The Whitlams: Eternal Nightcap with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra

By popular demand, return to Brisbane to reprise their Queensland Symphony Orchestra collaboration, playing in the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC)’s Concert Hall on Friday 21 January 2011.

This time, to mark thirteen years since the release of their classic breakthrough album Eternal Nightcap, The Whitlams and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra will perform all the songs from Eternal Nightcap and their greatest hits, promising to delight audiences of all ages.

A corner-stone of music scene, the Whitlams are certainly no strangers to touring, however, their orchestral gigs are a rare event, not-to-be-missed. The ARIA award-winners are well-known and loved for their “charming cynicism” and last toured with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2007, when they blew both orchestral and mainstream audiences away.

The Whitlams formed in the early nineties, playing hundreds of gigs between and Byron, thanks to their trusty Kingswood Station Wagon, which they believe paved their way to becoming a “real band”. In 1993 they released their first album Introducing The Whitlams.

It wasn’t until 2004 that lead singer and pianist began collaborating with classical musicians, leading to concerts with most of Australia’s state orchestras and creating an increased depth to The Whitlams experience.

Quadruple platinum, ARIA breakthrough album, Eternal Nightcap, celebrates its 13th anniversary with the band and orchestra playing it from start to finish, featuring all of their best-selling hits from to Charlie No. 2 and You Sound Like Louis Burdett.

Freedman says “The idea for the show [playing Eternal Nightcap in its entirety] was to serve as an interesting act of nostalgia … the fans enjoy it because, for once, they know what they’re going to get. You normally turn up with a leap of faith and hope they don’t play the one you haven’t heard.”

The current line-up has remained unchanged for the last seven years and four albums, and consists of Tim Freedman (piano and vocals), Jak Housden (guitar), Warwick Hornby (bass guitar) and Terepai Richmond (drums). Don’t miss The Whitlams. Tickets on sale now at www.qpac.com.au or phone 136246.
