NEW TRENDS EN EL MUNDO

La cuarta edición del New Trends of Architecture comenzó en Patras, Grecia, Capital europea de la Cultura 2006, en Junio de ese mismo año. La inauguración fue el día 2 de Junio del 2006.

New Trends of Architecture fue fundada en el 2001 por un grupo de consejeros japoneses de la cultura y los medios de comunicación, de quince estados miembros de la Unión Europea, Instituciones Culturales europeas y de la Delegación de la Comisión Europea en Japón. El objetivo es crear una plataforma que constituya una oportunidad para compartir ideas y experiencias entre Europa y Asia Pacífico, a través de exposiciones anuales y simposiums para arquitectos emergentes europeos, japoneses y de otros países del Pacífico que tendrán lugar en Japón y otras capitales europeas.

El proyecto fue reconocido no solo por el mundo de la arquitectura sino también por el mundo diplomático. El antiguo director de la comisión europea, Romano Prodi y, el primer ministro de Japón, Junichiro Koizumi, mencionaron este proyecto especialmente como un programa de intercambio importante durante la cumbre euro japonesa en Julio 2002.

En el año 2004, coincidiendo con la ampliación de la Unión Europea, la tercera edición de New Trends of Architecture fue presentada como una nueva iniciativa: un proyecto para las regiones de Europa y el Pacífico asiático. La exposición, acompañada de un simposium, fue organizada en Lille, Hong-Kong, Tokio, Cork, Melbourne y Anyang. En cada ciudad resultó ser una fuente de encuentros e intercambios enriquecedores.

El concepto básico de este proyecto fue inspirado por la idea europea de la Capital Europea de la Cultura. Europa, respeta su diversidad cultural en términos políticos y económicos, valorando las culturas regionales al mismo tiempo que unificando el continente política y económicamente.

Intenta construir redes no entre países sino directamente conectando ciudades entre sí y con el mundo.

Aprendiendo de la experiencia europea, deseamos expandir nuestro proyecto de New Trends of Architecture de su formato original EU-Japón y que incluya el resto de Asia y de la zona del Pacífico también.

Para la cuarta edición Winy Maas (MVRDV) y Riken Yamamoto actúan como comisarios para seleccionar a los arquitectos europeos y del Pacífico asiático. 2

Tras su paso por Barcelona, está previsto que viaje a Luxemburgo (Capital Cultural Europea 2007), después de estar en Tokio, Melbourne, Perth y otras ciudades asiáticas. Este proyecto internacional se ha convertido en una fructuosa colaboración y en una plataforma dinámica de conexión entre Europa y Asia-Pacífico a través del arte y de la arquitectura..
