Ice Skating Room 4 and 5 We played a game called Kī-o-rahi.. The game is about throwing a ball around. Two teams play a role. Here are the rules: The X’s are poles . The ball needs to touch the poles They get points. Then you have to touch the middle of the playing ground to score a point. It’s red vs black.

M3/4 Checking for speeding cars on Mackenzie Otago University and Polytechnic Visit drive -physics lesson.. It was an early 6.00am start for students on 10 August to get to Dunedin in time for the first session of the Otago Tertiary Day. For several years, the University and the Polytechnic have joined for a two-day event for students, caregivers and career advisors to visit the campus of both providers. It is normally held in April or May however due to Covid it was delayed. The students plan their day online beforehand by searching sessions and creating their own personalised schedule in the Open Day app; no more printing out maps and info! Some of the sessions they attended were an introduction lecture on neuroscience, nursing, health science first year, medicine and surgery, and physics. Some departments provided tours of their facilities letting the students see first-hand the type of experiments they were involved in. T​ hey also took the opportunity of visiting various residential colleges which is always of interest to first year students. Not all students that went on this trip, intend LOST PROPERTY to go to University or Polytechnic next year; some choosing instead to take a gap year and work to help fund their future study and also to have a bit more life experience with ​people and culture in our community. After the traditional stop at a fast food outlet in Oamaru, it was back on the road again and into a dark Twizel at 7.15pm. ICE HOCKEY SUCCESS

The Mackenzie Combined Ice Hockey team, coached by Lain Hellmrich of Fairlie, are a combined team of senior students from Twizel Area School, Mackenzie College and Boys High School. This team practices 3 nights a week at the Tekapo Springs ice rink. North Otago On Monday 31​st​ August they started their campaign at the South Island Secondary VS Schools Championships beating Burnside Otago Country High School 14-0 in their first game and 5 September 2020 2 PM winning 2-0 over St Andrew’s College. On Tuesday they defeated Kings High School 3-1 and Dunstan High School 9-0 On Wednesday 2n​ d ​ September the Mackenzie Kids Skills Session Combined team made it through to the 9am-10am with North Otago players South Island Secondary Schools final, They played Wakatipu High, who had also won all their games. Due to Covid the teams played with no spectators, so many parents and supporters were at the end of a group chat, receiving updates from Simon the team manager. It was intense, waiting for the ping of a new alert. A goal with 5 minutes left to play and a score of 1-0 meant Mackenzie Combined Ice Hockey team became the South Island Champions!! “Very proud of this group of young adults. Great team, great company to be around. Humble, respectful and strong individuals. No egos, No dramas. As parents you should all be very proud” said Lain Hellmrich.
