alabama during the summer. She continued her outstanding form in the States, winning the Sun Belt Conference with the South Alabama Jaguars and earning Offensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards. Now back in England, Allison has returned to Oxford and is eagerly anticipating her first taste of WSL football. "I don't really know what to expect," she said. "With the WSL 2, we're just looking to compete and compare ourselves to the best in the nation, so we'll just see how things go. We're just trying to keep up with the top level. "We had a couple of games last year when we played Everton and we played against the likes of Newcastle and Charlton, so we kind of know what level we're aiming to play at. That's the only expectation that I have experience-wise, but other than that it's kind of new to all of us. It's going to be tough this year, there's never going to be an easy game and I think that's what we're preparing for now." Manager Richard Blackmore believes Lauren's return is a big bonus for the club: "It's a really, really positive signing for us. Obviously losing her to America was a bit of a blow at the end of the season but for her to be back and signed for the end of the year is really positive. We're really pleased that the first club she wanted to talk to when she came back was us. "To score 50 goals at any level is really good. She's a natural goalscorer, she's a winner and when she doesn't score goals she's very disappointed, so it'll be really good to have someone like that around the team." [email protected] Glasgow City aredelighted to announce that they have re-signed Northern Ireland international defender Julie Nelson for the upcoming season. The defender first joined the Scottish Champions last summer from Everton and went on to help the team win the Scottish domestic treble as well as reaching the last 16 of the UEFA Women's Champions League. Commenting on securing Nelson on board once more, City Head Coach, Eddie Wolecki Black said: "In football it shows how quickly things can change. I spoke with Julie at the end of the season and it was agreed she would go home and review her options. I had resigned myself to her departure and looked for another centre half to join us as a replacement. However she has had a change of mind and has agreed to stay for the forthcoming season. "I am happy that my search for a second centre half is concluded and we now look well covered again in that area. I look forward to seeing Julie back with the team soon." On coming back to Glasgow City, Julie said: "After spending some time at home in the off-season and assessing my options, I'm delighted to be re-signing for Glasgow City again for the upcoming season. I thoroughly enjoyed my short time with the club last year and look forward to moving back over to Glasgow and helping the team aim for more success domestically in 2014 as well as competing in the Champions League." Meanwhile Glasgow City have announced two very exciting pre-season friendlies against top English Super League sides Everton and Manchester City. The Scottish Champions will take on Everton at home at Petershill Park on Sunday 16th February and will follow that up one week later taking on big spending Manchester City on the 23rd, also at Petershill Park. Everton, who finished third in the first two years of the Super League and fifth last term are expected to be stern opposition for City as the Scots look to blow away the cobwebs of pre-season with their first match of 2013. Seven days later, the mighty Manchester City come to town, having already developed a big reputation in the women's game, despite having yet to kick a ball in the Super League. Immediately licensed by the English FA for Division 1 in the Super League, Manchester City have not disappointed with a number of major signings announced in the close season, including England international stars , , and . Commenting on his side's upcoming pre-season match schedule, City Head Coach Eddie Wolecki Black said: "The pre-season in the SWPL brings many challenges. Therefore it is essential to get top quality opposition to help us get ready for the new season. It is fair to say we have certainly managed to do that. It is vital the players have a run of competitive games that push us to the limit before the international tournament in Cyprus. I hope the supporters will turn out in good numbers to see what promises to be very interesting matches and also take the opportunity to see the clubs new signings." Everton Team Manager Andy Spence added: "We are delighted to be playing Glasgow City as part of our pre-season preparations. To face a team who are regulars in the Champions League will provide us with exactly the type of test we need ahead of the new season and we look forward to the fixture." Tickets are on sale now for both matches, priced £5 adults and £3 kids. A special offer two game package is also available, priced £8 adults, £5 kids. Tickets can be purchased via www.glasgowcityladiesfc.co.uk. Glasgow City 2014 Adult Season Tickets are also valid both matches. Spartans manager Debbi McCulloch has continued to strengthen her side ahead of the coming Scottish Women’s Premier League season. Natasha McMahon and Tracy Donachie have joined from Hutchison Vale to add to the earlier captures of Ciara Barnes and Danni Pagliarulo. Spartans have also made a new appointment off the pitch with former youth coach Lewis Melee joining the backroom team. [email protected] TV funnyman Patrick Monahan has been offered a chance to get his shooting boots back on ahead of his brand new tour - with the high-flying MFC Ladies inviting him to join their training sessions 'whenever he likes.' It is an invitation that Patrick is only too keen to accept - attempting to reclaim the "glory days of flying down the wing for Redcar Juniors all those years ago." Patrick sponsors MFC Ladies winger Kenzie Parkes, and is impressed by the 'great season' the team are enjoying so far. Playing their homes games at Thornaby FC's Teesdale Park, the team are currently flying high in third place in the league, just two points off top spot, and have also just qualified for the third round of the FA Cup against Blackburn Rovers. Patrick, who plays Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt on Saturday 17th May as part of a 43-date national tour said: "I love football, and used to run up and down the wing as fast I could without being tackled. "But just look at what a great season this lot are having! They'd be running rings round me all day long, that's for sure." MFC Ladies Manager Sammie Leigh said: "It's great to have Patrick as one of our fans and sponsors, and we love him to bits too. "We know he fancies himself as a tricky winger, so let's see if he's still got the old magic on the pitch. "He's welcome to join our training sessions anytime he likes, and we're all looking forward to seeing him at the Town Hall in May. "It'll be getting on for the end of our season by then, so let's see if we can't make sure we have something great to celebrate on the night." Already a popular figure on the UK comedy circuit, Patrick wowed millions of TV fans on the way to winning ITV's Show Me The Funny in 2011. Renowned for his great stories and described by comedy critics as a 'huge force of nature,' the loveable Teessider has also charmed crowds as far apart as Adelaide, Abu Dhabi, Barbados, Spain, France, Luxembourg, Germany and bags more besides. Now, he's looking forward to bringing last year's huge Festival hit Cake Charmer to Boro for what he describes as his 'hometown gig.' Patrick said: "The Town Hall was always something to look up to when I was growing up, so playing there is always extra special as far as I'm concerned. "The show went down great in Edinburgh last summer - and there's something for all the family to enjoy. "There'll be cakes, there'll be hugs - just not all at the same time." Swindon came into the game looking for a sixth successive victory which would stretch their lead to eleven points and looked to be on their way when Chyna Collings headed them in front from a Georgia Walters cross on the hour. However, Southampton turned form on its head in the last ten minutes when Lucy Harper equalised and Amber Siley scored the winner which takes the Saints out of the bottom three. Southampton 2 Swindon 1.

The Devon derby tie in the F.A.Women's Cup Second Round has now been called off three times but the wet weather has failed to dampen the players' enthusiasm. Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle will make another attempt to play the game this Sunday at Ivybridge Community College and Exeter midfielder Helen Kukor told Women's Soccer Scene: "I think everyone is more up for the game because it's been called off so many times! "Personally, I can't wait to play. It will be a good game as we are both evenly matched and we have a previous defeat to get them [Plymouth] back for." Marika Ghigla added: "This is an exciting game between two rival teams and after the game being called off for three weeks in a row, we are ready to make this happen." [email protected] Portsmouth swept into the Third Round of the F.A.Women's Cup with an impressive display against Keynsham Town at the AJN Stadium and lined up a South Coast derby tie with Lewes in the next stage. We spoke to Pompey captain Gemma Hillier who was delighted with her team's performance and she also looked ahead to the task of taking on Lewes for the fourth time this season: After two postponements, was it worth the wait in order to turn in a performance like you did against Keynsham? Yes, definitely, we'd been waiting for two or three weeks to play the game and we knew coming up to the ground that we would be playing on a 3G pitch and it would definitely be on. We've been training hard over the last couple of weeks so it was nice to get the game done - and a good win for us as well. The team really looked ready and up for it from the start of the match? They did, as I said we've been training really hard and looking forward to playing again and I thought that every player in the team, even the ones that came off the bench, really put a shift in and we got a good result. You got on the scoresheet in the win, you haven't quite got as many as previous seasons yet but presumably it's always nice to hit the back of the net? I've been playing quite a lot in midfield and out wide this season so it was nice to go back up front where I'm used to playing. It just shows that if you follow up, Perry [Northeast] tells us every week to follow in on the keeper from long shots, against Keynsham it paid off and I'm very happy! Even though she didn't score on the day, Charley Wilson deserves a mention for her performance as she was a constant menace to the Keynsham defence all game? That's right - I think it's been the story of her season she's used to being the top scorer and scoring every game, but this season she's been playing in a different role and her work rate is just phenomenal. If every player could work as hard as she does we'd be flying at the top of the league. Unfortunately it's meant she doesn't score so many but I don't think she appreciates that she creates so many chances for other people and that is just as good as her scoring. You're now at home to Lewes in the next round, a local derby tie, presumably the team will be ready for that one? We've played them three times already this season, they've won twice and we won the other one. Hopefully we'll play as well as last time, scoring quite a few goals and getting through to the next round which is the important thing. Lewes have had the upper hand in terms of results so far this season but this game gives you a chance to get even? In the first two games we didn't play particularly well against them, so we will be looking to replicate the performance in the last one where we beat them. We really feel we can go quite far in this competition so beating Lewes is our next step. And if you can get past Lewes, there is every chance you could come up against a Super League team? We've had a couple of players leave to the Super League and didn't get into it ourselves so maybe we will have a point to prove. If we can get through the Lewes game and meet Super League opposition, we would really like to beat them and prove that point. Toni McHamilton scored the only goal of the game to take the Grimsby-based side beyond the reach of their rivals. North East League Hull City suffered a setback in their Premier Division title challenge as they went down to a 2-0 defeat at home to York City. Lauren Shuttleworth and Jasmine Whitwell both got on the scoresheet to give third placed York a victory which sees them narrow the gap on the top two but keeps Norton & Stockton Ancients five points clear at the top of the table. In the Northern Division, Birtley Town doubled their points tally when holding mid-table Redcar Athletic to a 2-2 draw. Chelsea Easton, from the penalty spot, and Christina Adamson were on target for Birtley with Redcar replying through Tara Ball and Amy Guy. Brighouse Town stepped up their title challenge in the Southern Division by running out 6-2 winners away to Doncaster Belles (Women's). Chloe Roberts, Sonya Sweeney and Rachael White each scored twice for Brighouse who move into second place, six points behind leaders Wetherby Athletic but with three games in hand. North West League All of the scheduled league matches fell victim to the weather on Sunday but two matches did manage to go ahead in the League Plate. Manchester City A made it through to the Third Round with a 2-1 victory over Penrith AFC and in the other game, Stockport County Res won 4-0 away to Woolton thanks to a Jess Battle hat-trick plus a goal from Kath Jones. The league has announced that the League Cup and League Plate has been deferred until Sunday 2 March due to the recent number of postponements. South West League In the solitary match in the league to survive the weather, Weymouth Town moved out of the bottom two of the Premier Division by beating Cleeve West Town 2-1. Georgia Rogers and Claudia Guida netted the goals for Weymouth with the Somerset side replying through Samantha Crew. * All of the matches in the Eastern Region League, London & South East League, Southern Region League and West Midlands League were postponed due to the bad weather.

[email protected] Keynsham Town player, Suzanne Grant may have set the record for the quickest goalscoring return to football after the birth of a child. The Scottish international striker gave birth to her first child, a son named Oscar, on November 29th 2013 and just seven weeks later played her first match for Keynsham Town Ladies, scoring twice in the process. Keynsham Town manager, Barrie Newton, said: "It was quite remarkable for Suzanne to come back so quickly and is a reflection of her fitness and determination to play as soon as possible. "Indeed, Suzanne was all ready to play on 12th January in our postponed Cup game at Portsmouth which would have been just five weeks since her son was born. I have had other players, in a similar situation, take seven months not seven weeks! This may well be a UK record. Suzanne has been training with her home town club, Celtic, but I was truly amazed to see her play ninety minutes. "She was due to be in our First team squad for the FA Cup game at Portsmouth, but that game was postponed due to the weather, so we gave her a start in our Reserve match at home to Cirencester Town. It gave Suzanne some welcome match practice before the rearranged Cup tie at home last Sunday. "To show 'Granti' has not lost her scoring touch, she netted after only three minutes and popped up with the winner with four minutes to go in the 3-2 win." Suzanne continued her return to action by appearing for the first team last Sunday, playing for about an hour in their F.A.Women’s Cup Second Round defeat to Portsmouth.

Enfield Town manager Sam Perrin is relishing the chance for his side to take on Chichester City in the F.A.Women's Cup on Sunday, providing the weather relents after three successive postponements. "For me, it's the first time facing Chichester as a coach and I'm looking forward to it," he told Women's Soccer Scene. "I prepare my team based on how we can go and win a game of football, I don't tend to scout teams, so I will do my best to do this again in the FA Cup. The girls have got a massive spirit and everyone at the club is excited to get this game played. "Winning and making the Third Round would be a massive achievement. The winners of the game on Sunday will face Durham WFC of the WSL2 and not only is that a great away trip to attend, it's a chance for the girls to pip themselves up against some of the best players. "With this weather, we’ve managed to train on 3G and even play an internal game. We had a friendly in preparation for the visit of Chichester, this will help us with our game plan and hopefully be a step to success on Sunday. If anyone from Chichester is reading this article, I hope to see you Sunday when we can finally get this game played after three weeks of postponements!" [email protected] The newly formed Manchester City Women's Football Club (MCWFC) was re-launched on Friday at a pre-season event at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester. The unveiling was attended by former players and staff of the women's club, Manchester City FC's manager Manuel Pellegrini and the Head Coach of Elite Development Squad, . Formerly known as Manchester City Ladies FC, the club was founded in 1988 by City in the Community. In the 25 years since then, their affiliation with the men's team has taken various forms, culminating in the statement of a formal partnership with Manchester City in August 2012. The Club was later granted entry to the FA Women's Super League in April 2013. Manchester City Women's Football Club, which will mirror and benefit from its association with its male equivalent, will be structured in all aspects of its operations to take advantage of the resources of the wider organisation - from community programmes, to youth development, scouting, coaching, sports science, digital coverage and first team football operations. Whilst the event was a celebration of the newly launched team, it was also an opportunity to mark and acknowledge the history of and commitment to women's football at Manchester City with the reunion of the inaugural women's team from 1988. Speaking of the re-launched Club, Gavin Makel, Head of Women's Football said: "Today is a historic day for women's football in Manchester and I am both privileged and delighted to be able to play a part in the future of Manchester City Women's Football Club. We are building a terrific team both on and off the field, blending existing talent with exciting new arrivals and this, together with the incredible support and access to resources of the wider organisation, makes this opportunity so compelling. " The team will play its first season at the Regional Athletics Arena, after which they will move to the 7,000 seat stadium at City Football Academy for the 2015 season. In addition to the re-launch of the women's team, the club also announced their girls community coaching programmes, demonstrating a long term commitment to the women's and girls' game. The FA and Sport England are joining forces with the Premier League and Football League to provide new grassroots women's and girls' football sessions for 14-25 year olds with professional clubs across the country through the new 'FA Women and Girls' programme. Jill Scott, MCWFC midfielder, will be employed by City in the Community to deliver women's and girls' football sessions. The FA's General Secretary, Alex Horne, said of the announcement: "Manchester City and other professional clubs' brands will attract more players and we know that qualified coaches will deliver top class coaching sessions just where we need them. It's also a further step for us to try and deliver on the objectives we have set our ourselves over the next five years in delivering the 'Game Changer' strategy." Steph Houghton, MCWFC captain, added: "It's a wonderful feeling to be part of a new era in women's football at Manchester City. Today's event has been a great example of City's commitment to the game and it was a pleasure meeting the original team; hopefully we'll do them proud." Now showing on our TV Channel - interviews from the launch at the Etihad Stadium with City players Betsy Hassett, Kim Turner, Jill Scott and Toni Duggan!

[email protected] Michelle Hinnigan has been named the new Everton captain ahead of the 2014 Women's Super League season. Hinnigan is no stranger to the armband, having captained England Under-19s to European Championship success in July 2009, while last year, she led Team GB to the gold medal in the World Student Games in Kazan. Having come through the ranks, manager Andy Spence believes Hinnigan to be the ideal choice to lead the Blues this year. "There are a number of qualities that Michelle possesses and will develop that I see in a captain and certainly a captain of our football club," he said. "First of all, she is someone who has got the respect of her fellow team mates. She is a player who has been with us for a number of years, who has come through our Academy system, and for me it is a fantastic opportunity for Michelle to take that added responsibility which comes from being captain. "Naturally the players, from within our group and outside, will expect the captain of a team to deliver consistent and big performances. "But I think Michelle is at that stage of her career now where she is ready to kick on into that phase of becoming one of the top midfielders in the country and in my eyes she has all the qualities to do that. "Having that added responsibility as captain will just aid her development." Hinnigan herself is proud to have been chosen, adding: "I was delighted to be asked to become captain and accepted straight away. It's a big responsibility but I can't wait for the challenge of leading Everton Ladies next season. "I think Andy's choice was swayed by me having come through the ranks at Everton. He explained that he would love for me to symbolise that progression as captain of the club and that I was his first choice so that was a great thing to hear and I was delighted to accept. "My aim now is to hopefully lead this team to some silverware in the upcoming Women's Super League season."

There are now 20 girls attending training every Saturday morning, with ages ranging from 6 to 13. Thanks to Halesworth Day Nursery (and an anonymous donation) the girls now have new sponsored training/match day hoodies. The girls recently attended a 4v4 tournament in Bury St Edmunds, organised by Suffolk FA, and had teams represented at Under-8, Under-11, Under-12 and two Under-13s joined with other teams to get involved in competitive games. Three of the older Halesworth girls took on the role of coaches for the tournament as part of their football development and did a fantastic job. Earlier in the year the Under-10s won the sporting award at a tournament in Ipswich. The prize was a match ball, first aid kit and tickets for the team to watch Ipswich Town FC. The girls attended the game against Leicester City on November 23rd. Training sessions are on Saturday mornings in Halesworth from 9.30am-10.30am.
