[email protected] Leeds United players Molly Cawthorn and Hannah Fox were at Farnley Academy on Wednesday 29th January as they attended the Leeds United Foundations Premier League 4 Sport Girls session at the school. One of 12 satellite centres established in the programme, the centre at Farnley Academy on Chapel Lane in Leeds is jointly run by the school and representatives from Wortley Juniors FC. Cawthorn and Fox are both graduates of the Leeds Girls Centre of Excellence, having been with Leeds since the age of 10 and are both keen to support the programme which targets girls aged 13+ and aims to provide a minimum of 180 female players of all abilities with both the opportunity to learn and develop their skills and with a recognised pathway into open age football. Hannah commented: "It's a genuine pleasure for Molly and I to be here today to show our support for the Leeds United Foundations Premier League 4 Sport programme. Having been involved in girls football since an early age I've seen how difficult it can be to attract and keep players, particularly once they reach their early teens so it's great to see programme's like this one encouraging more girls to play the game." After joining the girls on the pitch to go through their paces, the Leeds pair then finished the session with a short question and answer segment in which they fielded questions about everything from what it feels like to play for Leeds to injuries. John Forrest, Assistant Leader of P.E. at Farnley Academy heads up the sessions for the school. He said: "I've historically been frustrated by the lack of opportunities for our girls to get involved with football so it's great to see the Leeds United Foundation offering a programme like this that will allow those who want to play a chance to do so. Numbers for the sessions have been steadily growing and hopefully will continue to do so." Year 7 students Olivia and Shannon were two of the girls taking part in the session and were quick to express how much they enjoy being involved. Olivia said, "I love everything to do with football but haven't had much chance to play before so it's a lot of fun to get the chance. It's also great to meet Molly and Hannah from Leeds today, they're both amazing players." Shannon added: "I love being a part of the sessions every week and am thinking about going down to Wortley to join the team there." Asked where she'd like to play if she did join the team at Wortley, Shannon replied: "Striker, definitely as a striker. There's nothing better than when you score!" Shannon's situation is exactly what the jointly run sessions at the Farnley Academy are all about with the hope being that those involved at the school will come along to the sessions, enjoy themselves and eventually decide they'd like to try playing for Wortley in one of their junior teams. Robert Greaves, Ladies and Girls Secretary from Wortley Juniors commented: "Like most junior clubs, girl's football at Wortley is underrepresented. We are actively trying to redress the balance and we feel sure that our connection with Leeds United will have a significant impact on our efforts in this respect. Our ambition for next season is to start two new teams and with the support of the Farnley Academy and Leeds United I am sure we will reach this target." [email protected] Plymouth Argyle earned themselves a home tie with Brighton & Hove Albion after beating Exeter City 6-1 in their local derby F.A.Women's Cup Second Round tie. After three postponements due to the weather, the tie finally got under way at Ivybridge Community College on a 3G pitch. Argyle drew first blood in only the third minute when Becca Rose blasted home from the penalty spot after Emily Mousley was brought down in the box by Exeter's keeper Vicky Wright. Five minutes later and the visitors were rocked by a second Argyle goal, this time Emily Mousley finishing with a firm shot. On 16 minutes it was 3-0 and again it was Mousley finishing a neat move down the right taking a pass from Ellie Dorey in her stride and clipping the ball over the keeper from the edge of the box. Argyle started the 2nd half somewhat sluggishly and allowed Exeter to come more into the game, that eventually led to the visitors grabbing a goal back in the 52nd minute. Exeter's left back Marika Ghiglia made her way into the area before producing a shot that found the far corner of the net past the diving Michaela Phillips. When Argyle got it together once more they were aided by a mix up in the Exeter defence and Mousley completed her hat-trick, smashing the ball into the net from two yards. The fifth goal came courtesy of a Katie Middleton free kick from 25 yards, guiding the ball into the far top corner. Two minutes from time Ellie Dorey got the last touch from close in to round off the scoring. Sheffield FC meanwhile produced a powerful display to beat Liverpool Feds 10-0. The Premier League side inflicted the majority of the damage on their Northern Combination opponents in the first half, Carla Ward's eighth minute penalty giving them the lead with Jodie Michalska adding the second. Becky Lee, Issy Hayes and Ward put them further ahead before Ellie Gilliatt and Lisa Giampalma also found the net and Ward completed her hat-trick with the eighth goal, on the stroke of half time. Giampalma netted her second nine minutes into the second half but Feds battled hard after the break and only conceded one more time, Michalska scoring the final goal in injury time. Sheffield are now away to Charlton Athletic in the Third Round. Chichester City completed a trio of big wins on the day by beating Enfield Town 6-0 to secure a trip to Durham WFC. Kally Ambler and Hollie Wride each scored twice with Lauren Cheshire and Abbey Shrubb adding the others (see match report). Plymouth Argyle manager Kev Rose is relishing the chance to take on Brighton & Hove Albion in the F.A.Women's Cup this week. Argyle earned their chance against the Premier League outfit with a 6-1 victory over Exeter City and Kev told Women's Soccer Scene: "Our squad is now made up of young enthusiastic players who have progressed through the Devon FA Centre of Excellence, with many of them still at Plymouth Argyle Ladies/Ivybridge Community College academy. "This will be a great test for us as a club and the players as individuals to see how much we have developed over the past two seasons. Our ethos at the club is now one of progression as a club and development as individuals. Training has gone well this week after Sunday's win over Exeter City. "We had a classroom session on Monday and watched Brighton play, and we have had feedback on their squad, one of whom used to play for us. "We are expecting a very tough test from a Premier League team. Having said that, we feel ready to take on that challenge at this stage of the season. All our players know they will need to be at their best on Sunday, if they are then anything can happen, this is the FA Cup isn't it !" Argyle captain Katie Middleton added: "I know that all of the girls are looking forward to the next round of the FA Cup as it would be great to progress as far as possible but more importantly, it will be a good opportunity to test ourselves against a team in the league above us. "We didn't do ourselves justice when we played in that league a few seasons ago and it will be good to show everyone how we have developed as a team with new players coming through and improving all the time. It would also be great to get through to the Fourth round as that's when the WSL teams enter the competition."
