Perhaps unsurprisingly, the interview focused on Hefner's indulgent and apparently idyllic lifestyle, with little mention made of the appalling practices used by Hefner to obtain his enormous wealth. Equally, there was no criticism of the underlying Playboy philosophy or 'dream' (as Liz Hayes termed It) in which women's role appears to be as pleasant ( and non-threatening) sexual objects to be obtained in abundance along with cars and money. It is as if we are the perfect accessory to a new business suit or BMW! Unfortunately, not challenging Hefner on this and other matters relating to the Playboy franchise, succeeds only to perpetuate his polished media image and promote his false 'dream' to a new generation of (potential) Playboy buyers. After having heard a number of male acquaintances mention that they would like to follow in Hefner's footsteps after watching the Interview, I decided to write a letter to Liz Hayes •:s^^. emphasising some of the 'not-so-sexy' aspects of Playboy. The Casanovas are one of Australia's finest exponents of classic riff based rock, and today they showed everyone how it was done. Despite some poxy stage moves on singer/guitarist Tommy Boyce's behalf, they blazed through a 40 minute set packed with big guitar hooks, solos and ace vocal lines. The big (and somewhat surprising) highlight of the festival for many were the excellent Goldfrapp. Alison Goldfrapp has one of the most incredible voices ever, so when you pair that with a super-tight band playing wicked tunes of lust... the result is breathtaking. Fat keyboards, beautiful violins and Alison, with her sultry voice, sexy 'naughty stewardess' outfit and perfect stage moves. What a perfect way to finish the day.

The Sunday brings with it sunshine and promise. The Fergusons are up first and disappoint. They have their moments, especially when they bust out the harmonies, but overall the songs are bland and go nowhere.Up next, dished up a good serving of dirty garage blues. You can say whatever you like about Frenzal Rhomb's music, but there's no doubting that they're a highly entertaining live act. They ran through a collection of the best tunes off both albums, but highlights were 'Ploitik' 'Trouble' and 'Don't Panic'. Chris Martin chamied the crowd with self-effacing banter and humor even when he stuffed up a song. Predictably 'Yellow' was the biggest crowd pleaser | and things were brought to close with a cover of Louie Armstrong's '' which was both fitting and poignant. |

Local act Brindle is working on a new album and about to begin touring. Linda Edwards spoke to lead vocalist Deb Suckling. The general vibe from the Brindle camp is that there's a whole lot more to come. With a few gigs in Brisvegas to give the locals their fix, the band is also hoping to start recording by August, and have a debut album out by the end of the year.

As with most local bands doing it Indie ("it's shitful"), brindle is working on getting the money together to do a good job of their debut album. Lead vocalist Deb Suckling said they actually broke even on their last tour, probably thanks to Deb's $60 win on the pokies. As well as nearfy making money with their music, Brindle has been getting some recognition for their three years together as a band with their invitation to this year's .

"It's a real buzz to realise you're getting somewhere," Deb said.

The band's music- which even the band themselves have trouble categorising - will be quite dark on the new album. Deb says brindle doesn't fit into the chick band category, and that they're not scared of trying different styles.

We're not driven to sound like anybody else. There aren't a lot of people doing what we do, there aren't a lot of female leads." According to Deb, we can definitely expect to see brindle sticking around for a few more years.
